I'm not, I support Everton (they play in the premier league and are from the city of Liverpool) and we Evertonians tend to hate Man U with a passion. To see him leave, thus weaken the side is a good thing for us
Besides, a lot of us hate him anyway

Quote: That kind of says it all, anyone can loose a friendly when no-one cares about the result, like we did to Germany in the last match at Wembeley. Around then though we thrashed them 5-1 in a qualifying game. I know which is more important and which I'd rather win. Especially since quite often, the friendly's are played with understrength sides from the favourite team. If you can't win when it matters, you've no right to criticise those that can
Did you consider the fact that both the favourites AND the undergogs are understrengthed?

anyway this joke doesnt belong as a new thread, there is a thread called "football bar" for jokes like this one.
Why do some people feel a need to make a new thread each time they get an idea. Look around first.
As for this thread/joke i havent heard it before so i found it rather amusing, though i would prefer if a moderator merged the starting post into cats football bar thread instead because thats where it belongs.

Not normally they are not no. At the end of the day, do you really think Ericcson minds loosing to say Macedonia or Australia when he is trying new players and ideas? I doubt it, of course they want to win, but most friendlies are hardly something to panic about if they loose. They're more often than not trials and preparation for tournaments, the results will never matter compared to who wins when the World cup is on.

Well.. Brazil has been having bad results frequently.
I was not saying that English team is bad, dont know where did you read that. And I know sometimes the coach try another players or some of them cant play some games (this happens all the time with the Brazil team, most European teams dont like to let the players play for their national team).
But when Brazil loses we dont keep saying:
"It was just a friendly, lets see in a real game."
"We have better results than you."
"We missed that player..."
Just accept that sometimes your team really didnt deserve to win, and the opponent tried harder to win(like we recognize in the last South-American Pre-Olimpic tournament).

What you are talking about is the single GAME, what he is talking about is the national side. That is two different things, the fact that we loose, be it for good or bad reasons or simple bad luck to a small side is a pathetic excuse to criticise the national side, especially when such results are not against a full stregnth side half the time.
They're not excuses, they're the truth, whether you like them or not is irrelevant to the discussion. Not mentioning them would be wrong as it leaves people with a false impression of the side if they think that a full strength, fully motivated England side would really loose a match to Australia (for example). They almost certainly would not, so the reasons why they did loose are important to give the right impression.

Australia was a friendly, the match against Macedonia was a qualifier. We qualified though, why should we give a damn about if we had one or two bad results on the way to it? We didn't care that our side in 1966 were appalling in the first two games, because we went on to be the best side in the tournament. Equally I see no reason to fret and fuss if we loose or draw a competition game when the end result is that we were good enough to qualify.

Hudson, I think you just need a sense of humour cause everyone knows (even if they don't like to admit it) that England is a lot better than Australia and Macedonia and everyone is allowed to have a bad day every now and then.

Why bother? It's here now, let it lie. Anyway, as I've already said, I have a sense of humour, I just tire of the same joke re-worked for a new club or country every now and then. Time for some new material guys!
Reminds me of those god-awful "hey look, it's a dwarf, lets make fun out of his size!" jokes in the two towers....

It was the first time I have read/listended this joke.
I didn't find it funny at all. (Note: I am Brazilian)
Actually it is more a way to make fun of a team.
But as some people (including me) posted before, just accept it(even if you don't like it).

I didn't say you should accept it as a funny joke.
What I meant is that you make a big deal of it.
If you don't like it, just keep quiet.
