Voyage of the INTOLERANCE...

>This is a Narrative role-play.  This means if you participate you need to write your story in a narrative style, first person or third person, but not in direct response.  If you are unfamiliar with the style, take a look at the Saga role-play, (there are about five different threads).  Please feel free to join as any character but if you decide to play do not make any superheroes, or all-powerful types, just like in any good game or quest you start out with very little skill and equipment.  I will be playing a lot of non player characters NPC to get the story moving, feel free to have a main or player character PC and some NPCs of you own.  When you add a post try to relate it to the previous post if you are in the same area as the action of the last post.  One main rule is you cannot kill someone else’s PCs or NPCs without permission.  If there are any unrelated posts I will ask a Mod (probably Lith) to remove them from the thread, if you have a question or Out of Character (ooc) talk there will be a separate thread for it.<

Julius Pierpont Patches had two distinctions in the Royal Navy, he was the youngest man to attain the rank of Captain, and he is currently the oldest man to still retain the rank of an active Captain.  JP was a midshipman when he was twelve, passed his Lieutenant exams at sixteen and through a stroke of good / bad fortune became a Captain at seventeen.  His exploits on that voyage have become Navy myth but he did in fact become the sole surviving officer, and brought back the Black ship full of gold and three prize frigates.  This legendary voyage was enough to have the Admiralty confirm his bevret rank of Captain and guaranteed him a ship for as long as he wanted to sail.  But no one realized how long he wanted to sail, years turned into decades and the old man continued to Captain a ship, often refusing a promotion to admiral and a desk at the homeport.

It is pure justice that the oldman would go out in a blaze of glory.   The Lord Admiral’s ship was be raked by fire from the Emperor’s fleet.  The Royal Navy was in a tight spot when the Southern Queen forsook her neutrality and ambushed the fleet while they were engaged with the Emperor.  But the Lord Admiral’s superb tactics changed defeat into victory, but it seemed that the cost was going to be the Lord Admiral himself.  JP was not going to let this happen, not only was he immensely loyal to the Lord Admiral, he had also had him serve on his ship as a midshipman when he was younger.  So the eternal Captain brought his ship about and intervened and took the punishment meant for the Flag.

This should have been the end for Patches and his crew, ship burning, men screaming, the INTOLERANCE and her 64 guns were finally going to the bottom.  The ship began a death spiral and the oldman made his peace with his maker and prepared to have a great journey in the afterlife…

Captain Patches awoke. That in and of itself was remarkable, but it happened.  He assumed that he was in for judgment but everything seemed wrong.  Dead members of his crew surrounded him.  His ship was beached on a strange and very exotic shore.  If he was in an afterlife how come there were so many dead?  He could see other crewmen scattered across the beach, even some of the Southern Queen’s men and Imperial Sailors.  But the oldman was never one to hesitate, he yelled to a young sailor.  “Find the First Mate and any Officers, I need them now!”  To a marine he ordered, “Find your Colonel and get an armed party to capture those men,” pointing at the enemy sailors, “and put a detail together to bury our dead.  Full Honors!” at least as much as we can muster he thought.  His ship was beached but there seemed to be plenty of wood up the beach, and enough of his men survived to put her back to sea, hell even those foreign sailors will be a big help once they are pressed into the crew.  The INTOLERANCE will sail again…

'as the sun sets over the scorched landscape"

...a man kneels and takes a handful of ash in his pale hand, as the wind carries it away, his expressionless eyes look at the horizon and he tries to remember what lead him there ...it was decades ago when the demons first joined the armies of the undead ...or was it even sooner? ...he recalls having a night out with a few friends and a couple of girls who hoped to get something extra ...he can still hear the smooth voice in his head that prompted him to leave them and walk alone in the dark alleys ...he feels the fangs sink in his skin and he feels dying ...years later, he recalls being completely lost in the darkness of his new lifestyle ...seducing young women to drink their blood tricking young nobles into losing everything, including their lives, to a game of chance ...a few centuries and countless dead bodies later, he was recruited by a newly turned death night

...the necromancer remembers and what he sees isn't very pleasing ...joining the army of death sure provided him with the thrill and the blood needed to survive, but good things never last ...the reckoning came and everything change ...luckily for him, his superiors, perished in the blast, so he became the leader of a small army of vampires, ghosts and zombies ...that was when the man in the cloak came

Lights and music seem to surround the usually boring town
-This has got to be the best annual summerfest ever!

