Usually I just get hit by an idea of a nice landscape, and then I try to get it heroes2alized. Then most often I just click my mouse franticly. If I'm lucky, it comes out nice.

thats a good idea. I especially like to use all the landscapes in the map and try to put all the features and objects on.

Once, from scratch I made, Heaven, the Middle and the Hell. I was wizard sent from Heaven to destroy the Necromaner all the way down. Or you can make the world.

I think that scenarios such as "Earth" or "Middle-Earth" are ones that most people will try to make. Not sure if it's bad, but that's my view. That hell and heaven is more original.

I have an idea......i think

I only have heroes three at the moment but i may be able to help you if you want my help. When i begun to create maps for heroes three i would usually , as has been said, just drag random objects onto the map and hope for the best. But now i am making maps with more story and detail, carfully placing each object. If they are placed wrong then players can get pissed off.

My first idea would be to make a map about a legend that has happened in human history. Or include such detail in your maps, like if you are playing a map your made hace some pop-up story parts saying that Zeus has done this or Achilles has done that. This would at least keep the interest of the player.

Most important though is that you should make your own maps on how you want them made, ideas from other people help but only if they are going to play the game themselves.

make a map about a leader of the barbarians me that he's father was murderd by a powerfull tower wizard and they fight as tower and stronghold that would be cool .

I've already started creating the Excalibur maps. It's a series of maps connected, because in Heroes 2 you cannot create campaigns.

no not really conan the barbarian but barbarian the barbarian or conan call it what u like it's stil nice idea hope u can make it o and i wanted to add that both of them must take ravange but in diferent ways the wizard has got to kill the barbarian to and the barbarian gota kill the wizzard so like make it a time line game within 2 months or something i think it can be a nice map for one playr or in some way many playrs racing to do it the fastest , anyways it can be nice O and GL and HF on ur map making , without luck or fun what's the point of doing it so again GL HF and tell me if u like the idea of timeline cause it's just an idea not forcing u here "grabs and a knife while everyone else looks away and threatens him to make the map".

You could make something like a desert explore.
The player starts at the last piece of dirt-land and has to venture through the desert. while doing this he will encounter many undead, nomads and medusas (the objects and units fit well in the desert) The aim might be the defeat of a town in the desert

4 playrs try to obtain a powerfull sorcery item each one starting on a secluded island without any boats or harbor and one path that leads to the middle no mines just random resources they find along the way and each of them gota deafit alot of enemys until he gets to the middle where the item is located and the first one to get the item and retrive it to their city will win . but i'm talking about not to strong creaters after all the playrs without mines won't have high level createres will they anyways u can take the idea if u like not forcing again ^^.

i like to make shapes out of the land, such as a dragon or peonix.  i usualy us heroes 3, though.
