It has come to my attention that there has been an unacceptable amount of thoughtful, articulate discussion in the Israeli thread, a thread which should be much less friendly, much less civilized, and much less easy for me to moderate. As punishment, I have decided to award several +QPs to some of the more deserving posts. Handing out these things doesn't make me particularly happy, as it endangers my record, so in the future, let's please try to learn from this experience and go back to calling each other unflattering names. Thanks.

Friends:
There has been a lot of thread necromancy lately being practiced by some of our newer members. While in principle there is nothing wrong with resurrecting old threads - and in fact it is preferable that you post in an existing thread rather than starting a new thread on the same topic - I'd like to ask members to please try to be judicious with this kind of posting behavior. If you truly feel you have something to add to the dead discussion, by all means resurrect the topic. On the other hand, if your post is just one or two lines letting everyone know you agree with what was said eight months ago, then it's probably not a productive post.
My goal is to keep the forums readable and to keep active discussions easy to find and navigate. By resurrecting tons of dead threads, you make this goal difficult to achieve. I'm not going to delete posts or penalize people for frivolously resurrecting old threads (unless it becomes malicious or absurdly excessive). I just want to ask members to consider carefully before posting in a dormant thread whether their post really adds anything.

While some should get flood protection set to -20, because it is unbelievable that you have to scroll until page 3 to find the post you made 1 minute ago, cuz in the delay someone aims to become legendary by replying one word in every thread.

A simple link to the old thread will make it accessible for all eternity, no matter if it's sticky or not. Although I too can't see how this will improve the navigation.

New thread would have a link on the first post, so I don't see losing the thread as a problem.
It's not a huge difference in navigability, true. Only thinking that the existing thread now has 250 pages, many of which include either photos of people who aren't even here any more or photos which are broken links. Thread is over 10 years old. Might just be nice to have a fresh thread, was my thinking. I was going to just do it but figured I'd see if there was a lot of resistance to the idea.
