Does Any One Care About the Red Stars

It seems that it is impossible to get at least one quality point, or even a thrid star. Does anyone care about those little red stars?

come on

I don't think anybody cares for the stars, but i think it's a nice extra to have. The moderators are doing this entirely for fun, i think a little respect would be in order.

If you don't care for red stars there shouldn't be a problem with them.

I'm not dissing the red stars, I like them. It was just a question. The red stars do add more flavor, but the yellow stars have been there for a while and are already an established rank figure. Meanwhile the red stars...you don't know how to get them, don't know exactly what they mean, and it seems their based upon the moderators opinion. No offense to the moderators from this post of course, like I said I like the red stars. Just I was wondering if soem people don't.

I care about them...

Not!

I could add some quality points to few posters if I could choose which one get them.
I myself hardly earn my quality post.

Concerning those who post just to get yellow stars...
I must laugh.
Could there be more pathetic human being? Posting messages like saying "I hate that" and nothing else to get some fame?
This isn't chat board, this is message board. Just look how long messages example Ichon writes especially into one thread. How you could even compare these messages even if "I hate that" would be posted to thread concerning HoMM matter and Ichon post concerning nothing really related into it.

The number of post doesn't matter, other thing is does the quality points either?

If I would do the system I would start red stars from zero stars and give more quality points from time to time.
However there's the problem that these quality posters could be seen as people with more important opinion about everything than all the others.
And everyone's opinion should be equally important. However there are people who just don't being able to make their post understandable.

Maybe even this message ísn't understandable...
I don't mind about the stars at all, maybe there are people that do. This community is for sharing each others opinion and I really like to communicate people who love the same game as I. Also it's funny to watch some of the threads that doesn't concern HoMM at all. It's about knowing people and their characteristics. I would surely say that I try not on to anyones toes, especially like Shae...
(No offend here, Shae knows what I mean)...

Maybe the stars are important for someone, but they aren't really essential to this community, I believe.

We don't want to rush things with Red Stars, as we are still experimenting with it. That's why only a few people got points so far, but expect to see more during the following weeks.

As for why we start with 2 stars: this way, we can penalize rude people by removing one or multiple red stars. If you see someone with only one star (or even none), beware! This person probably did some bad things on the Community!

If you have any other question, feel free to ask.

But question is...

Does anybody care about red stars?
If you gonna take some of them away because someone did something badly does this mean that this person would care about red stars?
Or should all the other posters care if one says his opinion about something but he has only one half of red star left?
And I say that there are already people who could be punished.

But until then and after that you have fully done the starsystem it's all about how posters see each others messages...

Red Stars?

I think the moderators are wise men who work their butts off so the rest of us can have a place to meet and discuss Heroes related issues. Talented men whos only reward is helping their fellow man. Often neglected and reviled they continue to serve so that we may have a little fun.

I think the stars are a wonderful idea and I would be proud to own one!! Keep up the good work guys and God bless you!

Another reason to have red stars is to find where the top notch ideas are.  I for one like to read good ideas especially when I disagree with them.

Idea: when a red star is awarded in a thread, also put it under the thread discription.  If I saw an "interesting" or "inspiring" rated thread and saw two or three red stars under it it would be sure to read it.

Idea:  when the thread is just two people bickering give it a "spat" or "below average" rating so that I could be sure to miss it.

my 1 cent

the organizers of this side are doing a great job, no question. if there are people who are interested in stars, why not. I don't care about them too much (maybe that'll change when I get a quality point j/k)
if I see the good ol' Piquedram portrait or that avatar-less Ich** name beside a post (for example), that counts more than any red star and I will surely read the post.
Same holds the other way round.

I'm not sure what to make of them yet

But how long does it take for a person to get a red star taken away from them? And how bad is a bad post? Is there a difference between bad and just merely 'post count upping'? I have a great amount of respect for the people who actually take the time to sit down and say something, and I'm not talking about a 3 hour stint (do you sit here until you rack your brain for something to say?) where you post one liners in each of the thousand threads that the Community has, this stuff for me is a total waste of space and time.

