A chat on the run...

Woock: You want me to dematerialize myself AND the scroll? I think you are overrating my abilities.

Vadskye: You don't seem to have a problem with that

*Vadskye's points at Woock's chest*

Woock: That, my friend, is spam armor. I recreate it every time I pop in. Guess why it ain't got too many nifty details.

Vadskye: Damn. This'll make things even trickier...

Woock: Well, at least I know how to not get hypnotized by Dingo.

Old Alliances Broken Off And Set Anew

Silver stood near the treats table with all the gnomish delights of delectable toppings and gooey morsels. He didn't want to be noticed by most of the party goers. He only wanted to taste test the selection of finely cooked gnomish dishes and deserts. He carefully scanned the selection with a keen eye that would suit his own fancy of particulars. He told himself, "No broolcapper while I'm here. I need to lose some weight." The treat was considered to be of the fast food variety. It wasn't the most nutritious but everyone seemed to like it.

After his plate was full of goodies he turned and checked out the party. From where he stood he could see the somber romance of the ancient cave dances being played out by the many guests attending. There were duergar dwarves, mountain dwarves, a few humans, other deepgnome clans, and an elf.

He blinked his eyes and thought, "What in blazes is an elf doing down here? Is that..." His speech trailed off as the elvish figure approached him. As it came closer he noticed the skin was dark as the night! Silver's jaw dropped and he stood still in fear not knowing what to do.

As he stood there frozen a burley voice cried out, "Come to me warrior! Black elf warrior!" Silver turned like a zombie toward the voice and saw a heavily armored mountain dwarf with a dark beard that fell past his knees unsheeth his axe from it's harness on his back. The staunchy hairy figure stood and faced the drow elf.

It did not, however, seem to notice him as it approached Silver. By this time the music had stopped and the entire cast of party members were looking on in wonder and confusion at the dwarf who was now walking steadily towards the dark elven warrior. As he approached he mumbled to himself, "Ye'll not ignore me like that ye black hearted menace. Come and sample the axe what has your name written all over it!"

Silver came to from his daze as he started to choke on the food in his mouth. He coughed it up and realized the dwarf and drow were coming his way. The dark elf reached under his cloak and removed a blade that seemed to suck the light from the candles that lit the underground festival hall.

Silver thought to himself, "This is not good. Why the hell am I being singled out here? That dwarf is going to swing at the warrior, miss, and decapitate me from my own little helpless body! Ok, the quickest exit route is...." Silver began to scan for a direction to flee in but it was too late. The elf was upon him. Silver, afraid for his life, raised his hands over his eyes as if to make it all go away. Just as he did, the dwarf's axe was in mid-swing as it effortlessly sliced through the image of the drow warrior, over Silver's head and uncontrollably into the table behind him that hosted all the food.

The table was forced in half as the food went soaring through air landing on the dwarf and Silver. The guests burst into laughter and the music started playing again. Silver uncovered his eyes to see an enraged dwarf looking straight at him with fire in his eyes. Silver noticed the elf was gone and they were both standing in front of each other covered with icky sticky guck from the variety of foods spilled on them. Silver wanted to laugh as he saw the sight of an angry dwarf covered in food but he restrained himself from doing so as he was now worried about the dwarf's intentions.

That was not a very pleasant look coming from the dwarf. The dwarf dropped his axe and pointed at Silver, "You did this! Your faerie magic cost me a bath and some new armor for this party! I'm going to wring your little faerie neck midget!"

Silver scoffed, "You think I did that? Might I ask you why I would cast a drow elf illusion and lure you to nearly cut off my head with that barbaric axe of yours? And another thing, who are you calling a faerie? Atleast I'm no giant cut off at the hips! Where the hell are your legs giant?"

The dwarf growled, "I'll kill you faerie!"

At that, Silver dodged a blow swung by the dwarf and turned invisible to run away. As he exited the dwarf proceeded to tear the through the tablecloth and food looking for the invisible gnome. He snarled and grunted in a fit of unsatisfied anger. His frustration was apparent.

Silver had run around the corner of an entrance to the great underground hall and headed towards the waterfall caves.

