What is thy religion, and what doth hast know about God?

translated: What is your religion and what do you know about God?

My religion is practiced theoretical religion, extreme agnosticism.

I know few things about god other that in my opinion higher beings exist, and that GOD is a man made word. I dont believe they or It is white. I believe they could be any color if any color at all. But I feel it a common misconception that god is white.

Another thing a lot of people refer to God as as a He. I mean, perhaps but maybe not.

What else do you know what ggod, and whats your religion.

Me? I'm an atheist. Simple as that. Or perhaps not, seeing as how Buddhists are atheists too. I'm an atheist who subscribes to philosophical materialism.

I don't know what I am.  I guess I just choose not to label myself with anything in particular.

I was raised to be Christian but then I discovered the real world.  Had too many questions and found that "faith" and "just believing in it" wasn't good enough for me.

I guess If I need a label it would be atheist but I'm not really sure if that's acurate either.

Theism.

Strange huh.. You know I've met a lot of atheists and agnostics from threads like these.  Yet one is to say they have a religion so far.

I believe in the society. So I guess you'd call me a humanitarian socialist. My core philosophy is fate. Everything is destined to be from the creation of the universe, and if its meant to be, it will happen, regardless of circumstances. I also believe that causality can by influenced by attitude, that subconcious adjustments of a positive additude yeild a better grade of result, be it a writing or a situation.

I prefer to tread on the thin line between being an agnostic and being a theist. I believe that there Gods and Goddesses but many of them are worshiped by crackpots.

The one who can does, the one who can't teaches

Since I've started to have religion in school I have learned about Islam and Christianity - And they are filled with mistakes and flaws, so if I ever believed in god, I don't do anymore. The bible is filled with mistaked, there are two creations of the world :S that doesn't match... :S And just nothing adds up...

I have become critic.

off topic:

It was 3 days before when I met this girl whose name I don't remember. She was all "there's nothing to do" but I knew what she meant except I was like 14 at the time and a virgin so long story short she didn't call me and 3 days later I'm on a little alcohol (not much out of the ordinary) and I'm devouring a TV dinner making the corn, potatoes, and some kind of meat look like a Mexican dish yet it was bland.. then BAM

Something hit me mentally, spiritually All at once this wierd feeling came over me and I suddenly knew she was not going to call. In the next room at the same time there is the song playing Eraser and about 30 seconds into it there is a distinct horn, hum, or something.. It was calling me into the room.

So I went.

The sounds were more beautiful than anything I've ever dreamed of. Each distinct sound did something to my body in different ways, Circulatory system was the one that stood out the best, coming from the piano. And I had this feeling to put the song on repeat, and that I was to undergo 3 phases which would in turn rid me of my soul, and grant me powers.

The powers I asked for were to be a demi god. A person on earth who can sing! Dance! Politics! Movies! Write all kinds of ideas! etc.

That is what happened. And there were 3 phases. 1 I was supposed to mentally disrespect my dead grandfather. 2 I was to hurt this other girls feelings and 3 I was supposed to blasphemiez god (Which turns out to be the unforgivable sin in the bible)

Then this is what actually resulted from all of this.

I went through solid years questioning reality, coming up with trippy answers even when stone cold sober. This involves the type of philosohpical questioning the greatest minds have conjured that no one else even cares about these days. I went through periods of time where I could write awesome music. I come up with crazy ideas that someone like Trent or especially the bill gates , Donald trump type could lift off the ground with flying colors.. But alas I have no influence in the government (wasn't born to the Harvard family), I have no money but what I spend on small things. And I have a desk full of music about positive things and negative things that will never get published. I prayed for POWER that day, not potential!

Does anyone know which way is up in the universe?
Is south, north, east and west a spiral or does it point into outter space? (They are spirals)
How much does the earth weigh?
Do scientists have proof these bones are millions of years old? Are they just guessing by theoretical operation results? Have they conducted a 30 million year old test, is what I'm trying to ask...
Why when we close our eyes do we sense our thoughts to be coming from our brain, and not our lower areas like feet? We sense it from our heads.

This is the type of thing I thought about for over 10 years now and no one else I've ever met gave 2 thoughts about most things that are deep in my mind.

So did you disrespect your grandfather, blaspheme on God and hurt the girl?

I'm... unsure about what I am. I think it's called "agnostic theist", I'm not sure what the higher power exactly is but I'm almost certain that there is something. I've had some, eh, experience about it, and the idea that there's absolutely nothing except us in the universe and that all of this is a coincidence just seems quite distant to me. Besides, I'm rather respectful of the tradition, and I was born to an Orthodox Christian family, so in a way that might make me an Orthodox Christian too. I respect mostly all of the religions in the world, though. I believe they contain ideas and philosophy everyone has much to learn from. And I don't think that only one religion is right. All of them can be right and wrong at the same time.
All in all, if I were to choose one religion, I'd say Orthodox Christianity is the closest to me, but I'm still one foot at the agnostic side. Of course, I think the most important thing is for people to find their idea themselves. And I'm also a great supporter of the "knock and you'll be answered" idea, you can't find the divine if you do not want to find it.

PS I believe in science, too. And I'm extremely against the opinion that science and faith are opposed to each other.

Christian, Protestant, fan of science, and a very realistic person -> me.

Weird combo? Maybe. I am well aware of the "mistakes" in Bible, but never cared for them too much, it's an old book written for ancient people, with additions of later ages that made up lots of contradictions.

Well, the deism bit comes from my ponderings about "if there was a God the Creator*, what would he/she/it/they be like?"

I decided that a God the Creator couldn't possibly exist within the world because physical laws fail to accomodate an omniscient and omnipotent being. Therefore our God the Creator must exist outside of our world. But the problem here is that physical laws also seem incompatible with external influences. Therefore the God would have to be unable to manipulate our world once it is up and running. Much like a programmer, God can manipulate the inner workings as well as the initial setup in any possibly conceivable way. The omniscience is merely the ability to test the consequences of choosing any version of world();.

This means that what we see now is either:

a) God's desired effect (or close enough to not bother with further tweaks).
b) One of the many test runs and thus could end at any moment at all for no apparent reason.

An omniscient and omnipotent creator would probably be a bit above our human perception of "let's try it and if it doesn't work, we'll delete it, fix some bugs and try again" programming, don't you think? Surely God would be able to create the desired effect in one try... If he created us, he created us as his children, not an experiment. Someone omnipotent and omniscient wouldn't need to create experiments. He, however, would want to spread the essence of being and life, to weave creation, and, as a pinnacle of his work, to create others who would create too. Because a true creator would find himself constantly filling the never-ending, pointless emptiness with existence, energy, matter, life and purpose, and it is certainly wonderful to know that there are other beings who create and weave in their own right, his children in a cycle of harmony and life.

Uhm... sorry. Got a bit carried away there.

Anyway, in my opinion, if God created the world seemingly imperfect and chaotic as it is, it is from the desire to make us learn and reach perfection ourselves, through our own mistakes and experiences. Because if he (she/they/it/understand it as you want) granted us perfection on a plate, what would be the point? We need to deserve it if it is to mean anything. We need to find it ourselves. That's the point of freedom. And we need to be free, else we wouldn't be able to freely create, which is what a perfect creator's plan would be.

That's one theory at least.
