Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, today is proud to announce the signing of a development agreement with TQ Digital, a Chinese Online game developer and operator of MMO's. As part of the deal, TQ Digital will develop a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) based on the "Heroes of Might and Magic" franchise. The title is slated for release in late 2005.

"The online gaming market in Asia is booming, but to date, western products have failed to penetrate in any depth. This is principally due to differences in tastes between game players in Asia and the West," said Alain Corre, Ubisoft's managing director for Europe, Middle East and Asia. "The approach to the development on this product is to blend Asian gameplay elements and a western franchise with high recognition in the Asian territories. To that end we will work closely with TQ Digital, who already have a wide experience in this area and who we know will be able to develop a great game that will please the Chinese MMO fans."

"I have always been a huge fan of the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise, and it is an honor to have the privilege to work on this project with Ubisoft," said Mr. Dejian Liu, Founder and Chief Game Architect of TQ Digital Entertainment. "As one of the top game developers in China, TQ Digital is highly committed to bring the best online gaming contents to our players, and in this case, to all the fans of the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise."

Now just how the hell could Homm become a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game ??? Legends of Might and Magic anyone..?

Sorry I cannot edit.

You might wonder why Warcraft3 graphics is drug-like rainbow, why characters look like taken from a bad comic, and you can't recognize the purpose of most buildings just by looking at them. You can recognize perhaps war mill and lumber mill, the rest of buildings is actually abstract and horror to remember at first.

Answer: to please Asians. They like it, and Blizzard is one of few companies actually successful in Asia.

I wouldn't doubt for a second that it will a sort of turn-based World of Warcraft spin-off, of course it proabubly will include monsties from HOMM, but the game will be totaly different, that is, if it even will exist.

I wouldn't mind if it would be somewhat like Diablo 2... with cooler graphics of course... Or like World of Warcraft...

As far as I can see, this is just Ubisoft milking the HOMM franchise for every penny they spent on it.

I'm sure this is not HOMM 5 they're talking about, but another game set in the HOMM world, it might even be in Erathia if they ignore the timeline.

This is a risky move, certainly. Heroes4 may be considered a fair game, but it certainly wasn't groundbreaking. In theory, it's more innovative than Heroes3. Heroes3 could be called Homm2 expansion pack if not the graphics - there aren't many structural changes. In practice, lack of support, money worship and hurry was disasterous. There was never a game in Homm serries which couldn't defend itself. Heroes5 is still unknown. Counting on success of unfinished game is risky.
Unless they hope to attract Might&Magic (rpg) players.... I admit I didn't play it.

Anyway, It's not me to worry, it's not my money after all

It's been a long time since I haven't written a line on this forum, and unfortunately there are not many things that I have missed. The players seem tired (already) of h4 and of conceiving new ideas for the next series. It's probably normal. H4 had a much smaller "life" than H3. As Borsuk described H3, this "expansion pack" has captivated the minds and souls of millions of players, while the innovative H4 did not. Most game-clubs have H3 nets, but few have H4. This is fact and no lie.
And this is probably what scares the hell out of Ubisoft right now. Their job is a tough one. People abandoned the Heroes series after the H4 failure, and Ubisoft has to restore that. There are ways and ways to do that. Probably the easiest way is to "capture" a huge pool of players such as the asian market. This is far beyond ridiculous racism. It's safe, but rather "facile". And it risks to abandon the ever fewer gamers that remained constant H players. Afterall this is cold marketing strategy and H5 will be it's victim.
I am not advising here the Ubisoft about "their game". I only hope they are interested also in the rest of us, and that they will bother to put at least some of their ideas into discussion, on boards like this one.

I'd invite you all to look at the Heroes V Overview thread, where Fabrice is answering questions.
I don't see how the game he's talking about could be an MMORPG.
I stand by my first assumption - HOMM5 will be a TBS, there will be ANOTHER game released which will be an MMORPG - hey who knows, mybe it'll be good too.

First, to answer a conational: Salut, Mithzah!
Secondly, yes, I've read the Overview thread, and it's not the TBS style that I'm afraid for, it's the Heroes style. I base my fears on the schetches released a while ago comprising several creatures, map items and even a town idea. I also know the more-than-familiar argument: a drawing is not the final character. Yes, but comparing the drawings and final appearance in H3, H4 (I don't know anything about H2 drawings) you can get the picture.

Although I agree that the Might and Magic franchise needs to reinvent itself, I really doubt that this MMORPG is a good idea.
