pro

I am using the pro version.

And sadly, I prolly won't be home tonight until late =x

I'm just baffled because I know people have gotten it to run in xp pro.  Does it matter that my file system is nt instead of fat32?

Addendum: I do have another system... it's older than heck.  233mhz with a 4mb vid card, 16bit sound blaster and so on.  Runs it perfectly.  But I need infinite patience because it's horribly slow and laggy.

I run h3 on pro and home at home. works like a charm.

othen then sound/video drivers i dont know what to tell you.

other then when the program crashes XP should tell you why it crashed, you know the whole send error report, then it links you to a windows page and it will say something like error encountered using video drivers, then fix thous.

the only thing i can think of is your DVD drive. because other then that everything you said seems kosher.

nope

Was gone several days, just seeing this now.

I get no error message at all - just heroes has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Just incredibly frustrating.

Has there been a driver update for the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 VERY recently?  I'm running out of ideas as to what it could be.

Try playing without the sound and increase the game speed( worked on my exPC- a P133 with 32MbRam and 1mb video  memory)

I have Windows XP Home Edidtion, my file system is Fat32, I also use a DVD-ROM drive and Heoes 3 complete worked fine for me.

My video card is a Radeon 7000series though.  Hope you get it fixed.

File system doesn't matter

I have XP Pro with NTFS, works fine.

I still say you need to reformat and reinstall XP.  With a fresh install, there are a lot less variables to deal with.  Besides, you've tried everything else at least twice.

The problem might be WinXP. Try the Program compatibility wizard. It helps(sometimes)...

Er, Mitz? That's been covered, both in this thread and the other one.

Compatibility isn't an issue.  Neither is XP.  Zarni's copy of XP might have a problem, but the game does run on the OS.

Oh, hey Zarni, I see you asked how to disable that *bleep*ing error-reporting box.

Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Error Reporting button (bottom right)

It won't stop the crashes, but it'll keep XP from begging to call home..

Then the problem might be that the game is pirated...

No

The game is NOT pirated. It is purchased.  I do not use or abet piracy in any way.

I cannot imagine what reformatting/reinstalling XP would possibly accomplish.  Every other game I own plays like a dream.  It's got to be something simple.

Well first of all you can forget about the OS problem, it's nothing to do with XP, not directly at least. I've been playing homm series for ages, one day we decide to go to a friends home for a night (and the following day) of non-stop homm3 and what we find is a non-working homm3 armageddon's blade on xp.

the reason is : "DIRECT-X"
yeah that's true. some versions of direct-x after the version 8.1 (i think it was 8.1) will not start many games on xp (or on 98 for that matter). the same type of problem can be seen on might&magic 6. try changing your direct-x version. I don't know which ones can be used to play homm3 on xp ('cause I use 98).
This might be your problem (or might not be I can't tell for sure, not without looking at your machine myself), can any of you guys with similar OS'es post your direct-x versions (use : run=>dxdiag)
that might help

oh by the way, we just blew the xp and installed 98 that night (it took 3 hrs to completely finish all the work) but played well no matter what ) (note: 98 doesn't have higher versions of direct-x when first installed but xp does)

I had to install if from my son's older computer. I have and Area 51 and had to install it from my home network. Once I set up the path the my computer from my sons computer it worked fine.

This of course is if you have such a set up as a home network with and older system attached.

1) must instal from the older system through the network. Wont work from sharing his CD drive and installing from your computer.

I have done this successfully with homm3 and homm4.

hey Wooop are you still listening?
Don't reinstall your XP and all that!

I just had your problem minutes ago and solved it for my computer. I have XP Home, SB Audigy ES, FX 5900XT videocard and DirectX 9.0b. You can't lower your version of DirectX I think so happily it was not that.

In my computer there are two cd-playing drives: a 16x48x dvd drive and a 52x32x52 cd-rewriter.

I installed the game from the dvd drive and that went ok. But it wouldn't start.

But when I use the cd-rw drive, it will start!

Hope you have 2 drives too...

whoa

Are you saying I can play from my CDRW drive?

We have identical computers... donn to the version of direct x and the dvd drive.

Did you install from dvd and play from cdrw?  I didn't think you could do that.

Let me know exactly what you did.  I'm dying to know.

Hi,

I installed using dvd drive. Didn't realize there would be problems later, so used my regular drive.

I didn't uninstall the game (if I remember right). I just inserted the disc into the other drive. I think H3 scans all your cd drives for the disc, doesn't look in the registry for your install drive.

And if it does, you could change it in the registry.

I have encountered some (not frequent but still) dropbacks to desktop that I didn't have on my old W98 computer. I don't think compatibility modes made it any better, I'm running it on WinXP mode at the moment.

bleah

Bringing this back to the top in hopes that I can find help.

I desperately want to play this.  Tried installing from cdrw, and playing on it or dvd.  No.

Tried the opposite.  No.

Win xp pro, dx latest version.

Can't play a lot of games like AOE2, etc along with heroes 3 complete.  Would be in your eternal debt if anyone can help.

man you sure have a funy way of explaining stuff!

H3 complete has 2 cd'sne for install, the other one for play. You just have to install the first disk and folow the instuctions, it's very intuitive.
AFAIK this has nothing to do with the dvd.(is it you want to use the virtual drive?)
Is suggest you to paly with your disk 2 in.
