Should Heroes 5 have runes in it?

Hello everyone,

I have a small wish for Heroes of Might and Magic 5.

I was thinking about the possibility of having ancient style runes as part of the new game. If you played games like Diablo II: Lord of Destruction or similar you would understand what I'm talking about. Basically, what I'm saying is that the game should have runes as a possible treasure class artifact that, when equipped by the hero, gives bonuses to the army or the hero. The slots for the runes is seperate from the four miscallenous slots, each hero is equipped with a bracelet that allows three runes to be installed in it. Unlike other slots, these runes cannot be removed once they are installed in the bracelet, so the hero should choose very wisely about the runes that go in his/her bracelet. If the three runes that get installed in the bracelet transmute into a rune word, that hero will get generous bonuses that will benefit his army or his skills. The rune word bonuses will add on top of the bonuses already given by the runes. Runes that are not installed in the bracelet are stored in the backpack and do not count as bonuses.

Here is one example:
Lem rune - friendly creatures do 10% extra damage
Ist rune - hero gains +10 spell points and regenerates 1 extra point/day
Ral rune - friendly creatures receive 10% extra defense
Transmute into the rune word LemIstRal, which means Might, and the rune word gives all friendly creatures an extra 30% in attack and defense ratings.

So what do you think about the idea of runes in heroes?

Yeah, Damacon, that's an interesting idea you've got there. Runes would bring a small amount of novelty to the game, and unless they're too powerfull, they wouldn't do the game any harm. There's one condition, though, heroes should only have one bracelet, that could not be exchanged or replaced.

Thats a really good idea. There should be a limited amount of runes on the map though. That way not every person is able to complete a bracelet and make a rune word. If you kill an enemy hero do you recieve his runes or are they lost forever? In addition to creating rune words by completing a bracelet i think their should be another area of the map or another underground area only accesable to those who have completed their bracelets. It could also be in the clouds, connected to a golden stairway.

BoogieMan, thanks for your input, but I am saying that runes will be divided into various levels, from treasure to relic, and the relic runes will be very rare, and will carry a higher level requirement before you can wear them.

Dragon_Slayer, thanks for your input. About your thought on killing the enemy and receiving his/er runes, under my proposal if you kill an enemy you will not be able to retrieve his/er runes, it will be gone forever (if heroes still fight in combat, if heroes don't fight in combat then the defeated hero keeps his runes and when hired again s/he will still have them). About having special areas like heaven for heroes that have rune words, I don't want to go on that topic, sorry about that. Some runes will be rare, but others will be common.

My proposed level requirements for runes are as follows:

Treasure runes (common): Level 6
Minor runes (semi-common): Level 12
Major runes (rare): Level 20
Relic runes (very rare): Level 30

Comparative powers of runes by level(example):
Treasure rune: Gives +2 morale to all creatures.
Minor rune: Gives 500 gold/day and increases level 1 creature production by 20%/week if the hero who wears the rune is in a town.
Major rune: All friendly creatures gain +30% attack and defense.
Relic rune: All friendly creatures may attack twice each round when attacking and retaliate against an extra attack each round.

How is that?

Well, I think itīs a bad idea...

First of all because only a few actually knows ANYTHING about Runes and Runelore and secondly because fewer knows anything FACTUAL about it!

Please take the time to get to know something about the ancient norse Runes before "throwing in" some science-fiction-magic-bean-Runes...
Not a few would be sad to see a Harry Potterish glow to the game!

Not knowing much about Runes? Visit the link and youīd get at least +1 Wisdom!
