War machines
In HOMM3, there are three slots for war machines (four if you include the catapult). However, you can only have one ballista, one first aid tent and one ammo cart even if you have room for more.
I think it should be possible to use more than one machine of each kind, but never more than three together. Then you could have two of one kind and none of another instead of one of each. Or you could have three of one kind and none of the other ones.
This idea could also work with catapults, combining the catapult slot with the others and making it possible to have more catapults – or no catapults at all. In this case, it should be possible to buy catapults at the war machine factory.
What do you think about this?

2 ballistas and 2 catapults, that's my choice. If there were gnomes, throw them in too.
I never understood the deal with the ammo charts. They do nothing for me at all.

Huh.
Both Incubus and Death saw HOMM9, when all the rest of us saw HOMM3... maybe Ozzy was right, they are the same person! Gives me something to think about!!
I like the idea, too. Maybe with multiple Ammo carts, your shooters do more damage (i.e. they get a better choice of arrows or stones or something...). I would personally have all catapults. Hmm, maybe it wouldn't work. Who knows?
I do know that you now have to bie the catapult in Heroes 4, you don't come with it!

When I think about it, I think you're right. 4 catapults and ballistics skill is a bit too powerful. What about making it impossible to have more than 2 catapults?

With the catupults....you could just have that the more of them you have, the less powerful they are in numbers. Makes no sense.
Or you could have the castle walls stronger against more than 1 catupult. Makes no sense either. The no more than 2 of those things sounds about right.
