My True Awakening... As a Member, as a Moderator, as a Person...

Everyone. I apologize for what I'm about to say as I think it probably goes completely against everything I should do as a mod. But someone that no longer matters.

Thanks to a number of things in my life but finally Lich helped me realize. Realize the truth in this thread. That the internet has sucked us all in, that we wouldn't be here if it wasn't to replace something else that wasn't there. There is a void in our lives somewhere and we fill it with this message board. For me it has been RL life interaction. It always has been.

However I can definitely thank this online messenging experience greatfully. It has brought a joy that I can bring with me into the Real World. I have found my joy for writing. My love for writing. It is a passion that I will always bear. This has been a happy place in my life, but now I must move on. This message board has served it purpose and has warmed out its welcome in my life. I'm am going off to college to become an Engineer. I want to enjoy the college experience. I want to start a band. I want to write stories. I want to pick up chicks. I want to do everything, because I know that life is out there waiting for me.

The reason I leave now is because I know that message boards is and will never be the passion of my life. There is something else there waiting to fill the void I have created for myself. It is time to replace the message board with a rock and roll band with partying with friends, with having one last hoorah before I go off to college. I can fill my void with basically anything. Basically everything. The options are limitless when you grasp and wield the wonders of RL. With internet, it is limited. You only dig yourself farther and farther away from reality. Yes I will admit it is a nice cosy warm place to spend when you need time to yourself, but when it gets in the way of other things in life it is not good.

Although it has seemed like it wasn't getting in the way of anything is because the internet puts blinders around your eyes, so you are tunnel-visioned to see only what is tangible. After I leave HC, I will take off the blinders and see all the opportunities that have been waiting for me. All the opportunities that I have missed, because rather than searching out for all the opportunities in life, I have been searching for new websites on google. Now tell me. What is better: finding the passion of your life whether it is a hobby, a sport, an activity, or even another person that will stay with you for the rest of your life... OR enjoying this cool new thread that will last for about a month or two?

Again internet is the replacement for something in RL that you have not searched out and found for yourself. Everytime you come here, it is because there is a lack of something in RL. Whether or not you call it coincidence or circumstances, it is not truly coincidental. Had you have more options of things in RL to fill that void, you would not be reading this post right now. Every friend you have on the internet is a replacement for a friend that you do not have in RL. Now I'm not saying to simply abandon all your friends on the internet. It is good to have those friends. However just remember that you should probably search out new things in RL before you search out things on the internet.

Remember the internet is the place where you have chosen to spend the time you have set aside for yourself. Don't take too much time though.

I guess my message ends here. When I have filled the voids in my life, I may return sporadically. Maybe join an RP, since I love writing so much.

Now a few messages to members since I have not decided if I will even return to read the replies from this thread.

Perhaps the first member I felt I could consider a close friend as far as online terms. He is gone now for most likely the same reasons as myself. I told him to just leave without ever saying anything and I would know why he never returned. I knew I would try to convince him to stay.

Shadowcaster - I've joined with you Shadow. We are off to college to face the world. Thank you so much for introducing me to writing. Had you never posted in Let's Have War, I would never be the writer with the passion for it I have today.

Lord Woock - I've never been really close to you, but we've always talked online often. I'm sorry about your town. You understand what I mean. I just hope you will one day be able to do as what I do now. I bet you'll find yourself in these shoes when you go off to college, although you'll probably take offense to this post right now.

Dingo - I really enjoyed talking to you online. I still would like to finish that Homm game before I go off to college.

Dragon Slayer - I am certain that you have plenty of things going for you in RL and will probably never be sucked into the internet. Maybe have a few minor bouts here and there. I have propose that you will be my replacement as moderator. It is up to Val and the Modsquad if you join.

Asmodean - I had a wonderful time with you in LHW as well as creating our own language and sharing our music with one another.

Pandora - Although I would say we haven't been friends for long. I've enjoyed talking with you. Good luck with your kids. Kids something I'm not ready for quite yet. That is still several stages later in my life. Unless things change, I still plan to post in the Roleplay.

Lich - Thank you for opening my eyes tonight. Just thank you. I hope you come back to read this.

Gorman - I've enjoyed talking to you online as well as posting with you in Glade.

Ravyn - I'm looking forward to writing with you in Forgotten Realms. Too bad I could never peak your interest in Glade.

I guess that would be just about everybody. If anyone feels left out, I apologize. I checked everyone on my buddy lists on MSN and AIM.

Almost forgot one more person. Not really a friend, but someone I also need to thank.

TUM - Your thread is very funny. The only reason why other members are getting upset is because the thread has a lot of truth to it and they are ashamed of themselves. But do not get down on yourselves. The only thing you lack is confidence. Confidence is probably 90% of the battle in life. Just like how people say Attitude is 90% of life. Confidence is part of that attitude. You also helped open my eyes.

Well anyway I'm getting off on a tangent. I need to give you my updates, since I won't be around here to read them anymore.

