New idea for heroes on/off battlefield

So here's my idea:
all heroes are required to participate on the battlefield (taking the place of a creature stack) until they have completed a mini-quest, or something of that nature to gain their hero status.
This means they start out as a paige or something, then have to prove their worthiness.
Their attributes do not affect other creatures in their group and they cannot recruit other paiges until they have achieved hero status.
Once they have achieved hero status they now take the (H3 for instance) role of the army leader.
A general would also be a good idea - I think... maybe.
A general would not be allowed to explore the map but would be an option for one of your heroes to be placed in a castle and can command from a tower or something (Obviously, they would have to earn this status as well and the town would have to be built to a degree that would allow a general).  This would allow him/her to command other heroes/paiges and all creatures in the army and also add their attributes to others in the same battlefield.  General would maybe carry a special "super skill" that affects all of their troops/heroes/paiges.
Having a general would also maybe give a slight bonus to: morale, attack skill, spell power, etc. (depending on the alignment - or "super skill") of all creatures, heroes, in your army over the entire map.
Crazy? maybe.  perhaps Veldarian could shed some light on this - what's up mo fugger?

maybe only slightly related to your idea of a paige.. the creature exp topic comes to mind.. what if creature exp would not be realted to creature upgrade, but the possibility to recruit a creature from a stack as a hero.