As he was cleaning himself off he could hear footsteps coming from behind him in a tunnel that emptied into the cavern he was standing in. He thought to himself, "If that dwarf finds me I'll have to phantasmal force him into leaving me alone." He saw a shadow from around the corner and as it came closer the shadow became a short figure. As the figure calmly approached Silver relaxed and saw that it was his old friend Camilla. She had a smirk on her face and was holding back some giggles as she walked up to greet him with a hug.

Silver sighed, "Camilla, I should've known it was you all along. Only you know my greatest fears. If that had been a real Drow male then he would've hunted from the shadows. I can't believe I fell for it."

She laughed and said, "You're getting old Sly. You've been gone too long from the caves. What brings you this way? I thought you weren't coming back."

She helped him dry off with her cloak and the two sat down on a nearby deformed stalagmite. It was deformed into the shape of a bench.

Silver responded, "Well, the war hasn't ended. They need my talents but as you know I haven't got the stomach for such fire. I thought I could use some rest and decided to come home for the festival."

Camilla's eyes batted slowly as she inched closer to Silver. "I've missed you Sly. Did you miss me?"

Silver knew he better keep his big mouth shut but couldn't hold back his answer, "Yes, Jitterbug, I've missed you too."

She brought her hand up behind his head and began to strum through his hair, caressing it slightly. "Have you considered my proposal", she asked.

"Yes Jitt, but you know I can't fulfill an obligation to you while this war is going on. They need me if a cease in hostilites is ever to be achieved. I am sorry."

She leaned over and kissed his moistened forehead. "My offer will never change. You know that. I long for your company."

Camilla stood up and left through the way she came. Silver appeared to be in emotional pain as she left but as she turned the corner he wiped his head and let out a sigh of relief. He said to himself, "Whoa that was a close one! I almost said yes! Silver you numbskull, get control of yourself! One little 'I do' and you'll be stuck here tending to her entire estate!"

The thought of manual labor drove him to shivers. He was cold from the waterfall but it wasn't nearly the same. He was glad he avoided yet another proposal for land proprietorship. He liked the open road too much. He considered himself a travelling sort and didn't like the constraints of a homely abode.

As he sat there Lord_Woock seemed to blink into existence next to him. Silver was cleaning his ears as Lord_Woock told him the latest scoop. Silver agreed to come along after he was completely dried off.

As he stood and started the trip back he whispered to himself, "Well that was fun. Deepgnomes are always such good company. I definately had a good time."

Shadowcaster was alone with himself for the first time since his friend had repaid Sheila's blood with his own. He was awake, so no dream haunted his mind, but he was no longer teetering on the edge of death either. His link to the afterlife had been severed. His wounds had been partly closed by what seemed to be some sort of magic. It didn't cross his mind that it was Deimos' doing, but it wouldn't have mattered to him now anyway.

Millions of thoughts bounced around in his head, each serving only to consume him with the guilt he should have suffered so long ago. Shadowcaster was driving himself down deeper, but he now hated himself in place of his friend. He had forgiven RSF for Sheila's sake, but he couldn't bring himself to forgive his own wrongdoings, no matter how hard he tried. He killed her, simply because he couldn't have her, and such was unforgivable to him. He wanted to die, but couldn't. He had to stay alive.

Shadowcaster lay on his friend's bed, in the room where the two had shared countless moments of joy together during their younger days, but he did not realize it. The shadow mage's eyes remained closed in an attempt to shut out the world from himself so that he might be left in solitude. If death was not the answer, then surely such isolation was. Friendships were entangling, they complicated things, and such entanglements did not seem worth it to the shadow mage anymore. The only person he cared about now was himself. His black heart slowly faded into nothingness.

Slowly, Shadowcaster began detaching his ties, his loyalties to anyone or anything. He no longer belonged to Chaos, nor would he return to Order. If there really was a truce, then now was the perfect time to break away from everything. He cut away friendships, severed his allegiances, even tried to forget his memories from long ago. The shadow mage, as he vowed to end his most endearing friendship with Wolfman, was finally free from everything. He no longer loved Sheila, he no longer hated RSF, he no longer cared at all about Wolfman. Nothing mattered anymore. He had lost his heart, and with it, the passion that he had so valued in his years with Chaos, the love he had felt so keenly in Order, and the devotion that only a mother could teach. Only power interested him now, revenge was trivial to the heartless shadow mage. Shadowcaster had been reborn.

