Moderator Logs & Thread COCs

Starting soon, we moderators in Tavern will begin using two new things to assist us in mananging this forum. This thread is to notify everyone of the changes. Now I will begin explaining how everything will work.

Moderator Logs:

At the end of every first post in each thread. There will be notes that keep track of threads as to whether or not the moderators have read through the threads, cleaned the threads, whether or not QPs or penalties were given, and finally if there were any disputes or hostilities between members and how it was settled. There will also be a large database of moderator logs for all threads so we have a back-up copy.

It is most convienient for us to keep the logs in each thread, so please do not delete them.

Thread COCs:

At some point the moderators may feel that certain threads are different from others and may need more clarification from the regular posters as to how the thread should be kept. If this occurs, we will request a Thread COC. Failure to provide a Thread COC will result in either A, we do not clean the thread at all, or B, we clean it to our best judgement. If you are not satisfied with our best judgement or with the thread being filled with spam, then it is advised that you provide us with a Thread COC. Remember that a thread COC will also help newcomers understand what sort of posting is desired and what sort of posting is not desired.

I am requesting a Thread COC from Tossers Tavern.

All regular posters of that thread please submit your opinion on how the thread should be managed.

I have started something with Ravyn.

Here is what we have so far.

No serious discussion of RL. No habitual discussion about RL. Preferred topics include tossing, pink thongs, and stripping.

Agree & Disagree

I oppose Thread CoC's. This is not the damn military. I feel the code of conduct is adequately described by Valeriy in the FAQ/RULES section of Heroes Community. I think every single thread moderation can and should be looked at on a case by case basis.

Because I think every single moderation should be looked at on a case by case basis it is therefore logical to assume that a detailed log should be made by the moderator. I especially disagree with having this log made open to the general public. The entries in the log should only be open to the other moderators and the website coordinator(Valeriy) because you can't simply place a log for other people to see. Here is the reason:

Let's say you(any moderator) place a log with good detail describing what happened in a particular thread, who did what(in accordance with said FAQ/RULES preset by Valeriy), and what actions you took as moderator. Heroes Community is full of opinionated people. Someone may see the entry and declare the action taken by the mod to be inappropriate, offensive, etc(having not been privy to all the details concerning the actions taken by the Moderator). I think posting the logs for everyone to see may lead to what we sociopaths call "breaking the two-minute rule" of a conversation. (i.e.): If a person hasn't been involved in the conversation for at least two minutes prior to making a comment then they don't know what the entire conversation was about to begin with, and thus shouldn't be making any comments on it.

We are only going to put stuff like.

RSF (7/14/04)
read (12-15)
cleaned (12-15)

It's so we don't overlap each others work in such a large forum.

Actually Thread COCs were approved by Val as long as all mods agreed in that particular forum. It's more or less to clarify the vague terms of "funny, interesting, and on-topic" since they vary from person to person and from thread to thread.

This is exactly WHY we want the Thread COC's, becuase we AGREE that thread moderation should be done on a case by case basis. What is considered spam in one thread is considered acceptable in another. Those "rules" should be set by either 1)the thread creator or 2)the people that post in it. We want these rules spelled out a little bit, not so we can control things, so you the posters can. That way you 1)don't have people posting in your thread in an unacceptable manner (recent events in the Tossers Tavern come to mind) and 2) that way WE as Mods know what you deem as "ok". If you see it as a funny haha thread where it is ok for a little bit of spam and joking/tossing to go on then we don't want to come in and delete the spam and yell at people for poking at each other. But if it's a serious thread, and you intend for it to be serious and you want all the BS deleted, then we know that is what is intended and we know it's ok to moderate that way. And a lot of it comes from being tired of being criticized when we moderate wrong. There are too many different personalities in a large community like this and it is difficult for us to know whether some posts are garbage or treasures because everyones opinion is different. It's not a cut and dry situation. We are just trying to give you the members a bit more power because if we go straight up by Val's COC then by the rule there is NO SPAMMING anywhere but in the Volcanic Wastelands. Do you really want us to adhere to that in every other forum?!?

Let's Cross The Bridge When We Get To It

I promise to be as objective as possible until a situation arises. Not if but when it does, let's be sure to discuss the argument with plenty of respect and a good ear to what's being said shall we?

There really isn't much we can do about behind the screen relationships and motives that might be secretly influencing certain unobjective decisions. Because of this I think it is important to take two sets of votes. A moderator vote and a member vote. If the two ever clash then we can ultimately approach Valeriy for the final say, but I think most of the Mods and the members are similar in their congruous desire for a happy Heroes Community. I'm optimistic. I don't think we'll have too many problems.

Thread moderation is cool for most threads, but I dunno how well it will work for tossers tavern cause it has been a place for everyone to go just to spurt stuff off the top of there head with no meaning and such, but I do think thread moderation is a good idea for the most part, it might help on spam and such.

And just as equally you're not listening either.
It seems that Thread CoC's and Mod logs are here to stay.
I think we all just have to accept the fact now.
I'm sure in a month's time we'll all see them as not a 'police' thing, they'll be just part of the normal run of things.
Then we'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

WHats the difference.
He does whatever he wants anyways regardless so whats the use.
He might as well do whatever he wants regardless, no one hears us anyways because Sox changed this place to a mod territory.
We all might as well go to a diferent Message board because soon Mods will take over this forum which was cool until he came in & messed stuff up like this here.

Theres no need for it.
Were not kids,we have rights if theres somethang to talk about, it's stupid & a waste of time.

This place was already a good place, rarely any problems,Not arguments,TT was a cool place to be in & everythang was cool UNTIL Sox came in & acted like Thy king.

In my opinion, thread moderation should only be done when 1) a thread violates the HC CoC, or 2) someone asks for a mod to clean it up. Therefore, there is no need for thread CoCs. As Consis said, this isn't the military.

I understand if you moderators delete threads that in one week didn't make 10 posts but ... you have something against me ... and maybe the heroes members are on vacation and will not post for weeks ... so ... i propose you should delete threads that don't make 10 replys in 2 weeks ... and threads with malicious content ...

Let this thread has 10 posts per week so that it wont get deleted... If this measeure would be taken, we will add al threads to the wastelands... Thanks God this forum hasn't this rule...
