its not about america its about the world. But honestly, america is a prt of good changes in the world (asswell as america). Trust me, when you study history from the unknown up to rome and stuff, ppl were really unknowing.

I definately see room for reforms in the entire world! Instead of united states and nations, it should be United world. Figure, diverse everything the way it is now, but the world works together for the world.

Bush, or any other president are just 1 person on top of legislation thats all.

Not a simple question, even more a complicated answer.

As I like talking of misconceptions, I'll mention a few here as well.

First, a big misconception is that all the troubles of the US started when Bush came into power. That is merely not true. All the degeneration of the US economy is a result of previous political and social decisions of the government and the president. Events that were taking place years ago merely surfaced when Bush became a president. It is short-sighted to say that all problems came with Bush. Just not true.

Now, we all know what REALLY started it. The events of the 09/11. Like a loaded gun whose trigger was pulled. And it just happened that Bush was the miser who had to take care of the big mess.

However, to answer your question, he did not take care of it but made a bigger mess.

Now, what was going on prior to all this?

Okay, we all known the typical American policy of the States being peacemakers (and piecemakers) which infuriated a lot of peoples. Now, there is one BIG advantage America has to other countries. It's pretty much on its own. Mexico to the south, Canada to the north, oceans at both sides. That's it. That makes it VERY hard for any type of assaults while the country could be self-sustaining. That's why the States didn't suffer -direct- wrath from offended sides. (See why it's different in Russia?). However, aggravation -was- being accumulated because of a multitude of choices the US (that is, the Presidents) made.

Then BOOM, the Towers fell.

What happened?

It turned out the US wasn't as safe at the others thought. Not for the people. Not for the money. SO a lot of foreign investments just cease to come in the country. At ONCE! People in the US themselves are frightened and would rather save than invest.

No investments, the country goes in recession.  Supersonic fast.

Lack of credit and investment, this is how a row of very big companies went down in the D. And they dragged a multitude of smallar companied... like a pyramid falling down to the base.

People lost their jobs. And of course, trust in the government.

Now this is when the Bush issue kicks in.

When faced with a horrible situation like that, the dear Mr president could go two ways. Other for shortly drop the idea of having a finger in every (inter)national pie and go around minding his own home business or go Jeronimo abroad.

This is where I think he made a BIG BIG blunder.

He could have done a LOT of things to improve the economy and straighten the country up. Instead, he wasted his money on propaganda and war.

When faced with a national crisis and concentrating your politics in the international direction, you may have two reasons. 1. Distract the attention from the problems inside the country. 2. Try tom lay the upper hand on someone else's money and resources.

That's what Bush did.

He tried to get the upper hand on Iraq's oil. If he did that... I'm not that well informed. Maybe he did. In that case, the benefits of it would be felt years and years later (see my post in Taxes thread). Meanwhile, though, the national economy is going down and going down FAST.

I think Greenspan and Bush could and should have done a LOT more. Paid MUCH more attention to the economical issues and dealt with them instead of pursuing badass heroes abroad. The US needs much more attention than Iraq. In this sense, I don't think Bush is a good President. Not at all. I think he lacks foresight or backbone.

I'm not elaborating into Bush's personal reasons for going for Iraq's oil. I'm just going to mention that once a cartel boy, always a cartel boy.

What's more, his very election was a CLOSE one. In many people's eyes (even mine) he was not the rightful president. He lacks charisma. He has done nothing to gain the sympathies of his nation. His people lose their jobs.

For me that's the description of a very unsuccessful President.

I could elaborate a lot more on this but I'll make sure someone actually READS all this. ;-)

Well one thang people dont under stand is people from countries think that 100% of us are fat & lazy & dont do nothing.
People out here are pretty dif Garuntee not all of us are lazy fat people.
Always someone making harsh jokes on the big people even in the important people like Actors etc.
Whats bad is that the fat people are worst putting other other big people down then thinner ones.
Everyone I know dont agree if much that Bush & his ad has done but we cant have no say so.
Now people in America that are dumb, yes some are.
Like those wantabe gangsters that like to fight other people even elders for no pratical reasons or little kids pulling out guns killing people just for the jollies.
Now some are scared of gangs & a right so but one thang I  can tell you is if you met a gang banger most likely they will never mess with you.
but if you mess up then you can be in alot of trouble.

Now theres prejudice people that would kill you if you were gay just because they hate them,or dif race etc.

Orless you got a scholarship most cant afford to go to college.
Plus how much the Govt messed up our lives & basically admitted it that they tax the poor more then the rich dang republicans .
Basically the richer you are better offf you are which can change the heart of a person also.

Theres alot of good people & most I know are good people that are going through alot.
I cant afford to go to college.
Most people think Americans are stupid, why dont you do some research on minimum wage or a descent job,& a descent place to live, Automobiles & insurance, bills & then see how much a good college is then tell me if everyperson can do it.Kids are expensive .

Theres alot that would love to go to school & get a degree but heh thats why we have bums out in the streets everywhere, cause the govt dont give a crap.

It's funny how the preamble to the Constitution, the founding document of the government of the United States, reads "We the people ..." and yet some people can't seem to make the connection that we, the people of the United States, are the government.  If the government sucks, it's because we suck.

just my humble opinion, of course.

If it was in the Tavern it would get less posts.  Threads in the Tavern usually end up going to the back pages because of all the word games.  Keep it here.
