WOGIFY MAPS

Help!!!!!

I need to know if I can play wogify maps with 3.57f.  Every time I try to play one the game freezes.  I dont know if it is because WOG is trying to wogify an already wogified game or what??!!!???

I got some wogify maps online and would realy like to play them.      HELP

1) You don't have 3.56.
or
2) The maps already had ERM scripts.
or
3) The maps were not properly renamed and saved ( i.e. "wogify_Back for Revenge" instead of just "Back for Revenge")
or
3) Your computer hates you.
or
4) There was something wrong with your installation. Try to reinstall WoG. Not recommended until Fnord answers your question.

When you tried to wogify them did you get a warning telling you not to?

If so, then it means these maps already contain ERM scripts and shouldn't be wogified.

If you didn't get a warning and if you're certain the maps don't contain ERM scripts (scripts would be in the Timed Events or in a file name the same as the map with .erm at the end), then you'll have to give some more details about the specific problem--when does the game freeze?  Immediately after loading?  After wogifying?  After one turn?  One week?  During combat?  Do you get error messages and if so what are they?  Does it consistently freeze?  Is it only with certain maps?  How about random maps generated in the game?

The maps are ones I downloaded online from:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/heroes3wogifymaps/.

They freeze after they load, as soon as the map shows up on screen.  I either have to "close program" or re-boot.  I have no problem on random maps.  I get no warning or error msgs.  It only seems to happen on maps that begin with "wogify"  or some older H3 maps.  I tried to just rename the maps but it doesn't work...

I love playing WOG, and am excited to be able to get any new maps.  I work 70-80 hours a week, so I am not able to learn mapmaking,  gotta pay the bills.  I have been playing wog since begining and love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I just signed up to the group and downloaded Amazon Basin and tried wogifying it (with 3.57f) and it loaded and worked fine for me. I only played until turn 2 but since you say it freezes right away (I assume this is before the "WoGification is about to begin", right?) that should be sufficient. (It did take a minute or two to WoGify but that's less time than a lot of large maps.)

How much memory do you have on your computer? Could this be a memory issue perhaps? (WoG does take more so large maps filled with stuff might cause you to run out of memory if you don't have a lot.)

If memory's not a problem, I'm afraid I don't know what's causing the problems for you. My system isn't all that powerful (only Celeron 333 but with 196MB of RAM running Windows 98 SE) but it does have an ASUS motherboard and has always been pretty stable with WoG, even more so than other people I know who have faster/newer machines.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Maybe someone else will have some ideas why it's not working on your computer.

HELP!

And here I was, thinking it always happens to somebody else...

My game crashes whenever I try to start this map. It is an XL WoG scenario with random creatures and resources. The problem is I made the map myself, so I cannot simply forget it

The only unusual thing I've done during the mapmaking was deleting the whole underground in the "general menu" in the map properties. (I put it back, but the game still crashes before it even loads the map).

All other maps, from SoD to scripted WoG to wogify_maps work well and the game doesn't crashes.

P.S. I'm sorry if you've already seen this topic somewhere else. I'm really upset and would appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks!

There's a lot of things that can crash a Heroes 3 map, WoG or otherwise, but one that I recall is random heroes. If you give a random hero troops, it seems to crash the map (and SoD error, not WoG I believe). There may be other problems with random heroes too so you could try avoiding them if you have any. If that's not it or you don't have random heroes anyway (aside from the ones generated at a town), then it must be something else. Do you have custom scripts?  I get the feeling you're not wogifying this map from what you wrote above, but if you are wogifying it, you could try loading it without wogifying and if that works, disable all options and see if loads and then enable one at a time. If you're not wogifying it but you have scripts, try disabling them (temporarily remove the ZVSE at the top of each script) and see if that helps.

Heh, problem solved.

It was ERM. When I removed them all, the game kept on crashing before it even loaded the map. I put the ERM back and now it works well.

So, my game cannot work without ERM anymore?!

Sadly, I still can't wogify the map (remember, it crashes if I remove the ERM!)...

One question, though: I enabled the mithril, but it's useless - I cannot do anything with it. Is there a script that enables the use of mithril?

Yes there is.  Go into the data\s dir and open I believe it is script36.erm.  That should be the mithril script.  Hope that helps.  If that isn't it then I am lost since it can be a number of scripts that use mithril for things.  If the 1 I gave you is useless to you then maybe Fnord will have your answer.  I know different scripts in the game uses Mithril for something.

There is a script in the map "Painted:The Misfit" that enables mithril. It was modified by Fnord and was used in this map. As far as I'm concerned, being one of the main architects of this map, you have permission to use the script in your map if you like. I don't believe any of the other makers of this map would mind either. If you wish to use the same script from another map, I have used it in some of my other maps, namely "The World is Not Enough" by myself and Skakik or the map "Boloto" by the two of us also.

Thanks, guys!

I know this is off topic, but now I'm stuck with commanders.

This is very frustrating: the help file insist I CANNOT enable commanders with with simple !#UN: instructions, but in "Boloto" and some other maps this is precisely the way they are enabled. Was this a 3.57f update?

I don't know if it is or not. I came into the WoG team between 3.57 and 3.57f. So, therefore, when I have made my maps, I use 3.57f. This would have to be answered I guess by someone on the team who helped develop 3.57. If your not updated to 3.57f, then maybe you should be. I know other things were added to it that were'nt included to 3.57.

Yes, !#UN3/0;  will enable Commanders but I'm not sure when it was added -- quite possibly in 3.57f.

Before the change was made, it only worked if you enabled them after the instruction phase.

Also, if you wish to use other hard-coded 3.57 features, UN3 should really be the first instruction in the map scripts whether you use !#UN3/0; or !#UN3/1;

If you have the patience to download the full install of 3.57f, that may be your best solution.

What problem are you having installing the patch?  I just installed it the other day since I lost my pc due to a crash and it worked fine.  Let me know the problem and I can see if I can help.

It says: '1A' is not a valid integer value, and then the installation freezes.

Try sending your wogdebug files to Slava.  In your heroes dir is a dir called woglogs.  Those are the wog installation logs.  He will know what this means and the cause of it.

Looks like you have forgotten to switch your language to English for installation time.
 Is it possible?

Then, the latest Install.exe software (you need also lang.txt file to work it properly) may be found at our download page. That version should give you more reasonable message :-)
