Quote: There's a trading card game called Magic: The Gathering, and there is a card called Nightmare, which is exactly like the Chaos unit of the same name.
do you know any computer based game based on Magic: the gathering? i played it once in the train while travelling home from one olympiad in informathics with 3 other ppl and this is the BEST game i ever played. but regretfully i couldn't find anyone with desire to play it(and i have no cards either ) so i was looking for a game and found one at the underdogs but i made a mistake and now i am enemy of teh site and i can't dl
i just bought a game called Magic the Gathering:Battlegrounds. new game, costs about 50USD. (i think). A real time game based on the card game, definately worth the money.
quoting a FAQ on the MTG:B forum:
Quote: Battlegrounds is not Magic the Gathering the collectible card game. It is a fast paced real time interpretation of the card game.
You have a 10 card deck of up to 2 colours, you have access to all of your cards all the time, and have unlimited casts.
Mana chrystals appear on the playing field at set time intervals, collecting these gives you a mana bubble. You now have 1 mana and can spend it as you wish, after spending your 1 mana it regens over time. In order to cast 2 casting cost spells you have to collect another mana chrystal.
After playing the game you will find that the vast amount of cards in MTG are not really required to make this a good game. There is a lot of variety of strategies and decks you can choose from.
I would suggest getting a demo version of the game or renting it to try it out. I think you will find it quite enjoyable. I play the card game and was also worried about the number of cards, but after trying it, I went and bought it right away, I have had tons of fun since then.
its also available on XBOX. great mp, online, lan and even 2player on the same computer!

my friend used to play this card game, (cheating like a rat) and he'd give me his spare deck and we'd be on a team (he had thousands) and wed always win by cheating the others so badly... ah those were the days.
but i never collected these cards. i have some, but no. ENOUGH OFF TOPIC!

Quote: Then we have the huge mistake about Medusas and Gorgons... Medusa was someting of a queen among the gorgons. Gorgons in the game probably come from ... the place where they worshiped bulls. I don't remember it's name.
Homm gorgons came from god knows where. There were originally three gorgons in Greek mythology. Medusa (the name of the gorgon) was one of them, the mortal one. So not basically a queen, but the loser among the three sisters.
They were ugly, with bronze wings, and stone gaze.
A nice fact is that Medusa was the mother of Pegasus. Have that in mind next time you force those Medusas into infanticide.
homm gorgon is actually Catoblepas.
Gorgons have different descriptions, but all are unusually hideous. In Greek myth, gorgon were women who had serpents instead of hair. Another version was a specific creature called a Catoblepas.
A four-legged bull-like creature with a head that is large for its body, and blood-shot eyes that always look down. (Catoblepas is Greek for "that which looks downward.) It has a "high and thick" eyelids, and a long hanging mane.
It eats poisonous plants, and if frightened, it will open its mouth and emits a "certaine sharpe and horrible breath, which infecteth, and poysoneth the air above his head."

Rocs are out of Persian/Arabian mythology.
I remember reading about them in the adventures of Sinbad. As for that thunderstrike . . . you got me.
You should start a thread for monsters that should be in the game, but aren't.
The chimera is close to the manticore, but a fire-breathing monster with a lion's head, goat's body, and a dragon's tail with deep roots in mythology should have gotten a sniff.
By the way, the manticore was supposed to shoot spikes out of their tail to neutralize pray.
I would have liked to have seen a yeti/bigfoot/sasquatch type wandering monster.
I think everyone would be on board for an H3 editor with monster creation capability. Where would you spend more time . . . creating a map, or a mythological army???

Some interesting things about elves that i didn't know until now :
Elves are the eldest race of the world and they have the highest developed civilisation. Even armies of terrible and inexorable enemies shown respect for the armies of the elves. Elves have a paleness colour of the skin and noble, beautiful lineaments. It is said that elves are immortal and not so susceptible of illness as, for example, dwarfs or the humans.
Elves developed the sorcery on a high standard but only female elves possess this skill. Every female elf is riding a unicorn which elect the elf. Belannaer is the only male elf who possess sorcery. He is always seen with his cat which has wings and is able to fly.
They were also very prepared to figth. Elves governed masterly sword, bow and spear. The weapons and armour were skilful crafted and were normally carryed forward from father to son. They were made out of "Sky Silver"(i can't remember the real name )
