Your Vision of Heaven?

ive always wondered, when i die, what will heaven look like? i gaint fulf of clouds and you just floating and flying around, or will i b able to do stuff? like own my own house make movies, just live out life normally, yet knowing u will live on forever... i wonder if ill get bored. yet there will be no other animals, or will they? ive always heard other animals besides humans have no soul. what happens if i want to go horseback riding? will i ride on a fluffy cloud? or will the Holy Lord provide it for the people in heaven? so many questions i have about heaven, i guess ill get em answered in about 80 years...

so?

what is your vision on heaven?

Alright, I -do- know it's early for a Milena post...

... but I can't help it.

Alright, first question, how do I imagine heaven?

Having someone next to me who loves me and who I love, having a good job that satisfies me but does not tire me down, a house in a beautiful place where I could live with my beloved, less bigots on earth and a lot of friends. All in all, being genuinely happy is being in heaven for me.

As an Unitarian universalist, I do not believe in heaven and hell after life the way most Christians imagine them. Eternal life in the clouds with a harp and honey cakes. Oh, on the same line, Hell and Heaven are actually not spoken of directly in the Bible, they are apocryphical stuff. No where can you find a place where devils prod sinners with rods, no pools of lava and people screaming. Actually, it all started with Dante who described that in his "Divine Comedy". The Apocalysis in the New Testament gives some clues about more ... infernal things to come to earth and yet, it's not hell, it's not heaven.

The Catholic Church, for a looooong time had the promotion of hell and heaven, with turned out to be a horribly effective weapon. Why? Why does it work? Because people fear. Remember the First rule of the wizard? "People would believe in a lie either because they want to or fear it."

Want to believe there's life after death and fear eternal suffering in Hell. Which very easily becomes a tool of the church. What better way to attract followers and meld them your way than fear? And I've not even started on the point of Calvinism. So, that's what the Church says. Go our ways, go to church every Sunday, pray to the Lord, yadayada, you'll go to Heaven.

If not - eternal damnation!

And I'm not even started on the original sin, mind you (sometimes it's wicked to be an UU with a big mouth on religious topics).

However, there comes the question of how people define Heaven and Hell. The usual idea is ... what I described. Clouds and honey cakes and music and ... it's making me sick, all its disgusting -slickness-. Maybe it would be OK the first 1 year, 10 years, then what? You get tired. You get bored. You get SICK. It's the same old thing repeating and repeating all over again. Minds like mine (I do claim I have the creative mind of an artist) would find THIS hell. To be restricted, to be deprived of their unique talent... no. I'd rather have a house and a genuine beloved. Screw the harp and the honeycake. I want happiness.

You see, with time you get tired. Or used to it. Hell... what is hell like? Fire? Pain? You get used to pain. You grow fortitude. Imagine pain for centuries. Heh. After a while, you'll start ignoring it. It won't feel like a punishment any more.

And, I'm -yet- not touching the subject how merciful a really merciful God should be if He leaves people suffer - his children.

So, to get back to the point of MY heaven. I'm like this. I consider myself a nice person. I do whatever is necessary. If someone starts killing off people, I'd kill them, trying to save more. And no, I will not see it in a bad way. I don't care about hell and heaven - such ... undefined things after death. What I -am- striving for is a happiness in the life I have now, this life. I've been through heaven and I've been through hell. I've been suicidal. Hours would feel like years, dragging, dragging me with them, dragging me down. Dark thoughts would come to me, I'd feel my heart bathing in pain. I don't need fire to feel pain. It needs a betrayal of a friend or ending a happy relationship. Pain in the heart is MUCH stronger than pain in the body.

And I've been happy. I've lied in by bed crying with happiness, so happy I could die and say I was in heaven. I don't need another heaven. I need that.

Ah, and there comes the last point of this post. God help us if you live all life in hell or heaven. If you know only pleasure, you know indolence, pride, lust. Rings a bell? Happiness and bliss when experienced for a long time stop having their value. You just forget what they truly mean. You stop appreciating them.

So.... Christians may have their lovely Heaven after death. I'd rather have my life now.

QP deserved...

well, from what ive heard abot Hell, i dont not belive in eternal suffering, when i was young, about 6 i belive, i was at church, i heard something about Hell, not suffering, just not existing, as if your spirite just ceased to exist, that was hells for, ceasing to exist.

but as for heaven ive always wondered, what if, its like normal day life? execpt peace, no evil, no wars, no murders, no crime, no worry, u feel safe as you can be, just living in your own house, having your own things, but still, no evil.

so i guess, its a good time to say "apperances are deciving"
i think i spelled rong, but o well

What would you do in Heaven?  If you can do anything and have nothing to live for, wouldn't you be bored out of your mind?  Would you be alone or with your significant other?  And what if you don't have a significant other?  If you do something bad in heaven do you automatically go to hell?  I have so many questions about Heaven.

I remember we had discussions like 2 or so yrs ago about after life & heaven etc & truth is we all have our dif opinions on heaven & if it really exists or or how we get there etc.
Just like afterlife.
What really does happen do you become a spirit stuck in a void wandering as a ghost to some because somethang was not fullfilled in life aor a tragic death.
Or do we get to live in another life time from a dif era.
Does nothing happen.

We all can think & wish but i think in reality we dont know.
Just like dreams we dont know what they mean but sometime it can clue you by showing you your worst fear or past & future.
Some people have the weird scary gift of knowing the future before it happens as i posted in I think the dream thread yrs ago.

I guess only time will tell because thios whole world 7 life is a mystery with all the beliefs & contradictions we all believe but what is truth?

Heaven does exist, but thinking that a life where pain and suffering can enter at any time is Heaven is rather sad, IMO. If that is the best Heaven has to offer, then what hope do any of us have, in this life or the next? Heaven, I believe, is a very real place, as is Hell.

