For the Dream Theatre fans...

Check out "liquid Tension Experiment" Thats Petruccis and Portnoys solo stuff, awesome.

Don't forget, that's one of two reasons why keyboardist #3 Jordan Rudess came in the band.  I remember hearing that he toured with them during Awake...

Seems like most of us are a bunch of metalheads here! To tell the truth, I also dabble in early 90s rap, electronica, classical (Camille Saint-Saems' "Danse Macabre" is now my Necro theme on HoMM3) and just the tiniest hint of New Age.  Just a disclaimer that I'm not just a metalhead...

music...

I've noticed that a lot of gamers tend to like metal, classical, and progressive music. I think it's because the music itself is more intelligent, using lots of music theory, and requiring more from the listener before you can truly appreciate it.

Then there's also the fact that metal bands tend to have lots of fantasy-inspired lyrics, like Blind Guardian and their Tolkien kick, Manowar and their "barbarians killing everything" theme, and heck, even Running Wild has that pirate thing going.

There are good songs in all genres, but there is not good music in all genres. Boy-bands, for example, put very little emphasis on the music in their songs. Point being, the people who listen to boy-bands listen for the songs, not the music. Metal, classical, and progressive music are too complex for the average listener to enjoy considering the average attention spans of today's teenagers.

This is not meant to criticize anybody, but I'm merely stating that different people get different things from their music. I'm not surprised that a lot of people here seem interested in more complex music (ie. Dream Theater, Blind Guardian) because we all play heroes, which is a thinking game.

The best music was hard rock from the 70,s  Deep Purple, Kiss, Zep, Dio, Rainbow, UFO,Queen and many many others.  To tie it in with HOMM,  The Doors song "Spanish Caravan" is great to have as the theme of the Necropolis town. It works real well with the mood of the town.

Ozzy, there are other good battle songs, such as
Iron Maiden - Gheghis Khan
and mmm... ehhh... dunno.

Well, my favorite bands are (not nescessarily in that order):

Iron Maiden
Children of Bodom
Manowar
Symphony X
Nightwish

And I also like Pantera and Bal-Sagoth, Rhapsody (and Luca Turilli)
And musicians like Yngwie Malmsteen and Vinnie Moore

and I have nothing against that! Of course I listen to the classics too, 'cause it's not the same without them. So, you can flame me, or not, but I love:

1)Linkin Park
2)Limp Bizkit
3)Sum 41
4)Blink 182
5)Nirvana
6)Iron Maiden
7)Queen
8)Deep Purple
9)Beatles
10)Scorpions
11)Bon Jovi
12)Def Lepard
13)Alot of Russian Rock (mainstream and not)

BTW, I saw the second half (missed the first ) of Queen's 20 Greatest Hits on VH1. I can say only the top ten:

10)Somebody to love
9)Kind of magic
8)One vision
7)Radio Ga-Ga
6)We are the champions
5)Crazy little thing called love
4)Killer Queen
3)We will rock you
2)Queen + David Bowie: Under pressure
1)Bohemian rhapsody

I like what I like and I have nothing to do with that. These groups (linkin', limp, blink) aren't something I like because of the music style they fit/don't fit. It's just something I like .
I don't try to copare between them neither. Because I know that Iron, Manovar and all the other True Metalists are better. (try to compare the lyrics of the 28:37 min long "Achiles, agony and ecstasy in eight parts" to "My generation"'s)

but they are not that much alike...

both have a certain "epic fantasy" touch (especially since BG use Tolkien stuff and R created their own world) but their playing styles are very different...

well, my opinion of Rhapsody is that they are trying to be Blind Guardian...

...but they aren't all that similar, nor are they all different. It does seem that most BG fans have one thing or another to say about Rhapsody, however. I do think they're after the same audience, but their music focuses on different things.

Anybody heard of Dogstar ? hehe Keanu Reeves is in that band, thought it was kinda funny.

Sounds to me like you wouldn't know a good band if you fell over one lol.

Rammstein LOL!!
Yea, I'm sure we will all remember his songs in the future!ROFL, he'll be a rock icon up there with The Beatles And Led Zepplin hey? LMAO

Have you even listened to the new U2 album?
I think it's there best yet!

What is it with people a band is successful so they're "not cool" anymore?!?

I played in bands for over 10 years and seen it all!

I had one friend who really liked a band they were only played on the university stations and alternative stations and soon as they became popular he hated them LOL...I mean what the ****!!!

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but Rammstein?? LOL

If you like Hard rock or metal try something like Scorpions, Black sabbath, Living Color, Pearl Jam or THIN LIZZY at least the songs are written with soul and have good musicians taboot!!!!

This is weird... Notice there are aren't many/any pop "boy bands" listed... (yeah!)

I guess that that kinda stuff isn't popular among you guys... pity, cuz there is some talent there.  Although you couldn't really call them bands 'cause they don't write their music, and defintly don't play it, just sing.

My favorite bands--
1. Creed (Creed is the Absolute BEST!)
2. Blink 182
3. Nickelback
4. Green Day
5. Smash Mouth
6. No Doubt
7. Goo Goo Dolls
8. Papa Roach
9. Aerosmith
10. Hoobastank
