First, yes I am 14 yrs old, do u have a problem with that? Second, I dont think you even read the topic about the Yamato and Egyptian town, because i didnt mean a town like in AOE (Which is a great game), but I ment the mythical creatures of these cultures! A mech and tech town sucks! I want realisticly looking monsters, not cartoonish and especially not ones that look like toys (Golem on wheels with hammer hands)!

14 is just fine  Posted 3-16-2001 19:26

I'm pushing 40 and I don't think being 14 is a problem at all! I think that were talking about new ideas for the game.
I think that they don't have anything to offer but OLD ideas. Let them go back to throwing dice if they want true D&D.
For me I believe that we are talking MIGHT & MAGIC computer game not ONLY D&D. I think that you can vary the game beyond D&D.
NO laser, or Robots, but the discussion on this topic was not going this way anyway.
I like D&D games as well but I want other types of games and this is my favorite because is not so restrictive to D&D rules.

Hey Mystery,
Did you just say that the idea of a Factory town idea was stupid???? The idea of a low technology town isn't stupid. All right I may see what you mean but, don't you think it is time to move ahead? Take it to a bit higher step? If you don't want technology then what about war machines? They are low technology and nobody complains. Then what is your problem? Then you can practicly forget golems from the game. Golems are made in a factory, forgot? So what is the harm of a little technology. Anyway the Egyptian mythonolgical creature town would work out. So what dou YOU think?

No problem  Posted 3-17-2001 19:27

I'm not against the tech! I would even like to a have
tech in H4, BUT, if all of the tech would be in one
town, that would harm the balance, Golems should be
distributed between the towns for example. Second, you
have suggested units that look like toys: a golem on
wheels with hammer hands, it maybe effective in battle
but it looks ugly, if u want tech then think of nice
looking units: Crystal dragons, chariots (invention of
wheel), canons on ships (inter-ship battle, with
boarding bridge for units), maybe even shotguns in the
yamato castle (the Japanese were the first to invent
explosives and gunpowder), maybe [primitive] grenades
(Yamato), and more...

Tech Would Be Okay In HOMM4

Tech would be okay in HOMM4, but it would be bad to have to much tech. The Forge was a bit of a stretch. I think that a Factory Town With Magically Animated Creatures.

Ok rather than going for metal creatures and guns id rather they went with more natural type of creatures. Using some of the dangerous creatures we have to base ideas on like spiders, scorpions, lions, elephants, snakes(spitting cobras),boars and crocodiles.

Have you stopped laughing yet?
ok ill continue.....

Id also like the oceans to be more dangerous and to even be a special town to defend oceans these would have there own creatures things like giant squids sharks whales harpies giant crabs and maybe Neptune as there top town group. These would be computer contoled always and can only travel round in the ocean. These would be there to make the sea alot less safe place as they are able to attack the sides of boats. Also on the ocean there could be pirates on ships made up of creatures from different towns that are able to move around the sea with out having a castle at all. These would attack heroes but in stead of killing them if they win they keep them and you would have to visit a place of land to pay to get them back.
Ok thats my ideas your all welcome to attack and rip them to pieces now  Thank You

I still vote against a Tech town, or even a slightly higher level of tech spread evenly across the map. I have nothing against a magical way of accomplishing the same thing (golems vs. cyborgs), but I think that the feel of the game would change if you went with a tech explanation. I remember that H2 had a very mystical feel. H3 has a much more heroic one. Other tech-levels aren't bad or boring... I just don't think they're appropriate for the mood in the world of Heroes; I can get them elsewhere. The mood that I find in Heroes, I can't get anywhere else.
~O~
Of course, there are cases where the technology is as fantastic as magic: SciFi. I've already explained why I'm against that level of technology.
~O~
I like the idea of Pirates or possibly a Pirate Cove (combination of Prison and weakened Dragon Utopia but on water).
~O~
The idea of a Water town would take some work... it was discussed a while back, but I think it could work eventually. The most workable suggestion was the 4-in-1 Conflux idea.
~O~
As for making the ocean dangerous, I agree that it generally isn't; there aren't as many creatures that can be realistically placed on water, and choke points are harder to arrange naturally. The only map I've ever played that made the water truly interesting was called "Happy Time Dragons." It used a lot of events that would pop up with a bunch of Water and Storm Mentals with the message "The Storm has risen, prepare yourself!" Since events are invisible, the water was fairly dangerous for low-level heroes. In short, there are ways of doing it, but most map makers and the random map generator don't.
~O~
But it would be nice to see more options available, too.

Yeah, I agree with AncientOne, the tech would take the fun out of the game.

Mech.

Ok, first of all Mystery you have been all along against the idea of the mech. town. I remeber from the old heroes community. I know that I allready said this, but I think low mech. would be ok. I know the idea of zombies with chain-saws is dumb. I say low mech is ok.

As opposed to most replyers, I think that a mech. town would be a wonderful idea under 1 condition- that the fantastic spirit of the games not be undermined.  If anybody has ever played Final Fantasy 3, is looking forward to Arkanum (the pc game), or has read any of the Magic the Gathering novels, you will see that mechanics (NOT ELECTRONICS) can even magnify the deapth of a fantasy universe.  Steam, gears, pistons and the like would make a fine base for a type of town as long as the fantastic/mideavel aspect not be overlooked.  Just remember- there WERE guns in late Mideavel Europe...it's just that they were about as effective as tring to cut down a tree with a herring.

Okay okay

I agree with beerbelly that some technology could enhance the game but let's make it reasonable. No lasers or chainsaws or snow like that. Guns can be put into this game without much trouble too (perfect with the samurai/orient town). Also it would be great having cannons in ship to ship or ship to land battles (i still think ships should act more like a castle) or more useful war machines like battering rams and archer towers. Let's keep this game mythical and fantastic.

Partially agree.

I agree with MECH (not TECH!) being in HOMM at the war machine and castle defense level, but I dont want the mech to be among the units, golems and gargoyles are enough mech in units, I don't need any other mech units.

                    Starting spell: none
                    Starting secondary skills: armourer, leadership
                    Starting primary skills: A:1 D:3 SP:1 K:1

Leading the golems?

I don't think the heroes of the mech town will need leadership. It is supposed that mech creatures have not morale.

They are not undead, right? So why not let them have morale. They are concious so they still can have some sort of a morale.
