The most interesting thing that happened to me today was...

You know when friends get together and they start telling each other how their day went. Exactly this is what I wanna do here. Tell the most interesting or funniest thing that happened to you in the past day (or two, at most). Interesting situation with your friends, co-workers, who said what, something that made you laugh today. If nothing interesting happened today, don’t post.

=========
OK, I’ll start. Even though it’s very extreme, that is what happened yesterday and inspired me to start this kind of thread.
I got busted yesterday (Thursday, 14.02) in 2:30 AM, when I and two friends of mine were fooling around the National Theatre building.
This is how it happened. That night we made sort of a party at my friend’s house, because his parents were in Austria for 2 weeks. You know, partying, drinks and everything, and at about 2:00 AM, when most of the people went home, we, seduced by the wine a bit, entered a cab and went downtown at the National Theatre. We had been told by a friend of ours (an actor), that there are spooky twisting halls inside, and wanted to see if there’s any entrance.
Never mind the fact that it’s a black spot for criminals and the police often sets ambushes there. But we didn’t know that then. In a country such as Macedonia, few would believe that the police actually deal with criminals.
We started to circle around the building and suddenly we saw a broken glass, covered with paperboard, which lead to a ruined room, which lead inside the theatre.
Not sensing any danger, I entered the room. Moments later I heard shouts and I saw about 10 men running toward my friends outside. I hid under a table immediately, thinking it was some sort of gang. Few minutes I lied there and kept myself in suspense, when the lights turned on and a man with a flash light came in the room. He said: “Get out of there, mother snower!” I approached him with my hands up, and he kicked me and hit my head several times. Until then I didn’t believe the police were so violent. They searched me and my friends, insulted us several times and took us to the station. We felt some strange feeling of angst and excitement, all mixed up. My friends told me they had told the cops I had been “sheatting” there, which made me laugh even more.
Back at the station, they took our names and phone numbers and put us in a real prison cell with bars. We spent the night there and when morning came, they released us. Then, we talked with an inspector, a woman (very interesting and strict person, btw), who told us we are accused of a hard burglary in attempt (!). Never mind the fact that the glass was already broken, they said it was us who broke it. Now I wait to see what happens with the accusation. I might even end on probation! My country now officialy finds me a crook! It’s hard for me to believe that. I have always been a respectful citizen and all that, and it feels weird being on this side of the law along with the society scum.
This was my second time to go to the police, but this time as an accused, not accuser. It was one hell of an experience I will never forget. When I look at it, from this one day perspective, I feel I would do it again, if I was certain, there are no cops.

Wow.  That's amazing!  Did you know, you might be able to contact the media and they'll turn your funny story into a tale of police brutality.  You could be a TV star!

Police Brutality Inside Macedonia

I was thinking the same thing Vadskye but then I reminded myself that Macedonia has different laws concerning what police can do to suspected criminals. He said that this happened in Macedonia while his friend's parents were away in Austria. I don't know about police brutality laws over there but, jeez, if you got kicked around and hit in the head for simply surrendering with hands raised then that would be a serious crime in america against the officer who did it!

That isn't even saying if the suspect was a blackman. In america, if an african-american was treated like you, Svarog, then there would be an all out riot! LoL, leave it to us americans to bring up police brutality in a situation like this

Also, I am sorry they treated you like that Svarog. After listening to your story it sounds like you were innocent. It makes me wonder what sort of crime in that country would drive a police officer to be so callous to the civil rights of a citizen that was not resisting arrest. Perhaps the officer in question has had some very bad things happen to him or his co-workers while on the job in that part of town.

Were your friends beaten too? What happened to them?

Well, I guess it’s not always as we see in the movies: “You have the right to remain silent…”. Law here also says that violence can only be used if the person resists arrest. But if I have no proofs (and I haven’t got any), then it’s my word against theirs. Hmmm, I wonder who’d the judge believe?!
I told the officer at the station and the inspector that was questioning me later, that I was beaten by the cops, even though I hold my hands up, but they said nothing. The officer just said: “Did we beat you when we brought you to the station?” I said: “No.” “Then what do you want more.”
My friends didn’t get beaten, but I think they saw the cops hit me once.
I was guilty alright. But not for everything they are accusing me of. It wasn’t a violent entry. The glass was already broken. And it wasn’t an attempt to steal anything.
You too know that justice is not always served. I read about the incident you had with your ex-wife. Same thing here, same thing everywhere. If you got no proofs, nobody will believe you.

About three years ago when I was thugged by two other guys, but I didn't give them anything.
Later that night (2:00 AM) the police called me and asked me to go to the station and "identify the suspects", but those weren't the same snows.

Heh, considering the sluggish court system here, it might take months until that accusation enters in process.
Also, I'm trying to use the "benefits" of our corrupted system now, if you know what i mean.
Probably won't be too hard, since it isn't a real crime in the first place, but we'll see. What I'm trying is not to get a police record, since it might disqualify me form applying for US visa, needed for the free trip to the US I won for this summer.

As for belgrade, i don't know what you've heard, but it's no more than a bit civil unrest there. Hope things don't escalate.

The fact is that here on Balkan (especialy in ex Yugoslavian countrys) things are not so beautyfull like in other countryes. Peace is relativ subject here. People are not living calm life like other Europians. Intensions are on high level, especially after Serbia tryed to conquer my country Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina and converting them into "Big Serbia". People who were in war are suffering from PTSP and they don`t need much to explode...Crime is riseing, especially amongst youth population...reasons are plenty (family, low economic standards, street...) And about corruption in public services I won`t talk...It seems to me that we are going back in Midlle age instead in the future...
