hmm sounds quite resonable (hope this is the right word), too. That thing with becoming a man.
Well, I didnt want to say that it IS the jesus story, I just think that it is in my eyes very similar.

So.. Do you want to read my poems? hmm well, maybe it wouldn't do much cuz they are in german - I could try and translate one of them - shall I?

Daddy,

Please do post your poem even if it is in German. I am a person who believes that a poem should stay in its original language for it to be fully appreciated.

If someone wants to fully appreciate your poem then I think they should learn the language.

Poems can be very subtle in their wondrous ability to inspire a person. I think translating a poem degrades it and scars the author's delivery.

I know some German. I studied the language for two years.

Ok, thx consis, here we go:

Du

Du bist wie die Sonne.
Du bist mir fern und doch
Spüre ich deine Nähe, denn
Dort, wo du hinscheinst, wird es warm.
Und dort stehe ich und
Wärme mich in deinem Licht.
Du.
Auch wenn eine Wolke dich verdeckt,
Weiß ich, du bist da
Denn selbst die dickste Wolke kann
Dein Licht nicht trüben und
Wenn die Wolke vorüberzieht,
Scheinst du umso schöner.
Du.
Du bist wie eine Wolke.
Du schwebst groß und sanft über mir und
Spendest Schatten.
Auch wenn du regnest, weiß ich,
Dass danach die Sonne scheint.
Und die Sonne bist
Du.
Auch wenn du verschiedene Formen annhemen kannst,
Bist du in jeder wunderschön.
Du.
Du.

enjoy

Daddy,

Thankyou for posting the poem in its original language. I truly feel that is the way poetry should be approached.

I found an old poem posted by Peacemaker. It wasn't written by her but she deserves credit for finding and posting it. I think it is a good piece of poetry.
Quote:
My Darling,

I'm waiting for you.
How long is a day in the dark?
Or a week?

The fire is gone now,
And I'm cold, horribly cold.
I really ought to drag myself outside
but then there'd be the sun.
I'm afraid I've wasted the light
from the paintings, and from writing these words.

We die.
We die rich with lovers and tribes,
tastes we have swallowed,
bodies we have entered
and swum up like rivers;
fears we have hidden in...

I want all this marked on my body.

We're the real countries,
not the boundaries drawn on maps,
the names of powerful men.

I know you'll come
and carry me out to the Palace of Winds.
That's what I've wanted.
To walk in such a place with you;
with friends.

An earth without maps.

The light has gone out.
I'm writing in the darkness...

Consis --

Thank you for re-posting the piece from the English Patient.  It is odd and serendipitous that you should have found that particular piece this week; I posted it the day Paul died, a year ago on August 22.

Donna (Paul's wife) just spent the weekend with us so she would not be alone.  We lit a candle for Paul, said the Jewish prayer (I can't remember what it's called), then we all talked and laughed and cried into the wee hours on Saturday and Sunday nights.

By the way -- the English Patient was played by Ralph Feinnes.  Robin Williams was not in the film, but I think I know which film you're thinking of (it's one I can't remember the name of just at the moment).

For The Gootch, PH and Romana:  Did I ever thank you guys for letting me cry to you that week?

If not, then thank you.  I couldn't do it to Donna, and so you were there for me when I needed you most.

Gandalfs_Girl,

It is very important to give credit to the author of a poem. I feel that poetry can sometimes be a great way to learn more about a person on the inside. Walking through life and meeting people is one thing but to truly get to know someone and learn of their real self is a very special experience. It isn't often that people speak from their heart. And sometimes they won't tell you when this happens for fear of having their feelings personally injured in some way.
Delicate is the horse that carries you to the waterhole of truth.

Today I sat alone thinking of the family get together at this place while we are the host.
I saw the tears in our eyes when we remembered all we could barely bare to hold our grief off all that was lost
Lost but found pictures of our loved one born many yrs before.
Looking at our past & what we have done makes us happy but then again torn.
It's been so many many yrs since I saw you last in so many years.
We talked about everythang in our lives & thier lives & everyones lives who is still here & gone while we sit in yearn we shed the tear.

