yea^^
hmm now I need an idea - I first thought of kind of a swamp dragon, but with AB and WoG there are imo enaugh dragons, and besides, the hydra is kinda dragonlike (and fortress ned not follow mainstream  )
Do you have any spontaneous ideas?

a carnivorous plant
this is the first thing i thought. but it will be hard to animate i think. hope you can do it. i will think about something else too.

hmm not that bad idea
Maybe it could be movementless (roots) and ranged.
But a cool anymation would be having it crawls with many roots flumbehumring^^ on the ground, carrying it slowly forward^^
how coulkd it attack? if meele, it would definitely have this eating ability (would do same as deathstare, does it?). And if ranged... hmm, maybe it could spit sth like waspwarts... a poisoness attack.. hmm the bite-and-eat thing is better.
Maybe as addition to another unit, that then is shooting and the plant acts like the guards for santa gremlin, but can attack with eating spec^^
hmmm its worth some thinking, thx for inspiration

it would be great if you really do it in a year. then we can include it as second commander for fortress or as a unit.
it will definitely have no melee penalty if shooter. perhaps it will attack(melee) with its roots like whips and will have the same effect as death stare and no retaliation. when ranged it will throw poisonous darts which will have 80% chance to poison(like wyvern) LOL LOL LOOL this really turned out to be a good idea after all

The most(all?) wog-mosnters had sth as base-creature to "improve" on. What to take for this? party of dendroid maybe?

this is the problem. dendroid is the closest creature so you should start with it. but to make things easier make it non-moving creature. it will shoot and engage in melee only if adjacent to the enemy. this reminds me it has to have unlimited ammo and imune to forgetfullness