A young woman in the company of ome of her dear friends attends the big fest. This year it's extra festive ,for the emperor had won a great battle at sea. A feeling of pride and joy could almost be felt in the otherwise so cool Great Hall.
This was her day, Malta's day.
The day her family would present her as a young woman, instead of a child like the former years. It meant that she had reached the age of independence and she would be allowed to inally go look for a suitable husband.
She grinned at the thought of the pursuit, but ofcource she would remain her honorable self..to the outside world atleast. Malta knew nothing of the matter of courtship, she only knew how much she had been looking forward to this moment. Unfortunatly for her family on the inside she was very much still a child, a spoiled child with no concerns whatsoever.

While the adults were debating politics, Malta gave herself an interested expression on her face but wisely stayed out of the conversation, for it was not the conversation that interested her at all. Unnoticed she scanned the Great Hall for the men. Thinking of ways how she would go about winding them around her little fingers. she couldn't supress a smile and twinkle in her eye when suddenly her mother gave her a slight push. The conversers had turned to her and looked a bit shocked to see her smiling.

-Politics is not to be taken lightly young lady!

The old an obviously well respected man that spoke, looked on the verge of exploding, but the worst thing was that after he had said those harsh words he hinted the conversers to turn from her and ignore her..even her own mother!

*You old SOB..Iwill make you pay for this humiliation one way or another
Malta thought to herself..and the words in her mind were like a mirror to her facial expression when she turned and walked away.
Like a child..

"Idiot."  I say to myself.  "You know you're in the field."

I start trotting off, wary of the uncertain footing of the sand.  All around me is death, decay, and the groans of men too young to die.  Maybe some day, I'll wonder why I lived through that hell and they didn't.  Maybe not.

Already, the Colonel is mustering his troops.

"Good", I tell myself.  "At least we still have some real leadership here."

Running up to the Colonel, I breathlessly let him know of the Captain's orders.

"Don't salute, don't salute," I remind myself.  Sheesh, all of these stupid rules.  It's enough to make a man's head spin.

"So the Captain wants us to press some men, does he?"

Colonel Yeager had this way of saying things.  When he spoke to you, it cut to your heart.  It was like a hundred daggers stabbing into you all at once.  And that was when he was giving you one of those 'Atta-boy' speeches.

"Private Seaver, fall in with the rest of them."

"Aye sir!" I respond immediately.  The colonel does not like it when marines consider their answers.

"Listen up marines", he commands.  "We outgun and outnumber those swabs.  We do this by the book.  No one dies unless I say so.  IS THAT CLEAR!?"

"YES SIR!" We resound back.

"Seaver!" he says.  "When their ranking officer identifies himself, I want you to walk up to him and put a round square between his eyes.  When you do that, the fight will drain from his men's eyes.  Good to go?"

"Yes sir", is all I need to say.

Why did he just pick me for that?  Does he know that I'm decent with a firearm?  Does he think that I won't screw it up?  Or...does he know...that?"

These questions pound my brain.  We are running towards our water-weary quarry right now, screaming our heads off.  By gods, this is so much better than being trapped on that floating Bastille...the floating Bastille that the Captain somehow wants to rebuild...

...the man with the cloak... a figure that could haunt even the dreams of a necromancer... even one such as Archon... the man with the cloak, his mster's master... a dark man who walked amongst the demons and caused them to shiver in fear... rumors said that the man with the cloak cannot die... others claim he is a god... but Archon knows the truth... the man with the cloak is Death... he has been around since the dawn of time and reveled in all the great disasters of the living... the Reckoning however was different... it made him curious enough, to take a physical form and take a closer look...

...Archon's mission was to aid his master in his quest to find what helped people rebuild their lives after the destruction of their homeworld.. for is he could understand this, he would be able to end life once and for all... even though Archon didn't want the task at hand, he had no choice but to obey the call of the blood... like all the undead, he was a servant of Death, no matter how bad he wanted to escape... what made things even worse, as a vampire he had his own free will to battle against...

...at least the demons learned to respect and fear him... after the first few dozens were tortured and killed... their chaotic nature couldn't accept Archon as their commander before he pulled the heart of an archdevil out of his burning chest with his bare hands...

Captain Patches was talking to another of the wayward sailors.

"Sir, there is a stand of huge trees up the beach, they look like giant Redwoods but are a steel gray color.  The carpenter's mate said they are more than sufficiant to replace the masts."