It's been so long since I seen everyone I am shaken & very nervous but I am a child.
I love them for being a part of me so while the adults shall set us at ease because they know even tho it's been such a long while.

So many memories & so little time to live.
It seems like we are young again talking about all that happened so very very long ago, mature I may be I feel so very little talking to my family about all that has come & all that will come.

I dont want to say goodbye please dont live here again.
I want to see you again in the next get together with my new life & my new love.

It's such a weird feeling going back to memory lane it's like sitting in the sand watching the sun go down.
With so many dreams & toughts of your own toughts lingering through the waves of a sadden fear of the ocean just tumbling down right at your feet.

I feel sad that we are getting older so quick & it seems so long ago that there is so very much life to gain.
I need to live it the best I can & my memories wont be in vain

I miss them so much already & it only been a very short time since you left me.
Please come back to me so I wont have to think about you also in my memories only underneath this only lonely tree.

I wish I would have posted the IM from you like Wolf did.  Your writing above tells us all you have suffered more than one great loss.

If we're paying attention that is.

I was.

You have a good soul, my friend.

Keep on.

On Married Wings The Faithful Dove
The words can't seem to find me today
I've lost the strength to make them sway
Children make tiresome moments in life
Over and over I wait for my wife
To return from the trip
A 12 hour skip
Once winter arrives
The family thrives
On warmth of heart and burning wood
The hearthen stove and family good
Shall bid the rise in strength of will
And put to rest the anxious drills
Of living alone without my wife
A lonely thing and empty life
What comes will may until the day
I see her face and feel the gay
The love of kin and warm-cooked meals
No substitute will ever fill
The place in my heart and life of love
On married wings the faithful dove

~written by Consis

A New Day, New Maidens, And Infinite Fawns
Ode to the beauty of her body and spine
The small of her back curved with elegant lines
Lust fills compassion on the long slender thighs
Wishing to well in those ominous eyes
A fever of love to swoon yet not take
The life from her person with an honorable rake
Lasting forever does it seem to hold true
The blue hue of her new shoes waltzing next to you

The hands of a mother
No comparible other
The lover, the lover
My heart quakes for no other

If only to have her once in my arms
An embrace of shared love and mingled alarms
The alarm of true pain should you ever be left
The alarm of your shame should she leave you bereft
The alarm of aloneness in the recesses of your mind
In time may she walk with unforgettable shine
The glow of her person
Uniquely dispersing

To the one thing matters
The one thing that shatters
Your heart on a platter
For breakup's Madhatter

Insanity plea for the innocent you see
It can't be in logic if she sails out to sea
The sun and horizon both set to the dawn
A new day, new maidens, and infinite fawns

We're going to have a poetry contest at school, where people have to write about food. Here's what I've got so far...

When I'm in a bad mood
I eat some food
Because it's good.

***

Meatballs and steaks
How happy it makes
A person who's hungry
'cuz hungry means angry

***

Tomatoes and leeks
Make me feel meek
What I'd rather eat
Is a big pile of meat

***

Restaurants are
Very bizarre
You pay for food
That's not always good
You say it's worth it
Well I say it won't fit
What I'm willing to spend.

Okay, I know I'm not much of a poet, but writing those was fun

Fresh off the Presses...

This is a poem I wrote in my head while not paying attention in class today. I couldn't wait to come and share it with everyone.

Timeless

In the stillness of a life's repose,
Escaping from those highs and lows,
Resting on that path I chose,
I now will stop to think.

Time is unceasing, never leasing
Much needed solace from its flight.
The limit's set, all seem to sweat
Those details which are wound too tight.

The pressure of the daily grind,
Cares not if you are left behind,
It's bound to make one lose his mind,
If pushed out to the brink.

So here I stand, with visions grand,
Of where I'd like to go from here.
We cannot lose the time we use;
So use it well, and do not fear.

We know not what may lie ahead,
But we know all we've done and said,
The marks we've left, the lives we've led,
The joy we've shown, the tears we've shed.
All meant to make us realize,
We're each timeless in someone's eyes.
