War for Wisdom - OOC

"With Philosopher-King Thales gone, some had hoped that the kingdom would remain at peace, but that was not to be. Within a year of his death, his vassals were engaged in conflict and intrigue, aided by the Royal Philosophers, whose powers could easily turn the tide of a battle. The philosophical debates left the ivory tower and clashed in the battlefield." - The Record of the Kingdom.

The Kingdom of Miletus had experienced a long period of peace under the long reign of Philosopher-King Thales. The Royal School of Philosophy was founded, and trained many youngsters in the science of Philosophy. Many of these young people then became retainers of some member of the nobility, or wandering warriors. Many a noble sent his child to the School, to learn the way, and by the end of the peace, a significant portion of the aristocracy were Royal Philosopher-certified.

Then, one day, Philosopher-King Thales disappeared. No one knew where he went. He left no heir, and the regent soon fell victim to court intrigue. Then the Philosophers' war began - every faction tried to achieve hegemony.

Now pick up your weapon and strengthen your mind! The story begins.

[I've been thinking that our characters should have the typical "magic powers" (but not very powerful) in addition to our Philosophical Powers.)

So I'm thinking about participating and I want a democritean character, but I have no idea what such a character's powers could be. I do, however, have a general feel for the spirit of his discussions with the resident epicurean.

Also, something thematically similar to what we're going for:

Dungeons and Discourse
Advanced Dungeons and Discourse

Sex: male
Philosophical title (e.g. Socratic, Zenoite, etc.), if any: Democritean

Alignment (optional): how can a determinist-atomist be anything other than lawful neutral?

Wasn't Democritus the first person to come up with the idea of an atom? What if he can just make things go BOOM?

Balanced? or shall I make a neo-platonic character?

That would be Leukippos. Democritus credited all of his works to Leukippos, which caused confusion similar to the problem of separating Socrates's views from Plato's (Socrates left no written works, while in all of his dialogues, Plato speaks through Socrates).

Also, the whole "atomic boom" idea is based on splitting the atom, and Democritus's atoms were by definition indivisible.

Simply by separating the true indivisible parts from eachother then? BOOM!

Democritus's brand of atomism (as opposed to the epicurean one) was the first strictly deterministic description of the world. Given this, I could go with some sort of ability to reduce randomness to certainty. Perhaps this could be expressed by giving my character an intrinsic awareness of whether or not any given course of action will end in success or failure. Hilarious in gambling.

This power should be rather limited in scope, or else it'd be overpowered.

Also, someone needs to play a noble (you can still be a Philosopher, but you'll also have a small Redshirt Army to command).

Should I limit it to one person or only allow him to watch several seconds into the future, (like Bismarck )

And, hell, I'd love to be a nobleman!

Yeah, having it work like Bismark's sounds pretty fair.

Edit: Is it just me, or does this look like One Piece meets Fullmetal Alchemist in medieval Europe?
