Altar of Sacrifice

How does it work when u sacrifice creature... What does it take in consideration...

Its not only health, its not only cash and I doubt its only a combination of those 2.
I did very little testing with some units...

Gremlin: 5
Master Gremlin: 5

Pixie: 5
Sprite: 10

Elf: 25
Grand Elf: 40

Pegasi: 60
Silver Pegasi: 65

Monk: 60
Zealot: 90

Wyvern : 165
Wyvern Monarch: 185

Cavalier: 240
Champion: 260

Naga: 250
Naga Queen: 355

Archangel: 1095

Is dmg part of the formula ?
I'm expecting some guru of heroes to answer me

The problem is, Consis, Conflux is classified as a GOOD town I think, so they can't really sacrifice their pixies.

Well... They are..but if you take in consideration that people begin there game with a hero like Adela(Basic Diplomacy) it's not that useless. You can fight legions of lvl1-lvl2 creture with let's say 10 Archangels(also without losing anything). So if you have expert diplomacy... You start taking creatures and there you have it: Experience,Experience,Experience

Mostly when I play against good opponets, we agree on not playing with Diplomacy(HoMM3) or other cheating skills. When I play against noobs, well I don't take diplomacy as a skill but let them have it...So depend on you if you wanna be a real goodplayer...or not...

First of all, Conflux is a good town and can't sacrifice creatures...

Second of all, I strongly doubt someone playing inferno would ever use an altar of sacrifice... There are 2 reasons for it... With the help of pitlords, u make tons of demons that will help u in ur fight instead of killing creatures to get very little xp. Secondly, the imps cost 50 and give u 5xp(the familiar 60 and 5 xp) so that is 10% of what it costs... Gogs cost 125 and give 15 xp, while magogs cost 175 and give 30 xp; that is respectively 12% and around 17% xp compared to the cost. With such percentage ur better off taking the chests with 500xp cuz at least they give u 50% of xp compared to gold.

Third of all, relics give you 6000xp, not 3000.
Treasure: 1000
Minor: 1500
Major: 3000
Relics: 6000

And IMHO, it is VERY good to sacrifice artifiacts for the good and neutral towns. The reason is simple, you often get useless artifacts or too many artifacts worn in the same place, so you have to choose which one to use and which one to leave in your backpack to collect dust. It is much better to collect xp than dust, since it will help u kill your opponent.

When there are altars of sacrifice, I usually get 2 more levels than if there weren't... The reason is simple right before taking the trees of knowledge, I clean my backpack of all that I won't use for main battle or in preparation for it...

Anyhow, I was asking this because I was playing stronghold and 12 power lich offered to join me, I accepted and was wondering how much they were worth... When I sacrified them, I found that it wasn't only based on their health(like in fights) nor only their cost. So this is the reason for this post.

Consis... in this case, when playing with any town, u could pick Tazar and use the altar of sacrifice for both arts and troups... thus, I do not see why its so terrible to place it near inferno or conflux.

Yay! When there's altar, me play necro! Me choose Isra, so I gather lots of skeletons to sacrifice, then I get experience and summon even more skeletons! Hooray!

Great! Finally a real library thread again!

I did some additional testing and found that the amount of experience that you receive for sacrificing creatures is completely dependent upon the AI value of the creature. Some time ago Xarfax kindly posted a chart with the AI values of every creature on it. It is offline now, but luckily I printed it out. Anyway: the order of the AI values is exactly similar to this list.

This list does not have the AI values, but the XP value can be simply calculated from the AI value. You just take the AI value, divide it by 8 and then round down to the number that is divisible by 5. For example, an AI value of 75 would give an XP of 5 (75/8=9.375; that is rounded down to 5).

Concretely, if you check the list you get 0 XP for sacrificing peasants, 5 XP for sacrificing all creatures between gremlins and hobgoblins, 10 XP for sacrificing pikemen – halberdiers, 15 XP for archers – gogs, 20 XP for stone gargoyles – orcs, 25 XP for obsidian gargoyles – harpy hags etc.

Having explained this, I must admit that I can’t really remember having sacrificed creatures all that often, I’d rather put them on a second hero (but who am I to give advice on that ).

actually it's the same answer as in the "experience or cash" thread. There we (should have) learned that 99.9% of the time you pick cash in order to buy monsters in order to get more experience in the long run.

Here it's the same: Use your troops for fighting, not for sacrificing. That holds for random maps as well as for fixed maps.

On many ToH maps the altar of sacrifice is very important for sacrificing artifacts, because these maps are often enough littered with those. That sucks a bit, since these maps  kinda take out Dungeon, Inferno and Necro heroes as main heroes.

I hardly sacrificed arties on randoms, so I guess unless you're in one of those "one-level-until-expert-earth-before-a-big-fight-situations" the AoS isn't useful on these kind of maps at all.

I strongly recommend not to do that. Skeletons are good. You can have in an ordinary game about 7000 skeltons. Then you have the clone spell. So there you have it.

Conflux heroes are neutral and can sacrifice arts and creatures.

.....

Hi Wub,

nice to see u again. Heres the requested list, and it seems that your are right with your assumption.

http://www.members.aol.com/xarfax1/CreatureValue.xls

I personally seldomly sacrifice creatures, cause its like haile already said. BUT.. i admit that i forget that there is the opportunity to do so, especially before endfights to get the missing experience. Now i think i will have a look on this fact again.

Thanks a lot Xarfax! I made sure I saved it on my computer this time, so that I won't lose it if you run out of web space.

By the way, I can confirm that you are right of course about conflux being a neutral town.

Regarding your scenario, Consis, I do not at all question the good judgments of Maniak, Haile and Xarfax. Personally, I'd say that altars are indeed best used for sacrificing artifacts anyway. I cannot think of a better use for crap artis such as the stoic watchman and the emblem of cognizance, for example.
