Here are my thoughts.
I've been to no more than 10 (seriosly) forums on the internet. I was most at flipcode flipcode.com/forums - it's a programming site - for newbies/beginners/advanced.
There is no such thing as posting counts or like this - of course some of the people posting there are real life& game business heroes - well we don't have John Carmack (the main coder of Quake) there - but we got lots of others. Those people don't need POSTCOUNT respect - also most of them are quite busy - and don't post so much. So if there was somethin' as postcount there - probably there'll be 50% more threads talkin only for the sake of posts-count. So i think it's useless.
Of course flipcode.com is only programming site, here the things are different. I suggest following
let the stars be there - and postscount work - but don't display them on the board. This way people will not post only for the sake of postscount. Also don't tell to anyone when they'll reach the next level. This way - they'll not try to do so. Just put stars for informing how long this man was on the board - that's all..
About quality posts - I suggest that something like alerting must be done (there can be button ALERT near the post - again flipcode.com idea) - If someone feels that he is hurt from some post, or think it's not connected then he can ALERT that post by pressing the... ALERT button. Later moderator can keep track what happened.

Valera, I've been like talking to you a lot before. But I'm not getting why some of your rules are so harsh. I mean, I agree with the racism, sexiasm, etc. but some are just too much for the everyday member. Maybe you should give more freedom in posts. Just my suggestion. And, what's ur aim, u not on icq lately. By the way, you think I'm worthy of being a moderator? heh, just asking. don't really care if you say no. But it'll be nice too. Sure, I made mistakes, but it was before you made that list of rules. I'll watch out more from now on. O, and I am also the head of 6 different clans, and I have some great ideas for ranking names (maybe u need to make some ranks sound better). If you want I can e-mail you a list of ranking names that will go perfect with this community.

Quote: I don't see what the big deal is about swearing. It's not like there are people here who haven't heard swearwords before. Nor is it likely that replacing a swearword with **** will stop swearing on the fora. Finally, there are plenty f ways to circumvent the no-swaering rule. It's just pointless.
Actually I know quite a few people who, though they may have heard swearwords before, certainly dont want to hear them nor read about them. my siblings are who I'm talking about specifically, and there not all little kids either,I mean some are older then u I bet(like try 21) thats right some people are raised by parents with stuff against that. i personally don't mind swearing all that much and I am currently the only person of my family that reads these forums but I know many others who have the same values, some of which will probably play heroes, plus there always the possibility that these forums might be viewed by the younger audience. SO i think this is a good rule.
Amd a comment about the crack/WArez issue, Ive heard or seen a post once with someone asking for a crack to their hereos game or something like that so I was wondering..
Are these rules for the new toh community, ones that werent neccesarily applies before?

I'm starting to see people skipping around the 'less than x amount of words for a signature' rule and posting animations for signatures. A signature is a written sign off, it should have some meaning behind it, not just a graphic animation that people can say 'cool' to. This is not a signature, this is abuse of something that you can put in every single post. Are there any rules against this sort of thing? This board is starting to look like an anime cartoon house.

We certainly will not promote the use and distribution of cracks and wares. However, I was happy to see that most requests for such material were simply ignored by other Community members, meaning that the post disappeared by itself in a matter of hours. In the future, we wil see if a specific action against this type of request is needed.

I didn't really know where to put this and not wanting to create another post I've put it in here.
Some of the last changes Valera made are really cool. For instance the last page number next to the topics in the 'Last 5 replies' list, that's really helpful. There are however a number of similar things that could possibly be improved. I'm not asking you to do all this Valera, I'm just pointing things out. I use ASP to make websites and I know what a time consuming work it is. But if you have time to work on the hc, you might find some of the suggestions below interesting.
- The last page number next to the topics in the 'Last 5 replies' list brings you to the forelast page if the number of posts is dividable by 20. (When there's 20 or 21 + a certain number of times 20 posts you come on the forelast page, the last page contains one post in that case)
- Upon posting in a topic, you are redirected to the first page. The last page would probably be better. Or maybe the forum containing the post, the tavern for example.
- Upon editing a post, people are redirected to the forum containing the post. Redirection to the page containing the edited post would be better. If I edit posts I usually read them over to see if the edit fixed what I wanted to change. I think others do the same, this could really be helpful.
- Floodprotect for editing should be lower IMHO. I'm writing grammar or other mistakes every now and then but have to wait quite a while to adjust it. Maybe it could be 50 or 25% less than the post-floodprotect? I don't know if others feel this way though.
- When posting a redirection screen follows, containing old features that are not longer on the hc (probably to take load off the servers) such as the 'search' option. I'm not sure if people are allowed still use this feature, but I guess not. In that case it is best removed. (btw, I think that same screen pops up when editing a post)
- Some topic names show a large red star next to them when in a forum. This is quite cool, but no one seems to know what meaning they exactly have. I used to think they had something to do with quality points, but I'm not sure.
- In some of the forums people have been making great index threads. Sometimes mods or admin post Must-read topics and some other threads are just very great. Others have mentioned this before, but sticky topics might really be nice. Topics that stay on top of the list in a forum and don't get pushed down by lots of new posts. They could stay up for a limited amount of time or even forever.

Man I gotta tell you this is a great idea, so long as it is 1) confidential 2) not going to be abused and 3) confidential ).
confidentiality is key often so there are not more hurt feelings, retribution, it is a never ending viscious cycle.

Nidhgrin, doubt these changes will soon be implemented in HC though I agree with all of them. It just seems like Valeriy is never here...