As Sheila and Wolfman watched Shadow lose his heart, a single tear rolled down each of their cheeks as both of their hearts, hearts that had stopped beating long before, broke, just like their ties to Shadowcaster. Solitude had found the shadow mage after all.

Deimos kept runninng. Suddenly, he tripped over one of the webs, and it forced him to remember things. Things he had consealed from Wolfman or RSF. The feeling that he shouldn't kill Dingo if he had the chance. He shouldn't kill anyone, ever. He remembered...

Deimos was a teenager. He was impressed by his father's successes in Mvass's army, so he decided to enlist as well. He did exceptionally well, but on his first mission, all went wrong.
He and his friends Madruk and Salo had to go subdue a tribe of ice demons. Their orders have been "To kill everything". So, when he arrived at the village, he was attacked by the village warriors. He quickly dispached them, and moved on to killing the civillians. Deimos protested, but Salo said, "Are you deserting?" and he had to answer "No."
However, that day, he only killed 3 civillians. It was when nearly everyone had been killed, Madruk said, "Deimos, why don't you kill someone? You have to." So, Deimos went and killed a mother and 2 children. After he did it, he ran away. He couldn't kill in cold blood.
As he was thinking about killing in cold blood, his thoughs drifted towards Sheila. How dare Shadow kill Sheila?! RSF was quite right, seeking revenge. There was only one thing to do. He would have to go kill Shadow.
Then another thought entered his mind. He said it himself, to RSF, "You're as bad as Shadow!" If he did it, he would be just as bad, also. He realized if he fought fire with fire, the world would go up in flames.
As a new feeling of hopelessness washed over the magog, he though of something his mother once said. That lifted his spirits slightly. "Deimos, don't forget that you have ice, too."
There was nothing against it. Fight fire with ice, yes, that made sense. Determined, he ran after Dingo.

Mighty Mage:  Hmm, I wonder where RSF went off to.  He seems to hang around this cave an awful lot.  Maybe he knows something about this.

After hours of running and finding his way around, RSF has decided that he has no clue where he is. So he decides to leave things behind him as landmarks, so he will know if he is running in circles. After a few minutes he comes across one of the objects he left on the ground. RSF smiles at his small achievement. Perhaps now he can begin to aquaint himself with this area of the caves. After several more minutes, RSF has gone back and forth and realizes that the tunnels are interconnected very intricately like a spider web. It would be very difficult to actually go in a straight direction without being familiar with the tunnels.

RSF pulls some more pulls out powder, the same powder he used in the Chaos Labyrinth. This time he wanted to know if anyone was near or following him. At each intersection between tunnels he left some powder on the floor. If anyone walked over it, footprints would be left behind and he would be able to find out who it was. RSF was hoping to find Dingo rather than Vadskye, MightyMage, or Deimos.

RSF took a few minutes to acquaint himself with more tunnels. Realizing that this could be a bit dangerous, RSF decided to take off his shoes and wrap his feet in cloth, thus making his footsteps quieter than the loud boots he was wearing earlier. As he was about to head out again, he heard footsteps coming. They became louder and louder, but then got quieter again. Apparently someone had been walking down a tunnel towards him and then turned off at one of the many intersections.

RSF went into super fast speed and tip-toed as quiet as he could to one of the intersections. He came to an intersection with 4 different paths. It was difficult to determine which one it was and the sound was almost gone. Before he could figure out where it was from the sound disapeered, so RSF stomped a few times on the floor making it sound like he was running and he listened. He heard footsteps again coming down one of the tunnels. They became quieter after a few moments. That's someone running away. It must be Dingo. Anyone else would have ran after the noise.

