MapMasters for Heroes 3 and Heroes 4

Ok, I talked it over with Ves and he ok'd the running of MapMasters. We will be redoing the initial page in the new style but in the meantime I need some suggestions. I would prefer to run one H3 and one H4 simultaneously, but only one of each at a time. My thought is for the H3 ones we can go back and forth between fixed and rmg maps, or whatever there is more call for. But I don't play Homm4 so I have absolutely no idea of what the map names even are there. So, this is what I am looking for in this thread. Nominations for MapMasters maps from both the Homm3 and Homm4 side. As it's never been ran for the Homm4 side all maps are available, the more popular, the better. On the Homm3 side I would prefer to do one that has not been done yet. So suggest away!

This might help...

I figured since you cannot currently access the old pages, I'd post which maps have been done already for Homm 3.

Random Templates
Extreme
Blockbuster
Ring
Panic
2SM4d(2)
Dwarven Tunnels

Fixed Maps
North vs South
New World
Battle of Bastards 2
Showdown 3
Giant War
Desert War

Mapmaster was originally a fine idea for a sub-tourney which unfortunately got completely overdone. As more and more mapmaster tournies appeared becoming a mapmaster began lose any prestige it may of originally had, and people started to lose interest. Eventually the "mapmasters" were decided on advances given to the next round (or even the title itself) based on e-mails or some other criteria other than actually playing and winning games. I have no idea why with all the types of tournies that could be done you would decide to do another mapmasters for h3.

I will probably get a lot of flak for this, especially since I don't even play lol, but the decision making process here leaves me wondering...

What's next? Fest? lol

Na Kirk it was because of the players that joined the map masters after a few of those sub tournies.
It was all good the first three times but after we got a bunch of players no one heard of that didnt even pull thier own share.

H4 Maps I propose --

Imperial Prison
DangerZoNe
PowerSpot

About H3 --

HourGlass -- GiantWar -- DesertWar?

Those maps were overplayed 5 years ago when I played H3  I am Curious is there no map makers around for H3? Not trying to start any flaming wars here, just suprised there wasnt any new maps ever show up in the last 5 years.

As far as MapMasters losing prestige because there were too many. I don't think that is the case. After all the whole "prestige" of MapMasters is the right to say that you are the best at a certain map, that doesn't change if only 2 are ran or 50 as long as it's a different map each time.

And Aculias is right, it has a lot to do with the veteran players becoming disinterested in the entire tournament for reasons that are well known and do not need discussed here, and the newbies coming in registering and then not doing there part. But they were new, and that is pretty common.

Wanderer, the maps I listed were ones that were already run, not ones I was proposing to run. I really would prefer to have no repeats at this point.

Jinxer, part of the whole "King of the Hill" idea made it natural for the players to chose the older maps for the first rounds of MapMasters. "Everyone has played them 5000 times so let's see who is the best at it", type of deal. And yes there are some map makers, however, most of them are from WW and a lot of the core TOH players don't play them and some of them are just not that well known. I will do some thinking on that.

At any rate, here is what we have nominated so far:

Heroes 3
Balance (RMG)
True Random (RMG)
8mmx (RMG)
8XM8 (RMG)
Hourglass? (Fixed)

Heroes 4
Imperial Prison
DangerZoNe
PowerSpot

More suggestions please

I stopped playing map masters cuz it didnt work on its own merits, not because of other factors. There is a very high truancy rate, for both vets and newer players. I remember one whole round (first round Panic template) where only 1 game was played (me with my opponent). Another time playing a player who had 2 "free" wins and didnt really want to play me in the semi final.

After trying very hard to play all my games and winning  2 mapmaster finals i decided it was all just too silly, and really didnt mean i was the master of the maps since half the games or more of the entire tournament (esp. Panic), didnt get played.

To make it work do NOT accept all entries. It is a tourney about "masters" after all. Deciding on what hoops to "jump" through for entry is trickier but I'll try it here:

* must have 3 reported games on that map/template this season ie. has an interest in the map not just the tourney

* must have reported at least 4 games of any type in the previous 2 months ie. plays regularly

* must be at least 3rd toh rank (what ever name it gets)

* extensions only for saved games and no free byes. The waiting list will substitute for players that miss the deadline before starting the game (yes only the uncontactable player is substituted). Sure this will delay later rounds, but at least you have a real tournament, with a title that actually means something.

well Jinx, mapmasters, from what i've read relies on a (big) number of people playing a set map, so i would think we should only give 3 maps, the ones with the highest popularity.

Those are in my oppinion :
Circle of life
Powerspot
Imperial Prison

we should all be objective on this matter if we want to have a succesful tournament ... giving out 20 maps, and having less than 5 games on each of them is not going to make this worthwhile.

It's ok guys. I will only run one map at a time so no fear of the number of maps driving down the number of games. I haven't reconfigured the list but I see no problem in running several rounds on several maps, it will be a long season! I will just do them in the order or requests here, lol.
