The Saga of Glade River Valley - OOC

Please do not be a afraid of the length of this post. It is mostly just lists of weapons, items, armor, etc.

This is a battle game based on the rules shown here. Then go to AD&D Rules FAQ under In-Depth FAQ's.

Note: At this website, I would read the part about Thac0 and armor class. If you're a mage or cleric, then I would read the part about wisdom and intelligence as well. I have provided how the weapon proficiencies effect Thac0 and also how charism works in this game. I would read that part and the part about characters. This lists of items aren't important right now anyway.

Here is where you will create your character. You will also be given choices as you level up. Any questions will also be posted here.

This post is an information database for our game. I have a list of weapons, armor, monsters, and explanations as to how certain stats will work. This also contains one town currently containing buildings to visit. The more you explore the more you’ll find.

Creating Your Character:

Everyone must choose the following for their character:

Race: Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Dwarf, Halfling

Gender: Male, Female

Class: Fighter, Cleric, Thief, Mage, Ranger, Paladin, Bard, Druid

Weapon Proficiencies: Missile, Piercing, Short Sword, Long Sword, Spiked, Axe, Blunt

Statistics:

Everyone will be given a roll of 78.

Strength - Increases THAC0 when using non-missile weapons
Dexterity - Increases armor class, speed, and THAC0 when using missile weapons
Intelligence - Increases the effectiveness of Mage Spells
Wisdom - Increases the effectiveness of Priest Spells
Constitution - Increases hit points, toughness
Charm - Lowers the cost of purchases

(For Mages, Clerics, and Druids)
Each character copies 3 Level 1 spells into spell book at the creation of the character. Druids can choose from some of the priest spells.

A Further Explanation to Statistics:

Each character has several stats. When you create your character you will be given a total of 78 points to put into the following six stats. Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma.

Strength is important to the fighter. A high strength will increase your chances of hitting your opponent. It also allows you to carry a much heavier load on your travels.

Dexterity is most important to the thief. I would recommend that everyone max out this category if possible. This lowers your armor class. Having a low armor class decreases the chances of you being hit by an opponent. If you wield a missile weapon such as the bow, then dexterity will also increase the chance of you hitting your opponent.

Constitution is the most important to the fighter as well. This determines how much HP you have. Each level you gain HP having a high constitution will give you bonus points of HP every level.

Wisdom is most important to the Cleric and Druid. This determines how affective you are at learning priest spells and casting them successfully. For the sake of easiness I’m going to require that all clerics and druids have maximum stats of wisdom.

Intelligence is the most important to the mage. This determines how affective you are at learning mage spells and casting them successfully. For the sake of easiness I’m going to require that all mages have maximum stats of intelligence.

Charisma is another important stat. Having low charisma will make things cost a lot more in stores. It will also make it difficult to get information from people. Rewards for quests will be greatly reduced. Having high charisma will lower the cost of items in stores and will also make it A LOT easier to get information. At maximum charisma, you will get huge rewards for quests and great prices in stores.

Weapon Proficiencies are also important for choosing you character. Having one point of proficiency in a type of weapon will keep you from receiving a penalty for using an unfamiliar weapon. Having 2 points of proficiency will give you a small bonus making it easier to hit opponents. Having more than 3 points will give you a huge bonus. If you have no proficiency points in using a type of weapon then you will receive a penalty for that weapon. Fighters only receive an average penalty, Priests and Rogue receive a large penalty, and Wizards receive a huge penalty for using unfamiliar weapons. So choose carefully what kind of weapon you plan to use in the future.

There is a list of weapons that I have created. For an explanation of what all that means, I’ll use Dwarven Axe:

Dwarven Axe – 2d4, axe
Fighter

Dwarven Axe is the name of the weapon. 2d4 is how much damage this will deal. This means that 2 four-sided dice will be rolled. Their total will be the damage dealt. After that you will see axe; This is the weapon type. From this list of weapons you will choose which type you want to use. Finally, I have listed the classes that can use each weapon.

Weapon Proficiencies:

Fighters start out with 4 points, Rogues will start with 3, Clerics with 2, and Mages with 1. Any multiclasses will start out with half the proficiency points for each class rounded up. For example, a fighter-thief will get 3.5 points rounded up to 4. However, a fighter-cleric will start with 3.

Missile - Usable by all classes. Includes bows, crossbows, slings, darts, throwing daggers, throwing axes. Theif and bard cannot use crossbows, throwing axes, and any bow other than short bow. Cleric, Druid, and Mage are limited to slings, darts, and throwing daggers.

Piercing - Spears and Halberds are of this class. Usable by only fighter classes.

Short Sword - Usable by all classes. Mage, cleric, and druid are restricted to dagger.

Long Sword - Only usable by fighter classes. Thief and Bard may use one-handed long swords, but lose thief abilities such as backstab, hide in shadows, detect traps, etc.

