Halfling: You will get your payment when I get mine. I have given you an antidote and you accuse me of this. Take this back or the deal is off.

Sephiroth: (aside to party) I think I could probably fit in that hole.

RSF: But it looks like you'll have to crawl quite a bit. Do dwarves crawl?

Sephiroth: "Huh?"

Vadskye: "There is a legendary weapon called the Spider's Bane hidden away in these caves.  Perhaps we could take that to confront this spider?  After all, it sounds pretty strong."

OOC: this weapon was in Baldur's Gate.  Thought I could bring it in here without to much trouble considering we're using the Baldur's Gate rules.  It prevented the wielder from being held, like with webs, and had bonus damage to spiders.

See we're trying to get into the mines, so having a sword to help us kill the spider would be like walking around the ocean instead of getting in a boat and sailing straight across. Sephiroth is the only one who might fit in there and if he's going in he'll get the crystal, so we won't have to fight the spider.

I can guess you aren't a master thief I suppose. That place is full of booby-traps. You are much heavier than a halfling being that you are a dwarf. So you will be able to set off those stress plates by just standing on them, but a normal halfling could jump up and down and nothing would happen."

Sephiroth: "You're bluffing you little hobbit."

Having stood by too long and watched the other members of his party be bossed around by this halfling, Mordikai finally stepped forward after seeing the little twit's last brash remarks to his friend. The ranger stepped forward, unsheathed his longsword, and blocked the halfling's way back into the town.

"I suggest you go back into those mines right now and fetch us some crystal, or I will kill you and leave your carcass to this rampaging spider you speak of." He smacked the hobbit with the side of his blade. "And don't ever speak to a dwarf in such a condescending tone ever again. Sephiroth is twice the fighter you'll ever be, and I don't mean that in relation to only size."

Maximus stepped forward and intervened. "Mordikai, all this halfling was doing was asking for a favor from us in exchange for doing us a favor that nobody," he glanced at Sephiroth, "in our ranks could possibly achieve. Don't attack him for not letting your friend go along with him. Such an act would be villianous, to say the least, and I won't let any wanted man travel with this group."

Mordikai scowled, and sheathed his sword while walking away from the group. He had to gather his thoughts and cool his temper. This strength in numbers was vital to his and Sephiroth's successes in the hunt for gold so far, so he would just have to calm down and listen to Maximus, At least for now.

Islidur was listning carefully. He sensed Mordikai's anger and went over to talk to him.

Isildur: Mordikai, calm down. I know that you are mad about that little stuckup hobbit talking to Sephiroth like that, trust me we all feel the same but we must keep our cool if we are to get some of that nice crystal. Come on, we are rangers, skilled swordsmen and scouts. You shouldnt be intimidated or annoyed so easily by such a little man. Now lets just be cool, go kill this spider and get our crystal. Remember, the faster we kill the spider, the faster we get our crystal. The faster we get our crystal the faster we can get our weapons and kill the mage.

Mordikai weighed his options in dealing with his fellow ranger. He could either try and convince Isildur that he was right to barrage the little halfling or he could pretend to be calmed. It didn't take much thought to decide.

Arising, he said, "I'm fine, I just needed to cool off for a while. No big deal, right?" He began to walk back torward the group, but turned back to the still seated Isildur and motioned for him to come on, saying in a convincing voice, "This spider will not be a problem to warriors of our calibur. Now come, let's hunt some spider."

Maximus: "Good we finally made a decision around here. Now let's go get this spider. Wait up, Halfling. You're going to come with us. If you don't the deal is off."

Sephiroth: "Oh no the deal is still on. If you don't come with us, we're gonna make you come."

And so the arachniphobic man agreed to the party's terms, not that it mattered.

Well here it is. Hope you like it.

The hobbit points with his stubby finger to where his house was. He said it was near the hill, just outside the village. Just as he said there was the hill. It was big and there were no houses around it. The hill was a lush green with a small apple tree on top.

Hobbit: If you find anything in my house that could aid you feel free to take it.
Isildur: Well there is the hill but I cannot see any houses.
Maximus: Perhaps the house is behind the hill?
Isildur: You could be right; we will cut through the town.

The party walked through the town feeling like giants compared to all the little hobbits walking around. Even Sephiroth looked big when compared to the young hobbits. Without a doubt every hobbit they walked past gave them a look. Not just any look, it was a look that seemed to eat right through you. One of the hobbits gathered his courage and came to talk to Maximus.

