Fighting with parents !

Hmm ... another useless but interesting post for you young members like myself .
Ok , let's get into the subject ! Parents ....

1.Why aren't parents satisfied by anything you do , even if you save the world ?

2.Why don't they let us listen to any kind of music , especially music we like , or watch the type of movies that we like ?

3.Why is this "war" between the 60's and the present ?
------------------------------------------------------
ok ... my opinions below !

1.I really don't understand ... they say i'm lazy although i do some work once a while , they say i have bad grades
because i make my homework with the tv on and i don't understand anything ... well ... wrong ! ... the lazy business maybe true , but they're overreacting , and the school stuff is very very false because i understand perfectly , but the teachers don't understand me ...

2.What's wrong with listening Dimmu Borgir , Eminem , Prodigy , SOAD and Jesus Martyr ? Should i listen the Beatles , Queen or some old band that my parents worship ???

3.It's in all fields ... the parents make examples like : "But when i was your age i studied at nights and i made little robots of wood" and stuff like that .... "Why don't you do anything ?" ... why don't they agree with anything ? from food to music , from activities to sleep time (?) ... why does the "old" generation like to annoy and to fight the young ones ???

I'm unsure what problems you may have had with your parents...I seemed to get along much better after I moved out when I turned 18. I got a job, live in my own house, pay my own bills, so I understand much about what my parents had to go through. I'm sure they just want you to live a good life so you don't have to break your back when you're older. They probably want you to go to college so you can get a good job where you just sit behind an office desk all day.

PS. As for the music thing...well...Eminem talks about killing his parents so maybe your's are getting the wrong idea?

I camed from work( a soft park), and my dad asks me: " What did you do there?" I was like... "wth? Should I explain you the proceses of making a website in Flash or what? I never ask you what you do at work!" and he says... "No it's different... I was asking you beacuse in the last days you haven't been working to much!" Really now?!? What should I have told him?... Jus hope I get my first payment soon enough...

Answers to questions:

1. My parents lack of nice words. I know they are extremly grateful when I help them out at the farm (they have cows ), but they don't say it too much. I hear it from my sisters. I think they can be very satisfied and grateful, but they don't know how to say it.

2. Well... It depends. It can be because they care for you and love you and they don't want you to sit up whole nights "watching mind-numbing, spirit chrushing game shows" and films, destroying your mind and heart. Or they just don't like those films, that music.

3. War? I thought the 60's were back! But I think they just want you to do something. Hug a tree! Kill a wolf with your bare hands! Hunt flies! Take a swin! Paint a picture! Anything!

Anyway, I think my parents care to much about me. But I guess that's just what's it like to be a mother/father...

Your parents always want what is best for you. And you know, they are always right about spending too much time on the computer. Wont you guys be more right when you are parents than some punk with 2 years of experience in real life?

Boy, i wish the members with kids had seen this thread and see what they will have to say.

Hehehehe... When i saw this thread, it was just about to make it myself. But it should be moved to "Other side of the moniter"

I'm a 16 year old boy. Which can't play much sports, i use a lot of time on my computer. I'm overweight. My legs ain't functioning right. I'm a heavy metal fanatic.

This isn't the ideal wishkid ^_^ Guess who much trouble i go through. Every day in and out listening to my dad, about how much he wants a kid which is really good at sports, how he want's me to play soccer. My mother which want's me to lose weight, and she has even told me that it is impossible, but still. She nags. And Nags. AND NAGS!

Every family member hates the music that i like.

I'm the first one in my family, which goes to High School. And STILL it isn't good enough.

They wan't me to do all these things... To improove my looks, which only takes time and never works..
So one day i told them that i was tired of it, that they could relax, i was a happy kid. Wow. They startet blaming me for EVERYTHING. But, my mom has whiplash and my dad has a heart condition, so i can't say anything mean or anything. I try to stay happy, i really do.. but everything is against me. But once and a while, some rays of sunshine comes upon me, helping me out of what troubles i may have. They could be almost everything, just that someone tells me that they enjoy my company, that i'm funny, you name it. It's wonderful when you hear those words, that someone would be lost without you. That there is a reason for you being here, that you have a meaning in life. Maybe you can't find one right now, but at some point, one always comes a long. And there are many meanings in this life, for everyone.

Well ... that's nice ...
But did you mean in your whole family (grandpa...) ??

And the sports stuff , well as i understood you are a bit chubby (spelling?) ... well think it the other way ... i eat more than my whole family (sis , mom , dad , cat) and i don't get fat ... maybe it's because once in a while i get out for a couple of hours in the park with my rollerblades and run for about 10 km , then i get out and play some basketball ...
i recommend you get out in an evening for at least 2 hours and run like hell ... then you go to bed ... without eating ... that should work to lose pounds in about one week ...

Hmmm.... replying to the first post in the thread.

1. Well, I don't really mind, if they are not satisfied. The main thing is that they want us to achieve more and more. Even if we "save the world" and they do not show any sign of satisfaction, we should know they have it in their hearts.

Other thing is that they want us to be better than they once were...

