lame interpretation

I had never thought about this lame interpretation of LOTR. But I don't think, for mythril, that Tolkien was thinking about modern methods for the extraction of metal. K just think it s part of the charm of the book, every races have their own qualities, and also, there are things much more magnificient than in our real world. In the reality for example, there is no race as perfect as the elves are. But everyone can interprete it as he wants!
And I agree with you Gerdash, it's not because other games have technology that heroes 4 must have technology.

I can't believe you people would object to the forge town. Any who's played Might and Magic 1, 2, and 3 knows that technology is in the backbone of the entire MM story! Everybody in MM is decendent from the people on an alien ship that crashed on the planet thousands of years ago. Anyone who's played Might and Magic knows that the oracle is just a supercomputer and importance of futuristic technology in the game.

The forge is a relic of the alien technology that created the magical artifacts in the game. Without the forge, there is absolutely no explanation of how the artifacts came into existance. The only reason that 3DO took the forge out was because ignorant and immature idiots sent death threats to the company. Personally, I think 3DO should have locked them in jail instead of giving in to their demands. 3DO is the only company I know that even bothers to reply to every single fan mail they get so don't threaten them!

Now because the forge was taken out, the Heroes storyline doesn't follow the Might and Magic storyline. You people did not design the original story and I don't think it's fair that you should shift the whole plot just because you can't picture magic and technology getting along!

And don't tell me that Heroes and MM are two different worlds, they're not.  The Heroes storylines has followed exactly with the MM storyline and I don't care if there are some miniscule contradictions between the two.

I think the problem is more that The heroes series has a huge following of many people who have never played the M&M series, and don't care how much justification there is for a high tech town. To them, heroes is a fantasy game and for obvious reasons they don't want guns, cyborgs, and rocket launchers in their fantasy world.

I was quite open minded to the forge town, but in retrospect I'm happy it went away. I would have been quite happy with a town that had fantasy technology, ie gnomish machines, clockwork monsters, steam powered war machines, etc. But the forge town just seemed a little too jarring in a fantasy world. I also had serious problems with the fact that goblins armed with machine guns were no more effective then goblins armed with clubs (because they were both lvl 1 units). What's the point of high tech weaponry if it doesn't make you more powerful? Why are all of these creatures flocking to the forge to be enhanced if they end up no more powerful then they were before (all the forge creatures were the same lvl as the creatures they were based on before modifications).

The final problem is that the forge really isn't even in character for the M&M world. M&M did have technology, but it was extremely rare. Finding it was a unique and unusual experience. It was so rare as to make magic look common and everyday. There certainly was never enough technology to equip an entire nation to plot a takeover of the world. If technology ever got that common, there would be no turning back. Even after the forge was defeated, Heroes would have turned into a sci-fi world with everyone throwing away their guns and using guns and tanks instead.

Crimson, that was selfish of yours

Excuse me, miss, but try to pass this BH to someone else. Tell, have you ever looked at the balance of 3do? Do you know why Zoop left? Do you know who Zoop is at all? How about Ribannah? How about Vori?

It's easy to say to Zoop, satisfy ME. Queen Amidala tried that way too. Bah.

If you think you know enough to put this statement here, we can make a little quiz... So, don't teach your father how to make children. Or accountants how to make money. Or NWC how to make games.

Period.

Milena u r saying 3do doesn't need to be taught.Ok.
Btw i now what Vori is.I don't know what Zoop and blah blah are but i can guess what they are.
3do needs to be taught and that's why we are talking here.
That's why this forums are all about.
And when narrow minded guys can teach 3do and force them to abandon the "forge" idea (i don't like it too, but i want a mech town) why can't we teach them anything ?

You want magic? Play Heroes. You want technology? Go play Total Annihilation. You want good mixture of magic and technology? Go play starcraft. All three of these games present an excellence in their category of worlds. That is the way it works, and Heroes leads the way with an excellence in mythology and magic (no technology) Let's keep it that way.

To each gaming world their own ideas!

You got that right Darion!

Good post! I also think the mechanical units must be removed from the game. The only thing that could be possible, is an gnome inside a mechanic(like) machine. Like an copter or whatever. But mechanic dragons are stupid.
And they can be easily be replaced by crystal/diamond dragons.
I think everybody would love that!
But no.. NWC likes to be against the fans opinions.
They know everybody dislikes the Mechanic reptile. But they just not drop it!

Now you got me

Have to give you a piece of my mind and an example how things are in 3do.

And in the gaming world overall.

Rule #1. Go to the 3do site. WE ARE HERE TO PLAY GAMES. So, we need people to play games.
Rule #2. 3do isn't there for fun. It's to make money. ANd money comes from fans. Satisfied fans. Give them a product them like, they will buy it, more money for 3do, more games, more happy fans. More happy fans, more money. ALL for the money.
Rule #3.3do is more about gold than anyone else.
Rule #4. The majority wins. The majority wanted the Forge out, so it was out
Rule #5. Listen to the elders. Now, *I* am an elder. Not here, here I'm a newbie. But I know about the mm world more than all of you here allied. And when I tell you i know this, I know about the MM fans more than you do. And I can tell you, the aliens were the most unwanted part. In mm8 this idea was removed by the Conflux, so Crimson is not right. We dealt with the mashines, the driods in MM7, my fav game and now the natural thing to follow was the Conflux. Just play the game twice, open your eyes and you will know.

