Round World.

What if in H5 we had a feature that would be so the map wouldn't be flat but round.  I don't think it would be to hard to create.  Technically the level could never end because it is a sphere.

Example, say someone wanted to make a map based on WW2.  The Red Player (US) was fighting Germany and Japan at the same time, so Germany would be on the right and Japan on the left.  The Blue Player (USSR) was also fighting Japan and Germany.  But for Blue, Japan is on the right and Germany is on the left.

I know this idea might be extremly confusing, if you don't understand I will try to make it less confusing.

Perhaps man.. I'm just not sure with the way the game is now. The maps would have to be alot bigger. There should be more signs of civilizations. And mabey food should be a type of resource.

It is rare the king, leader, or president, is going to travel all around too, so heroes and rulers should be different.

There are alot of things we would have to do, to make the maps round. TO the point that it wouldn't be much like homm anymore. (Although they could easily redo the game and call it something else afffiliated with Homm) Like Homm Stratigies or something

The US is red and the USSR is blue? That's a first

Anyway, the idea is not bad but it does suit a civilization type of game better because the idea of the game was always to run a part of a kingdom, or a very small kingdom that fits on one average size map. The only way I can see your idea working is if the campaign map was spherical and your job was to conquer the entire planet (similar to the "conquer the world" campaign in Rise of Nations).

Well, if the world is round and it all fits into one map...

Then the game consists of just that one Map. When you have conquered it there is nothing more left to conquer.

The feature might work well for single maps made by map makers, though for maps shipped with the game I'd rather see it using the current feature of limiting the map by having borders.

You would also get somewhat skewed results because you would be trying to map a sphere onto a flat area and that is not done without skewing perspective and scales in some places.

make it really large.

Explorers discover resource and build mines (unless the world is already being sucked)

complexities of visual output
It could digitaly work.. but think about the complication of connecting the NE, to SW corner.
In the corner of the map your acctualy looking at 4 seperate prints of the same current map.

I doubt small maps would go well, although transports to other small locations (IE magical realm, dimension, star, ect..) would be ok and up to map makers to use.

I dont see this happening without changing alot of the game.

You are obviously NOT  Discworld fan.

How much bigger maps would have to be for this feature to make sense ?
