In order to encourage ANY player to accept challengies...

.... i think it could be a good idea to change ,just a bit, the pointing system like this :

each win gets the TOH previous calculation points as shown on General info from toh page ( Rn=Ro + 30 +0.05*(D) PLUS 10 extra points.

for loss it will be Rn=[Ro - (20 + 0.05*(D)] MINUS 5 extra points.

This way, ANY player will have a better "reason" , besides the pleasure, to play/accept challengies, and could improve number of games and their quality,  because THAT

"Anyway, if I'm gonna lose, I'll lose nothing, so let's play, I don't care if my performance will be maximized or not (having nothing to lose)"

will take place more and more seldom.

I know it could be a fundamental change, it's only my suggestion, for which i'm asking you if it's decent or not.

have a nice day

when players don't play for a while, or are bored, they start to philosophize with great ideas.  Focus on homm5 for those great ideas.  And lets see a conclusion to this season soon.

I agree with ZUD.  The formula is fine.

I cant speak for everyone, but from my own point of view, one of the major reasons I have always strayed clear of playing certain stronger players was mainly there refusal to play any map besides the maps they are strongest on.  i.e. Those strong players claim to fame was playing Circle for Life 42 times and now they are emperor..And when they are begging for games they only want to play Circle for life ( <-- strictly an example)

Now granted it is no secret that Lost in SPace is my favorite map and yes I have played it a whopping 14 times.  But record on it is 3/11.  So not that outrageous for me to want to play the map until I can acquire a few wins on it lol...

Back to my point...   Teacher and all other Lords and Emperors, if you are now starving for games and want people to play you, I would suggest that you, accept what ever maps the lower ranked player wants. After all if you are as good as you claim then you should beable to succeed on ANY map. Plus a weaker ranked player being able to play a map they are more comfortable with might entice them to give ya a try.

And another side note:  When the season resets it will be even harder for players like Teacher to get games since they will have a score of 1000 points.  Before if I played them and lost I would lose nothing.  Now if I play them and lose I will lose 20 pts. So the ONLY thing that would even come close to making me accept a game with them would be if I got to choose the playing field. Even tho it may not be much of a disadvantage, it is better then nothing.

"I won't lose anything if I lose " attitude

That is exactly Teacher's point though, he gets nothing for playing, and loses a ton if he does not win

And... those players who Lose absolutely NOTHING for playing, and if they manage to win they get 50+ points... why on earth would they be the ones choosing their favorite map?

+ there might be lower ranked "twinks/doubles" out there...

I understand Teacher's view, and somewhat agree with him. There should Always be a Loss Penalty, but the point addition to wins is not needed.

(So I agree with 50% of his formula?)

Hmm Teacher has like 2185 points and is the #1 ranked player in TOH.  Why would points matter to him??  SOunded to me, like teacher just wanted people to play him!  Is he really concerned weather he gets a win and gains a few points??  2185 or 10,000 doesnt matter he is #1, so give it a rest. If he loses to a legionaire then he DESERVES to lose 50+ points etc. And the formula was specifically designed so that once a player reaches a certain level he is almost forced to play within his experience level. i.e. Emperors playing lords or other emperors etc. If not for this formula Teacher would be gaining 30 points for beating up any squire he wanted all day long and would have 10,000 points. lol.

Bottom line, is if you dont want to be alienated to the point noone will play you then dont make a run for #1

Why do you think I purposely lost to Zud 18/22 games, hehe, I dont want to be #1

who are you talking about , ves ?

first, it was a simple suggestion, i'm not beating you to accept it, and definetely it wasn't my ultimate desire to   label it as a "great idea", and
second , it was mine. this is not fitting with "bored" or "not playing for a while" , i think.

PLS, REMOVE THE POST .

teacher suggestion has a point, with activity as it is now..
if activity were x3-x4 times as now, there wouldnt be problem finding players of your same rank/pts to play with..
.. for points to worth and game be more challenging for both

No offense but again I ask what does he need point for?  He is #1 and noone is even close to him!  Maybe I am missing something. Zud is emperor and he has NO trouble finding a game.

The whole point of the tourny and points system is to work your way to #1.  Once you are there, then you have succeeded. Congrats. Until season resets sit back relax, play games for the joy of playing and have fun.  Is there some secret prize for being #1 and hitting a certain point total? Somebody enlighten me

I think that the formula should evolve as a function of the rank one has, i.e.

                Win         Lose
Recruit          +20         -10
Footman          +15         -10
Squire           +15         -5
Baron            +10         -5
Legionnaire      +10         -5
Lord             +10         -5
Emperor          +10         -5

Something along those lines....

I hope my previous post makes sense.....the first number is bonus for a win, and the second number is a penalty for losing.

I think that high-level players should gain little for defeating begginers, just to prevent newbie bashing.

However, some kind of award for accepting challanges would be nice. Playing random maps and random towns could fall into same category. And the award itself should be called "Fearless".

Hmm, I'm not sure but it may already exist in TOH.

Where did this myth of high ranking players expoiting the system to play newbies and build their points come from? As a footman with a bit of experience I find that the opposite is the case.  I cannot get a game with anyone ranked higher because they are all scared of LOSING points.  I would be happy to play Teacher or anyone Squire+ for the experience, but they wont play.

Karim is on the right track - a fair system might be two points for a win and one point for a loss - no matter who you play.  That way even the number one player is available to play with everyone, but at the same time his score is not an unreachable goal.

Once a player has reached certain targets eg between 26 to 50 points, 51 to 75 etc then there could be tournaments  for those who only want to play people around their own level.

The current system isolates everyone into enclaves much too quickly.  Emperors and lords wont play legionnaires, they wont play barons, barons wont play squires etc etc.

Hey dont just say no - think about it. Its supposed to be a community of players for fun.
