New Map - Spellcasters

Spellcasters

http://toheroes.com/h4maps/spellcasters.zip

Description: Each player is given five spellcasters.  The land is rich, and war is brewing.  Can the Mountain King keep the peace?

A short readme file comes with the .zip, explaining the basics of the map.

Any questions or comments welcome here.. please give it a try

p.s. - one thing (at least for the first week of the map), that i think might be helpful is to have the Equilibris classes .pdf (although i see that the equilibris site seems to be down right now.. ) open in the background while playing .. even if you have all the advanced classes memorized, just looking at it can give you ideas for hero combinations that you might not have thought of before.

here, what do you think of the special parts of this map?  i've copied out the readme out below:

Quote:
/ / / /    Spellcasters    \ \ \ \

2 Player Medium Map for Equilibris 3.4 ONLY

All Combat Skills are BANNED
Your heroes gain att/def from Pandora’s Boxes... some pandora’s boxes give +10 defense, some give +10 attack… the ones in the arenas give experience, while the one in the middle gives something special   Your heroes may gain magic resistance naturally (+3% magic resistance every 2 levels) or through artifacts

No Taverns anywhere on the map
Your starting five heroes (one of each type of spellcaster) are the only heroes available to you the entire game

“Arenas” are areas surrounded by columns which only heroes may enter
Potions of Immortality are not allowed in arenas… if you enter an arena with potions of immortality in your possession they will be taken from you (of course each hero may drink 1 potion of immortality before they enter, because it is not a potion in that case, it is a spell effect)

The Spirit of Oppression is present!
The Spirit of Oppression is given to each player from the start of the game.  It negates all morale in battle.

Recommended Rules:
No GM Demonologism

I think the absence of the combat skill can make the game very fun, because it gives the heroes more experience to work with because they don't hafto use experience on combat skills.  This allows for many possibilities of advanced classes for your heroes, maybe some advanced classes that rarely get used will come to the forefront
and yes, the dark priest, dark lord, witch king, etc. are actually useful on this map if you give them attack boxes!

A melee hero can still be effective, as there are about 12 +10 attack boxes on each side i believe (i would say 8-10 of them attainable in first 4 weeks), but obviously the hero does not divide the defense of enemies because he does not actually have the melee skill..  so you cant waltz into a utopia with only a 60 attack hero and expect to win.. but it can still be fairly effective against creatures (just not overpowering) and very effective against opponent's heroes.

I know you may be worried, because with the absence of the combat skills also goes magic resistance.  But there are quite a lot of major + minor artifacts, and 1 placed 50% magic resistance cape near each starting town.  So you actually have a good chance of getting 50% or better magic resistance on 3, maybe 4 out of 5 of your heroes.  And the remaining hero who is without any mag resistance arty will still have 3% magic resistance for every 2 levels.. so a L15 hero would be at 21%.

With two unlinked towns on each side (there is a third actually, but you cannot build dwellings in it), you can mix and match armies, because you have the spirit of oppression.  Ya might have devils and angels in same army  Or mantises and titans might be a nice combo..   mantises hold while titans shoot  plenty of possibilities..

my favorite part of the map, comes from its name.. you get to cast all sorts of spells on all sorts of targets.. can be fun

mmm nope not a remake of the h2 classic, but i took the name (and the way the description is worded) from the h2 classic.  I believe the h2 map's description was: "The four spellcasters face off with substantial starting armies.  Can the crusaders keep the peace?"

and yes that was a great map, but this is quite a different map

has anyone tried this map yet?  i would like to hear what you thought of it, and if you thought it was bad, what suggestions you might have for it.. or if you found bug or somethin

p.s. - and i'm askin about the official version on toh, not the beta that i let a few ppl see earlier.. there were many major changes from beta --> version 1.0  so i think it unfair to judge map by beta version.
