A simple (or maybe not so simple) question...
I have just read the post on "top secondary skills," and saw that there was a clear difference of opinion regarding "Luck."
Personally I wouldn't have Luck as one of my eight skills. Still it is by far not the worst, it doesn't "ruin" an otherwise good hero, to put it that way.
I have however noticed something a bit strange. I have heard numerous times that the highest value for "luck" and "morale" is 3. There are in other words no point in wearing twelve artifacts of luck and visit 7 temples etc..
In fact, I have discovered that not only is 3 the gihest possible value, anything above 3 seems to have a NEGATIVE EFFECT on luck and moral percentage. I once entered a fight with the AI, made several moves and saw how many "lucky" strikes I got. I had at the time 3+ in Luck. I then reloaded and increased my luck to what would have been +7. (Expert Leadership+Pendant of Courage+Badge of courage). This time I had significantly fewer "lucky strikes." And even more interestingly, when I reloaded the third time and reduced my Luck to + 2, (Had a market of time nearby if anyone should find this strange) I got even more "luck" strikes than the first time!
Why is this, and how is Luck calculated, does anyone know for sure?

Thats exactly the reason why so many people dont take luck/leadership. You cant count on it.
I'm usually not lucky with luck/moral, i always get them when i dont need them and dont get them when i do.
But about yours (not so simple) question, maybe angelito should do some tests about this

I think you cannot measure the luck by counting the lucky strikes. You may have a lot of luck (or 3 luck) and do not get even a single lucky strike. Only a HUGE count of tries may bring results that are close to the truth.
I do not take Leadership or Luck for secondary skills too. They can be obtained from artifacts or map locations before important battles.
There is another skill that is a bit hazarduous - Resistance. Once I ocasionally played the resistant hero from the Rampart (with speciality resistance) and it was fun. I even found some of the resistance artifacts. I do not know how/if they stack with the skill or with each other though. With the resistances that some of the rampart units have you should be quite well protected from spells.

you do also have to take into consideration that a max luck, or 3 luck, has about an 8% chance of working.

nope both max luck and max morale have 12% of working

It's not 12%. It's 12.5% (according to the manual).
Well, it is a 1 in 8 chance of getting an extra strike, meaning roughly having the chance to move with one more creature stack per round. Not that bad now, is it?!

If I use diplomacy I am usually more concerned about having the Visions spell instead of leadership.

And why should leadershio prevent you from havving the vision spell.
The reason you need leadrshop when you have diplomacy is becouse you will most probably have varius kinds of creatures in your army, thus negative morale.

Hmmmm....interesting theory...never thought about that possibility. Really donīt know that at the moment.
But i will test this and mention it in the up coming "How does "Moral", "Luck" and "Diplomacy" work exactly"-thread.
Need some more tests, perhaps itīs ready on next weekend

I think that not the leadership but the morale of the army affects the diplomacy. This way leadership affects it indirectly. The other thing that probably may help is having the same type of creature in your army.
Angelito, you may test it with some morale artifacts, and the visions spell .... It's interesting to see what your results will show.