Hobbit: Are you going to Modo’s house?
Maximus: Who is Modo?
Hobbit: Oh he is the richest hobbit in our village! But he has a spider problem at the moment.
Maximus: Oh yes we are going there, to take care of his problem to be exact.
Hobbit: You are going to fight the spider???
Maximus: That’s the plan.
Hobbit: Oh my…

A look of fear came over the hobbits face, he almost turned white. He ran off and told the other hobbits what he had been told. Suddenly that look that ate your insides turned into a look of fear. The hobbits were scared, scared of an evil power that lurked inside Modo’s house. The group had no idea… They continued along the path, now more curious than ever. Finally they arrived at the hill. They ran around to the other side and were hit with shock so huge it left them speechless.

Isildur: Oh my lord… It’s huge!!!
Sephiroth: Indeed, although the craftsmanship lacks the quality of structure made by a dwarf!

And huge it was. The hobbits house was bigger than most large human houses. It had a large garden at the front with many exotic flowers, fruits and shrubs. The backyard was like a massive field of grass, surrounded by a thick line of the most beautiful trees you would ever see. In the middle of the field was a single tree; its branches spread far, shading a lot of the ground. Under the tree was a wooden bench. Isildur couldn’t help looking through the flowers and fruits and his curiosity payed off. Isildur found a small shrub, covered in a special flower that when applied to a wound or eaten, cures poison. (Party acquires 6 poison cures.) After admiring the scenery everyone decides to enter the mansion. The inside was as beautiful as the outside. As soon as you walk in you see a massive staircase leading to a second floor. The staircase was covered in a velvet rug from top to bottom. The rails were timber with gold marking all the way up. On the first floor there were three doors to the left and four to the right. One door on the left was already open, revealing a large bathroom containing a large spa, shower, and full length mirror. No spider though.

Isildur: I suggest we split up, there is no way we can search this place as a group. It would take us days!
Maximus: No! We will not split up. As a group we are strong bur alone we a vulnerable. It would not be safe.
Isildur: No, not alone, in pairs. Mordikai and Sephiroth will be group one, Maximus and Vadskye will be group two. I shall go alone.
Maximus: Alone? Are you mad?
Isildur: Don’t worry if I get into trouble I will call.
Maximus: Hmmm, very well but if anyone gets in trouble no heroic acts! Call for help straight away!

And with that the group each went their separate ways. Mordikai and Sephiroth went to the left side of the main room, Maximus and Vadskye took the right. Isildur decides to go upstairs. Isildur walks quickly but carefully up the stairs. Once he reached the top he looked around, making sure to take everything in. There were only two doors up here, one on the left and the other on the right. He decided to take the left door first. While he was walking he saw a shadow pass him.

Isildur: Yelling Hey guys did you see that?
Vadskye: See what?
Isildur: Oh nothing.

Isildur turned the golden knob of the door. Behind the solid timber door was the hobbits master bedroom. His king sized bed was big enough for 20 hobbits! The tiger rug on his floor was over looked by a large self-portrait of Modo. After thoroughly searching the bedroom Isildur found only half done poems and a dagger. (Party acquires a dagger.) After finding nothing of interest Isildur moves to the other room. Inside is a recreation room with a giant couch, a fire place and 3 card tables. Towards the back of the room is a bar covered in a spider’s silky web. After searching this room Isildur only finds some rubbing alcohol. (Party acquires rubbing alcohol.) Isildur returns to the main hall to find his friends standing there.

Isildur: Did you find anything of interest? Any traces of spider?
Maximus: No, only some spider webs and this food.
Mordikai: Nothing here, only some potions in his bathroom.

(Party acquires 3x Bread and 2x potion)

Isildur: Well the only thing of interest that I found was this dagger, rubbing alcohol and a recreation room.

All: Recreation room???
Isildur: First door on the right.

The other members go upstairs to play some cards and relax. Isildur stays in the main room though to think about the day.

Isildur: We came all this way for nothing but spider webs. I can’t believe that hob…

The same shadow that Isildur was earlier went past his feet with lightning speed. Isildur froze in fear but pulled himself together. He looked around but again saw nothing.

Isildur: Who’s there? Show yourselves!

Isildur saw the shadow again, this time right around him. He looked up to see the hugest spider he had ever seen crawling on the roof. The spider dropped down, attempting to crush Isildur. With quick movement Isildur jumped out the way. The spider turned to face him, his large fangs secreting venom. The hobbits house was huge and the rest of the party were playing cards and sleeping, they would not hear his cries for help. He would just have to fight some of this battle alone. Maximus was carrying all the items as well so he would have to fight without any help at all.

OOC: Ok RSF, I need you to dice roll for me. Let me fight some of the battle myself until I am desperately in need of help.