As for Ribannah, maybe I should tell you who she is. First, she is a Sister, one of us , and first of all, the best MMer ever lived. She's the creator of vori and half of her mm8 is hers. So, if you don't like the Conflux and it was brought, go sue her and me too. Because I think the Forge would have disappointed the fans and would have brought more pain to NWC than this little useless thread here. And trust me, the game makers care little about the game as long as the majority of fans is happy.

And the cash is coming too.

Where do you come from? CHina?

I'm asking you this, because we live in democracy here and in democracy the mob rules.

And no, I'm not working for 3do. And I never will. But I will tell you one thing. If Vori appears in mm9, this will be because of me.

I have no problems with 3DO making money. I have a problem with people refusing to accept technology in the game without even waiting to see what it's like! It's the arrogance of those people that keep open-minded people from ever knowing what it would be like in the Heroes. If you try it and you don't like it, then complain. I am not going to give respect arrogant whiners who don't even wait to play the game with the forge first before they start snowing about it.

People who complain that technology in the game doesn't make sense are idiots. Does magic make sense? Do the fact that a giant crystal can even move make sense? NO! That's why it's called a FANTASY!!! If you want things to make sense, don't play any games and go take a science course. I admit I had my doubts about futuristic technology in Heroes, but it really pissed me off when people started protesting before the Shadows of Death even came out. There's magic and technology in starcraft do you hear people complaining? NO! I hate conservatives! I don't want Heroes to get stuck in the dark ages just because some people don't want to try new things.

I'm getting frustrated now

My whole 4 points summed up here

1. Heroes and MM are one game in 2 shapes. There are like air and vacuum, one following the other. the Conflux was there in mm, why can't it be in the ****ing Heroes??
2. I never said I don't like mechanic stuff. In fact I was among the first at all (and few) on the MM boards to defend the driods. Go figure who they are. I don't like blasters simply because I like other weapons but they are OK as an idea. However, crying over spillt milk is pure BS.
3. The whole idea may fit the MM plot but not the Heroes. One game is enough with the theme. It's not like a cash bankomat- go make one and the same thing with one matrix. things had to be thought over.
4. The games are for fans. Not for creators. These guys get cash and as long as they do it, they have to have in mind the mob's likes. I am to defend the aliens but I haven't seen enough of the forge. Pure truth is I like the Conflux and enjoy it enough to ask others to leave the forge in peace.

It's all over with it, why is this thing? As long as cash makes the games, not NWC, what will make more people buy the games counts. I think every sane person will agree on that.

Do you?

Crimson,

It's not a matter of technology not making sense, it's a matter of it not being consistent with previous heroes games, and the world it takes place in. It's not even consistent with previous M&M games where technology is extremely rare.

Before you call people idiots you should seriously examine your own posts, otherwise people will not take you seriously. Consistancy is very important in books, movies, computer games, etc. Even in a fantasy world things make sense within the confines of the world that they are in. In a world where magic is possible, it makes perfect sense for a crystal to be able to fly if properly enchanted. However in a world where technology is very rare, it does not make any sense for giant armies to form using high tech weaponry, nor does it make sense for machine guns to be no more powerful then clubs with pointy nails in them. Claiming "this is a fantasy world, it doesn't mother if things are illogical and stupid" doesn't quite cut it. Even fantasy worlds have their own rules.

Finaly I don't know where you get off bring politics into this and calling the people who are against this conservatives, and attacking them for it. I can't speak for others, but I'm certainly not and I doubt the majority of the people here are. So please leave politics out of this, once again it just makes people not take you seriously.

Fine, I won't bother bringing politics back into the post. Anyways, I never said I hated the Conflux, it's fine. I'm not saying they should put the forge back in SOD. My whole point is that people should try something before complaining. I'll just stop here before someone misinterprets what I'm trying to say.

Fair enough, at the time I thought the violent reaction to the forge was unreasonable as well, considering the game hadn't actualy come out yet. On the other hand, this isn't like something you can just try out and just take back. If the forge came out and everyone hated it, they would be stuck with it. It kind of makes me wonder if the violent apocolypse that destroyed the world and begins H4 was originaly supposed to be something along the lines of a nuclear bomb, or nuclear war. Somehow I don't think that would have gone over well either.

But in general I agree, people need to be more open minded. But every once in awhile a change is proposed that your just violently against. Like imagine that you really loved the first lord of the rings movie, and then somebody said the next episode of it was going to be an animated musical comedy. If you had the ability to make them go back and change things, do you really think you'd decide to just and wait and see how good the movie would be?

And yes I know that's a really lame anology.

Zombies with flamethrowers?
Naga tanks?
I think 3do was drunk! I'm glad they realized it quickly enough! And cut them from the game! Forge? 3do can do much better.
And after all. It's not C&C(Command and Conquer)