Although, my words are nothing but truth, I think there are more of things such as these.

2. Simply they want us not to be misguided... sometimes a person may become a bit TOO ambitious. He would want to know everything about that thing, ie. music band or movie, even if it is impossible.

They also don't want us to learn, see or listen to some things that can teach bad words, create bad thoughts or else.. they want us to be happy about that, but they do not know that we are different than they are and they make a lot of mistakes very often

3. There is no war... we only have different thoughts, different hobbies, things we like and other stuff that they may think are bad or "unhealthy" for us...

___

These words (replies) are only thoughts of RK, 13yr old boy.

P.S. I didn't want to post miles long posts, so I shortened the reply as much as I can

Uhm...well my parents dont agree with anything I do...see, when someone says something crappy to my friends they're gonna get what's comming to em, and it will (guaranteed) hurt. See...my parents dont believe in violence. They made me rip up one of my books that I had written, because they thought it was "evil." Then, all my drawings and paintings were also ripped up because they were "demonic." Notice the quotation? And also, they hate my music. And also, I HATE the color pink. So just to piss me off, my family buys me pink crap and makes me wear it.

I really dont see any respect here. And still.....see....my dream is to become an actress/singer, and I cant to american idol cuz its 18 and over and all that fun crappy stuff. And then my golden moment comes when all these people from TV shows and movies and magazines were coming to my town to have auditions. Well guess what. My parents wouldnt even let me go to the auditions because they thought that if I made it, I wouldn't have time for school. No shiz I wouldnt have time for school! I'd be making money! And still, I'd get a tutor. Well...thats basically all I'm gonna say. Sounds sad eh?

TheRealDeal, I know you cant run, but would you be able to use one of those elyptical running machines, you dont relly put weight on your heels so it may be a solution worth looking into.

Most parents don't want their kids to do the stuff they did as children, so they place rules and boundries, they try to censor you to keep you from becoming evil so in there own way they usualy do whats in your best interests,

come back in 4 years or so, and you will realise this.

Parents want their children to turn off the TVs and the computers and live their lives because parents know all too well how short childhood is.

My kids love video games and TV, but I am proud to be one of those "evil" parents that will take my kids out to play, show them new things at every opportunity and do whatever I can to keep them off electronics. Now I don't ban them from games and TV, but I limit it.

Its just too easy nowadays for kids to do nothing but 'watch' rather than go out and 'do' and its sad!

More and more children are having obesity problems and attention defecit problems and I think it is the fault of kids being too influenced and obsessed with all the different electronic babyitters out there. Actually scratch that - its the fault of the parents who let those things rule their kids.

There is so much more to do than sit inside, and half the time kids don't even realize it because they're too busy online or playing {insert whichever gaming console here}.

I have friends whose kids have never been to the public library , who will only read if its for school... it makes me sad.

I think parents have to; at every turn encourage their kids to go out and live - to "do" rather than watch.

I won't preach about how important school is, but dammit it is! Your future depends on your education, and your education depends on what you put into it! Turn off the TV and do your homework!

It may seem mean to you guys that your parents nag at you and try to 'tell you what to do' but you know what? Having parents that are involved in your life and actively interested in you and how you're doing is a blessing, there are so many kids out there that can only dream of such a thing.

To Ruby, its really sad that your parents discourage your creativity - maybe you have a counsellor at school that can help you find art clubs, or other ways that you can develop your talent without their aid?

ya you could draw something "nice" but put "evil" things into it, like ddraw the tail out of little itty bitty skulls or something

it is a shame your parents try to limit you, but what were you drawing? i would rip up my kids pictures if they were drawing people being raped/beheaded or stabbed or something similer, (there are few things i wouldnt accept but some)

I agree that Television and electronics in general are distroying our youths, what my parents did was get me some laser guns (not the newer ones but the old ones) where you would attach a bandana on your head and when your shjot it would zap your temples (kinda creepy now that i think of it). anyhoo it got us outside running like maniacs trying not to get shocked.

All I drew was a person. Just one person. Nothing evil about it. I drew a person standing, normal clothes, normal face, holding a skateboard. That's all I ever did. They think my "style" of drawing is "evil" and "demonic."

They just dont see things the right way. They're scared that I'll get into drugs or something. I know. It's really really messed up.

Ruby, I dodn't mean that you need a counselling - I meant that maybe a school counsellor could direct you to some free clubs or courses. Then you wouldn't need to ask your parents for money, it would be somewhere you could go on your own to pursue your art.

When I was in highschool, we had a great counsellor that kept up on absolutely everything, so if you wanted to ever know what your options were - he was the guy to aim you in the direction you wanted

Have you considered writing them a letter explaining how you feel? It may sound silly, but sometimes it can be a good way for you to express everything you're feeling without them interjection their opinions before you can finish.

If you explained to them that art is a form of self expression for you, and that its important to you - maybe they would learn to look at it as more than a silly hobby that's not worth bothering about.

Of course, I don't know your parents - so it may be an idea that would never work, but it was something that worked well for me a few times growing up

Make sure that when they read it you're there though, and ready to have a serious discussion afterwards.
