"directplay failed to start a listening connection"

i had this before
i think its your router
i did a virus scan and for some reason it worked after

hmm
It might very well be a virus... but ive done 3 scans of viruses and it found some, but didnt work... as for the router i disabled my firewall and it didnt work... and im n ot real good at these router things,... so all hints are accepted

Well ... here's my opinion ...
Ok ...
If you want to play on the net ... i honestly don't know ...
If you want to play on a local LAN ... then i can help ...
Ok ... delete/uninstall heroes .... reinstall direct x .... run Network Setup Wizard ... check in directx if ipx works ... if it does ... the game should work ...
if it doesn't ... you should reinstall the network adapter and then do those things i mentioned earlier ...
notify me if it still doesn't work ...

okay
okay problem is with direct x and that drectplay doesnt work properly...problem now is that when i try to install direct x again it says that couldnt install needed file when its like 95% done.

Here's how to solve your problem :
FORMAT !!!
(if u don't know ... that means save all the important stuff on some cd-rw-s and erase your hard-drive)
Then install DirectX 9....
Before you do this (but you say that dxplay doesn't work)
try another game on the ZOne ...
It may be also the fault of a firewall , some spyware ... virus , trojan ,worm , advertising  ....
Or it might also be your internet connection ...

problem solved. I can play again.... it was in directx and i had to delete it in a special way...thx for posts and ideas.