RSF sprints down the tunnel leading to the running footsteps. He gets to an intersection and stops to find the direction of the footsteps again. However, when he's about to locate them again, another set of footsteps starts coming from another tunnel. Now the footsteps are echoing from nearly all directions.

RSF: (to himself) - "This is not good. A battle is not good. I will have to kill everyone or escape from everyone as well as make sure both Dingo and I are alive."

He sighs and sprints down a tunnel.

Woock jogs into an intersection and stops for a breather. He could have sworn he heard a very faint humming (created by ultra fast tip-toeing) which obviously meant RSF in the vicinity. But there was noone within sight. After a moment, Vadskye runs in. "Any luck?" the wizard asked. "Nope, but I know what will help us find him. Step into a tunnel please", and Vadskye did as was expected of him. Woock stepped aside too and then made a big sticky blot of spam in the intersection of the tunnels. "I hope you can jump over those, because I want to set up as many of those traps as possible". Vadskye nodded, and they both set off in opposite directions.

RSF heard several voices now echoing from every direction. Footsteps were coming from everywhere. He couldn't do much about this, so he decided to make sure he was careful coming into the intersections.

After about 20 minutes of finding nothing except more echoes. RSF gets tired of waiting and decides to sprint full speed through every tunnel and tackle to first person he sees. He sprints through tunnel after tunnel and falls flat on his face.

He's covered in spam. Footsteps start coming from down the hall. RSF scrambles to get free and clean himself off. Luckily, for him, the footsteps get quieter and fade away into the mind-numbing echoes. Fortunately, RSF is able to get most of the spam off of him and he sprints down after another echo. RSF falls flat on to his face again stuck in spam. He curses out loud. Several footsteps come running.

RSF gets to his feet fairly quickly and runs down a silent tunnel. The spam is beginning to slow down RSF. He reaches another tunnel, this time slowing down to find another pile of spam. He hops over it runs down another tunnel. After a few more intersection, RSF hears an odd noise. It's difficult to know what the sound was exactly because of the echoing, but he heads after it anyway. After reaching the end of the tunnel, he sees Dingo lying face down in a pile of spam with a carcass on his back. It is a good thing RSF found him first. RSF begins picking up large chunks of spam and bringing them down the tunnels leading to Dingo. He splatters the spam all over the ground and sets up some trick wires as well. He should have thought of using spam earlier to assist him with his trap making.

RSF had little time, so he made the job quick. RSF would do the sacrifice right here, right now. He helped Dingo out of the spam and began setting up the area for casting the spell. Before they could start, a splat came from one of the tunnels.

RSF: "Yes the trap worked. Come with me Dingo. I'm gonna need you to hypnotize him."

*Struggling against the mounds of spam comering him, Mighty Mage tries to stop this horrible fate.  How could this have happened?  One second he's trying to find RSF so he can get out of this neverending death trap, the next he's trapped in spam and about to be hypnotized by Dingo.  Did he really come upon somthing he shouldn't have?  He must think fast.  Only one way to get out of this now.*

Mighty Mage:  WAIT!  Wait...Please.

RedSoxFan:  Do it Dingo.  Slap the little bastard.

Dingo:  Are you sure?

RedSoxFan:  Are you questioning me?

Dingo:  Well...no, I guess not.

Mighty Mage:  Yes, yes, he's questioning you.  Stop.  Dingo, don't do this.  It's me, Mighty Mage.  You don't want to hypnotize me.

Dingo:  Why not?  I don't know you that well.

Mighty Mage:  Awwwww come on.  What could I possibly do for you.  I'm useless.  Really.  My magic isn't all its cracked up to be.

RedSoxFan:  That's why you'd make such a good sacrifise.  No one would miss you much.  Except for Woock maybe.  We have plans for him though.

Dingo:  We do?

RedSoxFan:  Yes.  Now hypnotize him.

*What will Mighty Mage do.  Talking to them didn't work.  I only he could get his hands free.  Then he could whip up some magic and blast a hole in the wall.  Will he be sacrificed?  Only time can tell...somthing RSF has plenty of.*

Though I must still bow
in awe for the awesomeness that is
MightyMage.  For he is all I could ever
want to be!