If the red stars disappeared tomorrow I'd probably be the last to notice. Truth be told, I'm paying a lot less attention to stars and avatars than I used to (I know who's 'skip' material and who isn't) and spending much more time trying to understand poster's opinions (some of the guys who have 1 or 2 posts have got a real fresh approach to the Community and I always look forward to their ideas).

Angelspit, if someone has no stars, that doesn't prevent them from posting crap and getting a high post count. Let's face it, there are quite a few people out there who pointedly ignore the red stars and still go for the yellow because they're easier to get and the recognition that goes with them is instant. I actually saw one guy post the same reply on three different threads, word for word...

Then again, this is a message board and freedom of speech is permitted to a certain extent (anyone remember Mad Unicorn's censorship thread? lol!), yet at the same time we have to realize that it's not free and there are rules and boundaries which must be respected. To be honest, I would completely understand if the moderators got a little hard and started blitzing people for abuse of the board, but like I said before, freedom of speech is permitted. Pity Mao Tse Tung wasn't a moderator...

Shae, am I 'skip' material? I'd like to know that because if I knew that, I'd know if I need to improve my posts. It's hard to know if your posts are good or bad. And knowing that thing, would help everybody earning red stars. Please tell me who I am to you. Am I just another poster on this board? Or maybe someone you can really start an interesting conversation with? I'd like to know what people think about me, because - as I said before - it's very hard to decide if you're a good poster or not. And now, something for the moderators: will I get a quality point for this post lol?*

That's the only thing I don't like about the red stars. Just as a friendly suggestion, couldn't we have like a voting poll at the end of post to evaluate its worth? That would be too much though, I know. Opinion is a very biased tool that you can use to your advantage if you feel necesary.

Quality Posts

Lol , seriously  dont you think a poll at the end of each post would be a bit crazy.  I dont see anyone offering their time and efforts to tally and report these things. and the moderators are just that..not full time high payed employees of the board. they are also fans of the game that have made an extra effort to support the game they love

I think it just boils down to common sense. Post your thoughts. everyone try to be considerate of each other to some extent (as it says in the Code of conduct) like not calling names, If you disagree fine. try to put it in a decent form tho. Just post your thoughts opinions and strategy's, try to start thoughts or discussions. If they are considered quality...so be it...if no....that's fine too.  Have a good time and we all beneifit because we have a great place for all who love this game to discuss it

Well, that's the point of it. Quality posters now have a fun way to get some recognition, even if they don't care about the Red Star system (I think this thread is very funny, I love it). Our goal with this new feature is to help good posters (with or without Red Stars) become role models for new members, and promote quality over quantity. It's not a three strikes system, meaning that you won't get banned after a specific number of spam posts. It will just allow us moderators to remember who did bad things in the past and better react when a problem happens on the boards.

It seems taht you are tryign to control all that spaming and stuff that goes on here. But I wonder how you can do that without inforcing a punishment along with it. I guess you are using the red stars as to warn people not to mess with them? It appears most people don't even care for the red stars, they get so addicted to the yellow ones that nothign else is around.
And when you say bad things and reacting to problems, I wonder how you coudl do that.
Hmm...I sound a little on the offensive side, so I'll lighten up.
But your thoughts on getting people to listen to the "quality" posters is working. I see the red stars and carefulyl think over what somebody with some quality points has to say.
The system is good, I don't know how it can improve, but there seems to be a glitch.

Yes, we can see this as a kind of warning. If the member doesn't want to follow the rules (which never happened as far as I know), other means would be considered.

Quote:

Before relying to banning a member, we would consider editing or removing offensive posts, warn the member about his or her behavior and explain why there are rules on a message board. The Red Star system could help us track the number of infringements commited by the member, and still allow this member to recover his points. After all, both bonuses and penalties are not permanent.

Quote:

Great! That's the kind of thing we wanted to hear about when we implemented the new system. I'm glad it has a positive effect.
