Respect towards J.R.R.Tolkien

Alike most of the people, I’m addicted to the tales of J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1973). English scientist, Oxford university professor, twentieth century classic writer - who can be so intelligent like that. He was the one who inspired 3DO of thinking about such things as orcs, treants, hobbits (Halflings), dwarves, elfs and wizards. Mostly, Homm series were based on such creatures eg.: in Stronghold, Rampart(Preserve), Academy etc.

I feel great respect towards this commonly known writer. So I thought to dedicate a poem (created by myself) to him and his tales.

Night of the hobbit

Sitting by the window,
Looking at the sky,
Stars become your friends now,
Flying here tonight.

As you fly together,
You become their friend.
They now know what your name is:
There and back again.

In gloomy spot you're sitting
You see your mirrored face -
A hobbit's looking at you
From shaded, moonlit place.

As shadow's crawling nearer
Your blue eyes start to blink,
The scarred face doesn't notice
"who am I" it just thinks.

Your brain now seems so restless
Without a long night sleep,
So it just close these deep eyes
And watch the running sheep.

In dreams, you see a tall elf
Who's walking with a dwarf,
Plus wields it golden crossbow
Which hides an elven scarf.

They walk through hidden dangers
And sparkling tunnels too,
To see the sacred forest
And fight the Shadow Doom

But when you reach this forest,
You wake up from this dream.
It looks so real and strange now
But not as it could seem...

Dedicated to J.R.R.Tolkien,

Actually, yes. I once (three months ago ) tried to create a new book (strange cross between Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Homm). Though, I gave it up (I was writing it in English(30 pages,8pt.,Trebuchet MS were already written)) because I had a lot more job to do.

I think I'll continue my job with new idea soon. Maybe, if I create something, I'll post it in HC.

I suggest you write that book my friend. I like your poems and I think you have a good heart. I look forward to your material as an up and coming writer. You may not know english as well as some but I think you are headed in the right direction. Good Luck!

May all of your written works add to the richness of the culture of the people of the world. In kind, let go your inhibitions and soar with everlasting freedom.

I dunno whether I should say that, but you're all too kind to me

Assuming I'm only twelve years old boy (7th form) I cannot do so much good, decent things as I would like to.

Though, if I started to write a book, it wouldn't be finished so soon as it could be.

It may be that you all like this poem, but it's way harder to create such a thing than you might think it is.

Maybe you should create poems and write books too. Eg. Consis. He created funny, interesting poems in Poetry, Poetry, Poetry thread. He's way older than me, has more rights, has great mind. He could create and then publish a book.

Maybe I do not deserve this, but I still respect your kindness as much as I respect J.R.R.Tolkien who's unfortunately dead. May the God bless him.

Don't You See?

regnus_khan don't you see? Look at the importance you are placing on writing a book for yourself. You are obviously a bit strict on yourself because you want your material to be of good quality. This tells me that you are willing to learn more and perfect your writing techniques. You must start somewhere. Write something now and edit it later. You may find that more people like your material than you think. It is the sign of a good writer to be so hard on him or her self. That's because they set high standards for their books due to their own interest in the material. That means you are a writer that cares deeply about what he is writing. Remind yourself of your passion and interests and go for it! You can become a great writer! You simply have to start somewhere.

I am trying. Just as you have doubts about your work so too, do I. I am trying to overcome the doubt of who might actually read my books. It takes courage to put a book on the world stage for all to see. Perhaps together you and I can conquer our fears and create some exceptional pieces of written work. We must have courage and believe in ourselves. I shall believe in you if you believe me.

Quote:
Maybe I do not deserve this

Ofcourse you do. Not only do you deserve it but so does the rest of the world. I'm sure they would love to have your dreams contribute to the culture we call life. I, for one, look forward to them and hope someday someone might also look forward to mine.

I would look forward to seeing someone who could post here like you, other persons, maybe Doomnezeu or RSF. They (and you) see the matter here and advise me to create something new, so do I advise y'all. I see that you all understand the truth of life and the need of poems, tales etc. etc.

I do agree with you, Consis, that courage of publishing a new book into worldwide bestseller (or not) section needs 100% of courage and self-confidence. For example, danish writer Lene Kaaberbol published her book series about young girl Dina, defined as sister of H.Potter, when she was only fifteen (!). This is a commonly known and read book all over Lithuania alike in Denmark.

I may one day listen to your advice and publish my own book, so I suggest you to do that too.

About book writing. I constantly come up with really good ideas for books, tried writing something a few times, but I always abandoned it not much later. I've got two great ideas in my head waiting to bo written, but I don't want to start because I know myself too well and I know I wouldn't be able to carry on long enough to get a satisfying result. Some of my ideas include:

"Work In Progress" - a story of a writer, limited to his role as a narrator and creator, totally disregarding other aspects of his life. How he makes up a fantasy world, chooses the characters and so on.

"Me, Myself and I" - thought about egoism and arrogance told through the story of three people - Me, Myself and I. Please note that the latter does not have anything in common with the HC member known as "I".

"The Table of the Round Knights" - a story that points out and magnifies the bad traits of the English nobility (would require some research prior to actually writing it), told from the point of view of the table.

There's more. There's always more. It's a real torment, having ideas that might turn out very good if only I was capable of finishing stories I start. Maybe some day I'll find someone who will help me. Maybe I will see the day when I write "the end" after a few hundred pages that fully exploit at least one of my ideas.

Maybe...

EDIT: fixed one of the book idea descriptions

It could be similar to SW story about Anakin Skywalker. He talks about hisself, about the Jedi, about the Galaxies all over the Universe. It is a very good idea Woock, but it seems that it would be adressed towards adults more.

If I start writing a book, I would write about adventures, journeys, magic, like J.K.Rowling (I feel respect towards her too), J.R.R.Tolkien (already mentioned) and many more writers did. That's the way to make everybody interested in reading that: from a child to an old man.

I don't care who would be more interested in reading books on my ideas (young readers tend to go for amusing plot instead of food for thought, so seeing that group not interested in whatever I'd ever write wouldn't be a bad thing in my eyes). What would be important to me is knowing that I wrote something and what I wrote is good. In writing, I shall not seek financial success. One should see it more important that one is capable of doing worthwhile things, not that one is capable of earning millions.

I do not seek it either. I just say that everybody would read it worldwide even if you don't receive the fin. success.
See Tolkien: he died and only then was announced as a great writer. He didn't seek any financial success.

I just wanted to note that if I write a book, I do not want it to be rubbish. I would have my heart and mind pleased if someone really liked and enjoyed it.

Book writing is like a hobby, in addition to the real job, I presume.

That's the first step in writing Lord_Woock. This statement identifies what kind of contribution you can make to the world as your own self. It's good that you want to be you. Your written works will reflect the nature of your individuality. If we had a world where everyone writes for the same reasons then it wouldn't be a very interesting world. Keep in mind that the rest of the world is waiting. We are waiting to hear what Lord_Woock thinks. It is not because you are some important celebrity who makes news daily but because you offer what only you can. You offer another unique perspective that adds to the well-seasoned flavor that is humanity. Variety is the food and your ideas will be it's seasoning.

This is the sign of a true athlete. You are only competing with yourself. Because of this you will not look to demean others with your works. You will not put yourself above them.

Try and remember, a writer is a person and people have to eat. If you had a family, then your kids would need food, clothing, and shelter. That's perfectly ok to receive money for your works as long as you aren't greedy with money like american baseball players are with their earnings.

Well duh, I'll always expect some income for any published works that I might get published. What I meant was, what I write should not be influenced by questions like "what would attract a greater number of readers?" and stuff.