Spiked - This class includes morning star and flail. Not usable by mage, thief, and bard. Can be used by fighter classes, cleric, and druid.

Axe - Only usable by fighter classes.

Blunt - This class includes club, mace, and staff. Only usable by fighter classes. Staff is usable by all classes

Constitution, the effects of:

Each level characters gain hp. Fighters gain 1-10, Clerics gain 1-8, Rogues gain 1-6, and Magi gain 1-4. The starting level will be treated like a level up starting from 5 HP.

Constitution HP Bonuses:

   CON____HP Adj.________CON_____HP Adj.

    3_______-1____________15_______+1
    4_______-1____________16_______+2
    5_______-1____________17_______+2 (+3)
    6________0____________18_______+2 (+4)
    7________0____________19_______+2 (+5)
    8________0____________20_______+2 (+5)
    9________0____________21_______+2 (+6)
   10________0____________22_______+2 (+6)
   11________0____________23_______+2 (+6)
   12________0____________24_______+2 (+7)
   13________0____________25_______+2 (+7)
   14________0

When constitution is more than 16 Fighters gain the bonus in the parenthesis where as other classes only gain +2.

Charm, the effects of:

At the beginning of the game each player gets an amount of gold equal to 50 plus 5 times that players charm. Suppose a player has 10 charm, they would start the game with 100 gold.

For each point of charm greater than 13 earns a 5% discount on all purchased item and services and a 5% bonuses to all sold services or items.

For each point of charm less than 8 earns a 5% increase on all purchased items and services and a 5% decrease to all sold services or items.

First of all I'm pretty sure that you can't multi-class a ranger and thief. You could certainly be a fighter thief. The only multi-class a ranger can be is if you are a half-elf and it's Ranger-Cleric.

If you check the link to gamefaqs.com and go to the FAQ on the rules, it has a list of all the acceptable multiclass, however, I'll accept this, but you wouldn't be able to get the dexterity bonus from being an elf, because regular elves don't have many multi-class, so to bend the rules you should probably be a half-elf.

Rangers do get Priest spells but it's not until level 9. I'll let you have a special ability of cure light wounds since your the main character.

If anyone has any ideas for more spells than just ask. I'm open to any suggestions.

Edit: I am going to update the FAQ for the bonuses and penalties for the different races.

Vadskye91, if you'd like to make any changes to your character after I update this, then go right ahead. I'd also recommend maxing out your constitution, because you currently only get a +1 bonus. Since your a fighter(ranger) if you have it at 18 then you can get a +4 bonus. Sorry to be picky, but I want to go as close to the book as possible that way it's fair. Also I was wondering if you thought if it would be a good idea to create some maps for this game as well.

btw, for all those wondering, I'll be calculating the stats with my dice rolling program I have. So if you don't want to calculate anything than you're in luck, because I'll do it for you.

I'll round down to 86 gold for your purchases, so you still have 54 gold. If you'd like to change your purchases now that you know you can afford more than that's fine. Before you made the purchases you could buy what would be an equivalent of 187 gold in base pricing.

Composite long bow - 120 gold
Arrows (100) - 5 gold
15 gold

Oh and three more questions. whats Thac0, and RSF is it worth me buying the composite long bow or should i save the money and just get a long bow? And lastly once the game has started can you change your proficency points? Like me changing mine to:

Blunt - 0
Long Sword - 1
Short Sword -
Spiked - 0
Spear - 0
Axe - 0
Missile - 3

Also shouldnt arrows be reusable? Im sure you could just pull them out of your opponents once you have killed them.

He did say that you could reuse the arrows if they hit your opponent.

How come a dwarf would be a ranger?

I don't know why everyone is a ranger. But I don't see any dwarf rangers anyway Athimus. Who are you talking about?

Edit: Athimus made a statement about English being a second language for him, so I think we should attempt to cut back on the big words if possible.

I was ironic, just forgot to put the ().
I play as a dwarf fighter and Vadskye said that everyone besides him is a ranger.

You misunderstood me again .
The problem is not you writing "big words", that's ok for me. I was just saying that I won't be able to post like that. I think it's nice using "big words" in the post, and you should keep on, if you like it.

Oh okay. No problem then. And I wouldn't worry too much about having "beautiful posts" as you put it. You're posts look fine to me.

You can earn gold from defeating enemies. Most enemies carry equipment which you can sell to shopkeeps. However if you want some serious gold then you should become a mercenary. The more danger the greater the reward.

The "auto-combat" is good. Very fair.
Maybe each player could create his own conditions, like:

-if I have 5 or less HP I retreat
-I always attack the weakest/strongest enemy I can reach
-I go directly to attack the enemies that have ranged attack.

Some options like this, so we could be a little ourselves(or our characters).

---------------
I changed my name, now instead of 2 complicated names(Athimus and Phaeni, that are always mispelled) you have just one: Sephiroth (yes, the Final Fantasy 7 villain).
