Revised Code of Conduct

Just a reminder for those of whom seem to have contracted amnesia..

Code of Conduct
It is important that all members of the Heroes Community read the following guidelines. They have been devised to ensure that the Community will remain as honorable and rewarding as possible. Any violations could result in expulsion from the Heroes Community. Please observe these simple rules and everyone's life will be much more enjoyable.

Messages which contain: racism, sexism, insults and any other illegal abuse of an individual's rights will be removed. Such abuse will NOT BE TOLERATED. No excessive profanity. No porn Matthy in particular please note. No warez material or discussion, which includes asking for CD cracks, keys or generators. Any mention of money "schemes" will be removed. Spam, gibberish, lamers & flaming will not be tolerated. This includes posters who are deemed a detriment to the peace keeping of the forums. Moderators reserve the right to move, edit or delete any message for the purpose of keeping this community up to date, peaceful and organized.

Note: By posting a message on this forum, you are agreeing to adhere to the guidelines of this forum, and that you understand any message deemed against the said guidelines by moderators will be deleted, and you will be penalized. Any violation of the guidelines may result in a ban from Heroes Community.

You know who you are and you know what you've done... as far as most of the members here are concerned you all should have been banned several times over.  Now wake up, shut up, cheer up and above all.. stop messing the place up.

Hi Cat

I think it needs to be overhauled anyway (my opinion only) It seems a loss of red stars doesnt bother anyone anyway (and why should it, it doesnt change your life, thats for sure) Personal attacks and slurs about pretty much everything are on the increase, I wont name names, but they know who they are and seems the mods dont do too much about it. With all due recpect to the moderators, to lop a red star off someones name for the sort of abuse that I have seen is kinda ridiculous. If you want to turn this place into a happier area for posting, then some more control has to be shown.

Therefore, my suggestion would be to keep the red star process if you like, but be more strict on the banning side of things. If a moderator sees a personal attack (not a sarcastic reply, or a general query on the general usefulness of a thread) then that mod should ban the offender for a week. If he/she comes back and offends again, then make it a month. Third offense, banned for good. Yes this requires a lot more upkeep, but really, there are four moderators in the tavern, so it shouldnt be too tough. So I guess this is directed at Valeriy and the mods. For a all round happier place, what say you?

Remember, this is just my opinion, although I think it is valid

you don't ban out personal attacks by banning people, it's the people who have to change.

I know i get upset over things i read in threads a lot of times but i usually restrain myself from responding cause i know it will only cause trouble.

This is also the reason i have not been here for such a long time. It seems you gotta be carefull with everything you say. Difference in opinion often leads to personal attacks here.

While iīm new to the community I think that rychenrollers suggestion seems valid and reasonable.
Well...reasonable... the reasonable thing to do would be for the offenders to stop beeing illmannered.

Nah Kees, you know i like you. errrmmmm..you havent read my latest post in my thread have you?

Im alot with rychen on this one, toss/joke is one thing. Going personal with attacks/flaming is abother. And as someone also pointed out, penalty of red stars means nothing at all. Id say that when you are out of them you are out of here. Or you should be banned for repeatedly bad actions.

Just my opinion.

There lies the prob mate, people dont change. sometimes you have to take steps to weed out those people who seem to be around to cause trouble. You cant get around that, and sometimes banning is the only way. Look at Wesley, he has been banned, warned etc etc, but does he change? no. My point is, sometimes its the only way. People can change, yes, but sometimes, they cant or just dont wanna.

Yes.. a sarcastic reply is would be:-

"Yes Mr. X, I know you love me too"

a direct attack is:

"[censored] you, Mr. X, you [censored] little [censored], I [censored] hate you and your mother [censored]"

You get the idea

The main problem is that people can't tell the difference between an argument/debate and personal insult slapfights.  For me it would be extremely boring if everyone shared my opinions, but because so many people are wrong thinking, it is my pleasure to inform them on what right thinking people should believe.  This would lead to debate, such as the one about the library and the TOH boards awhile ago.  It seems that I was in a debate with a few TOH posters and other people thought that we were fighing when that couldn't be farther from the truth.  We were expressing different ideas, sometimes forcefully, but never attacking each other personally.  How can I attack someone personally when I know nothing about them?  And how can I take a personal insult seriously when I know that the insulter doesn't know me?

The only time personal insults are viable is in comedy insult threads, but still the fact remains that these insults are for comedic perposes and not really personal.

I am sick and tired of reasonably good threads being trashed by a few people who chase each other around the boards insulting everything that the other does.  The mods should delete the posts.  No hemming and hawing about negative red stars(some people are trying to get 0 stars) just delete the posts.  Please delete the posts.

The way to respond to personal insults(unless you are involved in a humorous fight) is by ignoring them.  You didn't see me jumping down Pure Chaos's throat when he called me a retarded 12 year old.  I didn't tell him that the last time I was (Euphanism) his mom, she told me what a disappointment he was.  Or any other insult I could think of, frankly he opened himself up with his shot at me but I decided to ignore it.  Because I don't know this Pure Chaos, a funny insult fight was not warranted(I don't know if he can take it).

So just a little advice, don't go personal.  And relax and stop taking things so personal, because unless you're funny, things just get ugly. (But if you must attack personally, try to do it in an imaginative way, by the Great Feline's Teats you guys sure post lame insults)

The quality of the Tavern has declined steadily over the past few months. To such an extent that I hardly visit this forum any more.

More and more threads end up ruined by squabbles.

More and more threads are created for the purpose of squabbling.

If left unattended things will go from bad to worse. Soon noone will want to visit the Forum. Therefore, the wrong-doers have to stop their activities.

And if they don't stop, they need to be banned.

I don't think the rules needs to be rewritten.

The rules simply need to be enforced.

In respect to the Red stars, I'd say that I'd want to see more of both Penalties and Bonuses. Often removing Red Stars won't stop disruptive behaviour, but in some cases they might serve that purpose. In the cases where the disruptive behaviour continues more decisive actions are needed.

It would be good if we all paid some more respect to those who have Red Stars. The Red Stars are often an indication that a person have dedicated a lot of time and effort to improve the Forum. Most of the posts I've got QP:s for have taken hours to formulate and write down. Many other writers have also spent a lot of time to get their QPs.

While raising quality posters to sky is not the way to go, belittling the efforts made by good posters is not good either, and currently there's too much of that going on. Something is wrong when people wish they don't want to get another QP (like Cat said at one point in the QP thread).

HC have quality posters today. But the way the forum has declined lately, I'd start to be concerned about if they will be here tomorrow.

Perceptions perceptions i guess it depends on your frame of reference ....I rarely post in this forum but usually come here at least once a day to read the posts..   I find this forum funny and entertaining and a relief from other forums of which i am involved where there are full on S##T fights over every small imagined or real insult...lol

so i find the quality of posts here very high generally the flamming i dont believe is out of control compared with other forums.

The life of a Forum is never constant Forums go through highs and lows usually if the forum is a good one the forum will rapidly pick up from any down period as for rules well i believe all rules should be revisited and renewed or reaffirmed and the fact that the forum members are looking at this is an extremley positive development.

my suggestion...

to keep flamers like myself/Wesley/Maniac etc. under control is:
-flamers cannot post for 1/2/4 weeks as a punishment
-more mods should be elected
-ban a person who has less than 0 qp forever

I'm glad I've had so much positive feedback on this thread, and as I have already said to you, Djive, I think you have it bang on the head...  same with OT.. you guys have been here for ages and it must be especially bad for you.

It's nice to know that even though we can all argue the hind legs off a donkey, there is still something most taverners agree on