It is sad to see how stereotyped notions of Heaven, Hell, and the like have become in today's society. Heaven is not furnished with pearly gates. Hell is not a prison where demons come and torture you every once in a while. The devil is not a red horned monster that wields a pitchfork and causes all suffering. The Bible says that the Lucifer was the most beautiful angel in all of Heaven, and that pride and vanity caused him to think that he could become greater than God, so he was cast out of Heaven.

Heaven is described not as a place of floating on clouds and eating honey cakes, but as a place where all suffering ends. Not much is mentioned on Heaven, as the only book that goes into detail about it is Revelation, but so many have taken the liberty to add harps and white robes into the mix when they are mentioned nowhere in the source. Nobody will just sit on their cloud and strum away, they will all be praising God and sitting before His throne, in awe of his glory.

Now for Hell. Known as the Lake of Fire, Hell is only described as a place of unfathomable suffering and of endless anguish where Satan and his followers will spend all of eternity, greater than anything we could imagine here on earth. I doubt anyone would simply get used to it, no matter how stolid they were. The only glimpse of Hell is in Revelation, when Hell on earth would take over. Three-fourths of the population will die, I believe it is about that many. Wars will break out among the people, plagues will overrun the earth, and many will pray for death, but not find its consolation, before the end.

Also, contrary again to the popular cosensus, Satan does not live in Hell. He roams the earth. The Bible describes Satan as "roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." He is here on earth to tempt us, to console us when we feel guilty, to urge us to rationalize sin so that we may do it again, and again.

Now on to the topic. What I believe about Heaven is that it is very real, and it will be very relaxing after a tumultuous life here on earth. The absence of sorrow, of pain, and of fear will give those who go there a feeling of serenity, and is a generous reward to a sinful people who definitely do not deserve it.

more on the satan roaming the earth thingy,

well yes, have u ever had that feeling, like if u got in a fight with ur bro, like lets just stop and be friends thing going in ur mind, and then suddenly u feel something spark up inside u? like a fuse that went off something just wispered in ur ear, do it, just hit him again, then u stop and think 4 a sec, then u feel the goodness come back to your system

so its like god is watching, so if u have a good soul, the less time the devil has to spark inside u, and feed u on evil, it last only seconds, but its just creepy, has it ever happened 2 u? did u ever get that feeling?

well bak 2 the more heavenly side, ive been think is it just like earth only just like u live on 4ever, days seem like life ages of the earth, become all wise, learn many things, ive always wondered, what r the limitations of heaven. yet when i go 2 church, this what i hear from the bible and that explanation thingy, that people who belive in god beleive everything is possible, yet those who do not belive, they think that somethings r just not possible, im talking about those who obey the laws of physics, once ur dead, ur dead no coming  back.

Yes, I have felt that. It is probably something along the lines of the Holy Spirit and Satan battling it out for your attention. Whichever you let win, wins in your mind. It is kind of like the angel and devil that appear on character's shoulders in cartoons.

Nah, it probably just happens when the devil's persuasiveness and rationalizations dominate over the angel's reason and morality.

When I'll die, I won't see the heaven nor hell. I won't feel anything and won't think. I won't feel good and I won't feel bad. I just won't exist more. How shall I be able to think or feel where my brain become a piece of rotten meat, and my neurons won't more function and transfer electrical signals to each other, and my memory will vanish as the info from a disk that is being formatted with /U key.
And, BountyHunter, your end won't differ from this one.

Hey ppl!
In the other side, we are supposed to talk about real life, not fantasy! Hell, heaven, Satan, god, soul... Or I am damn the first atheist here? "Why is atheism so prevalent in online communities?" - remembering that thread... I honestly don't understand - are you serious here?

If no... Sorry for breaking your game.

And about the Heaven... It is quite simple. Put electrodes in a so-called Heaven - a special zone at your brain and keep constantly irritating it with electicity. You won't need something more. Nirvana, someone would remember. Say me it's not life, it's death... OK. Life is a war against Heaven and Hell (another brain area). While they fight, you live. Let one of them win and become a plant until you really die.
Until you stop existing.

Expecting -QP for this post.

P.S. In the battle between Devil and Angel I'd bet on the Devil. The no retaliation feature well compensates the lower stats see my sig to learn howto beat 60 Arch Angels with 30 simple Devils.

IRh, that is exactly what I would have posted.  hehe

Athiest, realist, either way I don't think anything at all happens when you die.

As for Heaven... as the songs say, that's a place on earth.

For me, it is the house that I'm buying, the wife that I love, and the children that will follow.

i cant say for sure but I can say my vision of a hell.

God wouldn't nessesarily inflict physical pain. I dont even think, hell would be painful. A just hell, could be..

Either A: Complete aloneness left to mental devices. Self entertainment is possible but emptieness may never change.

or B: There is an actual residance of people who all know they are sinners and dont think its cool and good to be so. There are angels (spirits) that speak to you and your feelings are seemingly controled and trained to feel shame, regret, hope, ect..

Heaven, (there is a religion I like with a hopeful destination.)
A man and woman are together in godly perfection and everything maintains its fruitful desire. They then create a world of their own. All else beyond that, if nessesary, is questionable.

I want to be able to run around barefoot without the worries of falling or hurting my feet. I want to beable to eat aswsome things that grow all the time and never spoil.
I want to beable to simulate life in anyway I want to. Making gamelife easy and better than VR.

For 1
I would fly against dragins. I would, be as strong as them and the pain I felt dosnt really hurt.   I would fly, and grab them, whirling them on the ground and there would be like 20 or 30! as many as I want. Dodging fire blasts, throwing dragons into other ones.. A continent sized battlefield of domination. Somehow of course, the game isnt easy all the time.