"Good," replied the Captain, "Once we round up all of the survivors we'll detail a crew to procure the timber."

The Captain wnet over his inventory in his mind.  Of the 65 guns only 6 of them were out of commission.  He guessed that he would have to have the smith smelt some new tools from them once their supplies ran out.

The cloud cover broke to reveal two moons over a deeper blue sky than he was used to.  Just where the hell are we he thought.

<CRACK>

The Captain was jerked back to reality and looked toward the beach.  One of the Imperial officers fell and the rest of the Imperials and Queensmen where herded together.

"I guess that means the Colonel is alive, now if the First Mate would show his face."

I  the shadows of the Great Hall, Malta's wrath is brewing while she awaits for the old man to come out.
Not knowing what she would do, ruled by her emotions of humiliation.

People are starting to come out of the Hall and they're laughing, some of them drunk, but they don't matter.
Malta moves closer to the exit, waiting. Plenty of young men, but they are the last thing on her mind right now, for it is an old one she's looking for.

Then the moment she had been waiting for arrives. The man passes her without seeing. She sneeks up from behind him and pushes him down the stairs at the same time she hears some sort of blast. Screaming the man falls to his fate and all seems to happen in slow motion. When he finally lays still. The smell of blood in the air.
Malta snaps out of it when she realizes what she had done and runs off into a dark alley where she pauses against a wall to catch her breath. Suddenly she's pulled around the corner. A man's voice:
"Who are you and why did you push the senator?"
It's as if her tongue has dried in her mouth and all the blood is sucked out of her face. Unable to speak herself, the man continues.
"Oh..don't worry..you didn't kill him. I did.."
The blast she heard and she notices the smell of burnt powder on the man. Before she can speak the man continues
"My name is Berch, pleased to meet a fellow rebel. Follow me..you look like you could use a drink and I'll introduce you to our leader"
Never had she been spoken to in such an unmannered way. But by the looks of this man she better play along.
The night getting colder and the company harder.
*quite a predicament you got yourself into*: she thinks to herself

...a recon mission by the ironwood grove...

McClintlock never knew how he survived the first few seconds.  The beast that erupted out of the ground caught Lister with a tuskhorn and threw the rifleman through the air to land in a sodden, bone-shattered lump.  The Marine didn’t even bounce, and the animal couldn’t have cared less.  It was too busy charging straight at the sergeant major.

Somehow, he found himself propelled to one side of the beast by a muscle-tearing turn and dive that landed him on one shoulder, and he fired his rifle even before he hit the ground.

The ball penetrated the heavily armored scaled hide, and the creature screamed in rage.  It pivoted on its axis, but the NCO had other problems to deal with- an entire herd of the giant beasts had burst out of the ground and was stampeding towards the company.

The sergeant major avoided a stamp from one of those sequoia-thick legs and spun again to dodge the flail of a tuskhorn.  He straightened and put his sabre through the beast’s neck and severed its spinal cord sending the beast to the ground.

The corner of his eye caught a flicker that sent him flipping backwards in a maneuver he never could have made practicing, and the space he’d just been in was overrun by another of the giant beasts.  He dodged and rolled twice more as the herd thundered past, then reloaded the rifle and brought down another of the beasts.

A beast charged at him, and he dodged again. But it had learned the first time and turned with him.  The sergeant major knew he was dead and tried desperately to twist aside but he couldn’t quite evade the tuskhorn that…

…suddenly rolled sideways as Pickering and Schmidt unloaded into the beast.

Schmidt opened the beast’s throat with his sabre and offered the sergeant major a hand up.

“Come On!” McClintlock shouted and ran back towards the beach.  He was pleased to see four guns already unlimbered.  The Marines saw their sergeant major running towards them covered in blood, followed by the two riflemen.  It is a credit to their training that the immediately went to their posts.  “Grapeshot!” ordered McClintlock as he tripped and fell to the sand.  The gunners were not slow, the Captain would never allow that, so they loaded their guns with the lethal loads.

The Colonel came up to the scene just as the herd of beasts cleared the rise.  “Ready….FIRE!” he yelled.  The beasts were almost at point black range when they went down in a heap.  “Just what in the Hell are these things?”  asked the Colonel.  “Don’t know Sir.” replied McClintlock, “They are a snow to kill.  Pickering get a detail and make sure they are all dead.”