+5 for resigning as Moderator
+1 for admitting he had been putting internet before RL
+2 for knowing why he had thought differently
+5 for making this post in hopes of inspiring others to do the same
-1 for denying that he wasn't staring at the picture of the blonde for too long
+1 for saying that LHW was the greatest thread when it is TUMs thread. He was right all along. Now I can only hope that this thread will be able to top his thread
-1 for still thinking that the female dork was hot (come on she was cute)

I hope this post inspires people to leave their computers and go out into the real world, maybe not abandon HC, but take some more time to really go after life, enjoy it find new passions in life, fill more of those voids.

One final thing. I will admit one thing. Aculias was right about one thing. I was a little bit bias towards Dingo, but I don't think any favoritism would have gone farther than that. It was very minor, nothing blatent and detrimental to HC. Just a small case of nepotism, since I considered Dingo to be my friend.

Edit: Just wanted to remind myself of what it was like to edit without waiting for floodprotection one last time...

Oh yeah one more thing. If you think this thread belongs in Other Side, or should be spammed to death in Tavern... Just do with it whatever you wish. I only hope that it is taken seriously.

hehe

the story of a n00b, that became a spammer... that became a serious poster who became a moderator... and now his insightful enough to leave

(sorry, watched gladiator again last nite )

anyways, everytime someone leave i tell myself not too post in it the next time because everyone has a tendency of coming back

And as usual i just have to say something anyway hehe.

It doesnt make sense to me though.

Now i dont know about many of you, but i think you are taking HC alittle to seriously hehe.

For me HC is a way to reduce boredom, its not a substitute for something. But when i got nothing to do its easy to log on and have a laugh or two or remind someone how much of a tosser they are

Nah seriously, i dont think it has to be black/white. There is a balance to find in all of this. As with everything else.

Having serious things to do doesnt have to mean that you can peak in every now and then. But if you believe HC and internet as a whole takes up too much of your time i can understand your moderator resignation.

A resignation i dont like.

Even if its better for you its a loss for this community, i have rated you as the moderator with highest potential because of as listed earlier.. your dedication and willingness to improve.

Therefor i think its bad for you to resign, though i still hope and i do expect you to come back every now and then aswell.. just find that balance you need.

oh.. and have fun while doing it!

RedSoxFan3,

I suppose I'm finding out just how common it is to graduate from this community. Some people come here at a young age, probably most, and grow into a new person before heading off towards what life may bring them.

I find myself at the opposite end of the spectrum. I have been hammered by life and this is a good place to quietly rest in my years of fatherhood. There really isn't hardly anyone who visits these forums. The community has a large number of members but only about 5% actually post here with any sense of regularity. I like it this way though. It's sort of like a cottage off in the mountains away from the mainstream jargon that one usually finds bustling down in the big cities.

I also find Heroes Community to be of more international participation that any of my other walks of life before coming here. I enjoy the exotic opinions of people from far off lands. What ever the case may be, it is indeed a quaint little group of people with a variety of things to say.

I hope that one day you realize that Heroes Community is a special place that you aren't going to find elsewhere RedSoxFan3. I've had a career, married, and now father three children, and I can tell you that it's very nice to be here. Perhaps you'll come back and chat for a while. I look forward to hearing all about the many experiences and stories you'll have if you decide to grace us once more. Until then my friend, I'll smile and think of you often.

Sincerely, Jake "Consis" Batchelor

I must agree with Stiven, you take this to seriously. Maybe it's because you came a MOD and a big part of HC became "things you had to do" which killed of some good part of being here, which gave you your void.

I Hope you'll find what you must seek, either it be the right woman, fame and fortune, money, friends, or all of it. Sox, we'll miss you.

You know what this is? We lost another good member to RL. If this continues, there will be no HC left. I agree that RL is important, but that void, for me, is filled with the Internet. Yes, RSF, I know you said that it can be filled with something else, something called "your true calling", but I don't mind and I don't care that the Internet fills it.

I've really enjoyed our talks, and the way you approach everything with an open mind and a big ol' grin, you do that in RL and you're going to be just fine!

There is so much out there to see and do, and I really believe that as long as you're following your heart, you're making the right call. I'm proud of you young tosser

Have fun, and we'll talk soon

PS: you will keep posting in our Forgotten Realms story Val taught me about some good voodoo the other nite, don't make me have to use it on you hehe

This is for you RSF

A lonely cry for help reaching out for help to anyone
A silent prayer to God to help you on your way
I've been depressed so long
It's hard to remember when I was happy
I've felt like suicide a dozen times or more
But that's the easy way, that's the selfish way
the hardest part is to get on with your life

You're searching in the dark
clutching at straws to find a way
You take the Tarot cards and throw them to the wind

Your questions your beliefs,
your inner thoughts, your whole existence
And if there is a God then answer if you will
And tell me of my fate, tell me of my place
Tell me if I'll ever rest in peace

If you could live your life again
Would you change a thing or leave all the same
If you had the chance again
Would you change a thing at all
When you look back at your past
Can you say that you are proud of what we've done
Are there times when you believe
That the right you thought was wrong

All of my life I have believed
Judgement of Heaven is waiting for me

Don't make fun of him. He just had a burst of creativity. Now, I hate it when people leave. "But RL is important, blah, blah, blah." I know this. However, if your RL gets in the way of HC, then change RL, not leave from HC.
