You thought right. It is a flashback, or rather a series of them. They're the parts in the past tense, introduced by "I remember" and "long ago." Once the narrator starts getting confused, so do the transitions.
Final tweaks applied. This is the version I'm submitting to class.  Wish me luck.

Hi Khaelo. I guess I'm still wondering when exactly all the "affairs" happened.
Long ago or just recently. Because it's not clear enough to me to understand the transformation from the happy Jezebel in love with Robert, to the suicidal point.
Why now? Why not back when she killed the boy at the mill? I guess I'm unsure about her sudden wave of guilt. Though I realize it was triggered by seeing the glare of an elf. You get what I mean?
I think that either I'm a bad reader or I don't think there is enough cause for the sudden suicide from guilt and self-hate that there wouldn't have already been in the past.
Anyways. I guess I didn't understand some key motives somewhere.

well blizzard can have fan-fiction forums at their own website, because whatever anyone posts there is technically owned and published by Blizzard. Just one little fact you might wanna know. Like technically Val owns everything that's posted here.
