Three moderators per a forum
Are you implying something here?

Yearly Refreshment
You can't possibly plan it this way, things always change be it in a few months or a few years. When something comes up we discuss and deal with it, unless you believe that we are not doing our work regularly

Anyways I doubt any of those would have merit or are really required.

You're all into an attitude of

"If it works, don't touch it"

and I'm into the attitude of

"Well, it works. Now let's improve it!"

And that's how you get to great things, great forums and communities. Not by saying that everything is okay now and doing nothing, but by improving things until they are more than just "fine".

I think this forum could be improved more and it would be great if it could, however, I doubt that any of these ideas would really help the community. IMO.

I agree with point 1. Val seems to be too busy, he doesn't even look in other threads than the Avatar one (unfortunately, he doesn't have time to look in "The Renovation of HC" thread, etc)

That's a better attitude. I don't care that you don't agree with what I'm saying, as long as you agree that something should be changed.

Well you're never able to get a perfect forum since there is always something that could be changed. If you want to try and make this community better, then perhaps we should focus on the things that we post?

you dont dertermine if it needs a mod or not by it activness. the sections such as wog and workshop are quite active, atleast the wog is,if you guys dont really visit it,and most of wog community dont post outside it,doesnt mean its not r eally active.
Pandy is doing a wonderfull job in there. and i do agree to all the points of the Genie (or efreeti lord?).
i think it would be a splendid idea.

Yes you do. As an example, would you think that having VW with no moderator would be a good idea? If a forum is getting increasingly active, then you would put a moderator in that section. Of course, you should put a moderator in a forum if it is not too active but still receives a few posts every now and then. But the point is is that if a forum is active and a current mod might not be able to handle it, then another mod would be needed. Don't you think so?

And I visit the WoG forum every so often, and I can see from Today's Posts page as well. It does get some posts in there but it isn't as active as VW or the Tavern now is it?

Lol that idea is more of a hassle than beneficial. Besides anyone who is not satisfied with his forum can move if he wants to so I don't quite get the point. Not to mention that moving to a new board you may not be familiar with how things are run there and may need time to adjust and read the threads.

The forums with activity problems are the MapHaven Guild and the Glade.

All HOMM boards are less active lately - it's true - but for the reasons - it's summer, and it was long ago since Nival sent a word about heroes for last time.

For example, we can't expect much more from the H4 forum, be we can from the Map Guild. For some reason this small mapping "community" has no luck. Same for the glade.

The Altar is getting more active after new game release and durig the ICTC's. I can't see anything unnormal (except glade and MapHaven).

What I think has been lacking in this discussion is what these restructurings would add. Let me try to explain what I mean.

1. Another Admin
I have myself given some thought to this, considering the low activity of Val within the last couples of months. However, what should be taken into account is that what Val does includes two things: He has the overall charge of the community - i.e. final word on rules, and give Moderators their authority etc. - and then he runs some day-to-day bussiness things, like uploading the Avatars.

Personally, I think it's a pity that what little online-time he has during periods where he's busy goes into something as mondane as uploading custom Avatars (something which could be handled by anybody, and a task which takes an increasing amount of time since the rules for custom avatars has been slacked) - but to accomodate this, we don't really need a new Admin. It should be possible to handle this task to somebody else, a Mod or a regular member, should one find the need for this.

As for the other stuff, much of it are things that either involve Val personally - it is his community, we can't share that with somebody else! - or which requires special programing abilities (like developing new features for the board) - so it's not something just anybody could take on - and in the end, for the day-to-day bussiness of the community, these thins are not that important. Hence, I don't really see the need of another Admin.

2. Three moderators per a forum
This is already the case of several forums. Presently, the number of Mods is attempted balanced with the forum activity, albeit some fora could use more Moderators, admittedly.

3. Yearly Refreshment
Why is this better than an on-the-run evaluation as is presently the case? And no thanx, I don't want to Mod other fora (could you see me Mod Other Side, the Tavern, not to mention the Heroes 3 or 4 fora!?).

4. Monthly moderators' feedback
This has been done in some fora on-and-off. I tried it myself for a while in the temple. It was not my impression that anybody really cared about it, so in the end, I sort of felt I wasted my time. Maybe I'm mistaken about that, but what normally happens is that after a while, it sort of feels a bit futile. Of course, I think most Mods would also be willing to arrange such "events" should members contact them and show interest in this, possibly even provide suggestions.

All this was not to put your ideas into disregard - I actually think #4 is a good idea, I just don't think the overall benefit for the forum matches the amount of time and effort it takes for the Moderator to do it (and this comes from my own experience!).

Maybe for (4) we need a thread like the PPHQ/SRTTHQ where we'll have links to the best of the threads, and even record all the "threads of the months" while we're at it.

But, Alc, if you said it's not worth the effort than let's scrap the idea.
