the manual is incorrect at several places and doesnt show what you really wanna know anyway.
And if you wanna learn strategy, this sure is the place to go

i didn't say that the manual gives you all you need to know, just some answeres to some basic questions such as asked in thss thread(until now).

why do arch magi have no melee penalty anyway?
They are supposed to be some kind of wise old alchemists who fire poisoned arrows from their flamming orbs(like gandalf in lord of the rings).
Also monks...(well i guess we stiil have the shaolin monks )

Conjuring up Monty Python, I wouldn't mind seeing those monks walk up to a unit and beat them over a head with a religious tome. Wonder where they got the monks shooting balls of light from . . . ???

quite a interesting thing i have seen the other day :
one of my friends was playing and i just watched him.At one time he went with the main hero to an altar of sacrifice because he had some spells scrolls he wanted to get rid of because there was no space left in backpack for more important artifacts.He was playing dungeon.When he reached the site he discovered he cannot change the scrolls for exp.I was very surprised of this and so i decided to see what is this all about.Upon testing i found out that castle,rampart and tower heroes can trade artifacys for exp;inferno,necro and dungeon trade creatures for exp whereas srtonghold and fortress can trade both creatures and arts for exp.
Furthermore i saw that not all the heroes receive the same amount of exp for the same art/creature.Does someone know how this actually work?

This is some old info. Should be in manual or such place, donīt know though.

About different heroes getting different experience, check to make sure they didn't have Learning.

Hi everybody! I've been reading this forum much lately and finally decided to register.
I've read that you can make those Utopias easier by bringing one-hexagon units, 4132511, and letting those dragons kill each other, but i couldn't have made it work.
So could someone explain how to do it and then also tell me if there is other formations how to reduce the number of dragons before attacking with your main?

Which means 15,000 worth of gold to recruit those heroes. Do you think I should afford that?
I mean, so early in the game, those money maybe could be spend better, and you'd still need a decent army to finish the ramaining Black and Green Dragons.

Yeah, but that topia will get you 50,000.
And not to mention I think 3 relics. 
Edit: Well, that is if you don't go *that* early.

5 blacks, 8 greens and 1 red isnt much of a deal week 2-3 if a somewhat rich map.
if you have a good build from starting week but low on cash you focus on buying out the hand to hand units, bring along some fodder and you should be ok concidering stats and hopefully spells.
and if u can catch an early tope giving 3 relics go for enemy with a full buy out army and youve won.
Problem is to get 15k of gold and enough to buy an army decent enough. but on most maps its possible since you can clear other banks during week 2-3.
rarely i play with topes and such though, IMO they bring to much of a luck factor since one tope can give you 3 great relics..or you can get a crap one... if one at all.

Ah, I finally tried to test hydra trick on 100%...but didn't work.
With 5 chaos hydras, and rest of slots filled with gnolls, golds and blacks attack gnolls, but greens and reds attack ch's, even when there's gold drags right next to them.
Tried the same in 2 blacks topia, then in 3 blacks.
Guess it might have to do with 3.2 SOD version?
EDIT: Oh yes, and when tried with 3 ch's, at start Goldies attacked them.

Neb, next time try to bring some dragonflies instead of gnolls with u. After gold and black, itīs their turn. You can cast shield on chaos and that could help..

I know it could help, but wanted to try what Xarfax said in the thread he linked to.
But dragons behaved quite differently.
Or I missed something and did something wrong.
