I'm guessing for having a well thought-out post that didn't go out of its way to insult or belittle anyone and that sparked a levelheaded, genuine debate. I honestly don't know the real reason, but I think that's as good a guess as any...

What content with regard to the topic?
Remember, the topic is an actual existing law, that is supposed to be expanded with a ban of "sex of humans with animals" (which is currently not illegal in Germany), after an effort to forbid slaughtering animals in a way against the existing laws (that is, killing them painfully) had been trumped by the religion card.
That topic is - just as the "Shooting again" topic currently - a fine example to show what the problem is with all the discussions, because sooner or later it all becomes GENERAL. Guns allowed or not, animals to be killed or not - why would we be able to decide that in an absolute way, once and for all?
However, this is the feedback topic, and I would like to know on what grounds the QP was given. What motivated the mod in question? What EXACTLY is qp-worthy, except that we all can see that the post is somehow mirroring the (debatable) opinion of the mod in question?
I have to admit that my rancour stems from the fact that in my opinion a couple of moderators here use their moderating powers in a very unfair way. I've read a lot of "crap" and "bollocks" and and so on in posts not involving the mods, and there they seem to be ok.
Address the posts of a mod in such a way, though - and suddenly you are not talking with a poster anymore, but with a mod.
I think that's at least very bad style, and things like that and very, err, biassed QPs are doing a lot to blow away every respect I might have had once.

I see QPs handed out at various times that are not worthy, in my opinion, but I'm not going to cry over it. If a -QP is given that was not deserved then I could see speaking out against it, but if somebody got a cookie without finishing his dinner that's not a big deal to me.
I suggest you let it go and concentrate on other things.

I've nothing against the QP.
I just want to know the REASON. WHY did that post get a QP.
I mean, generally a QP is given independently from the actual POSITION the poster advocates. Whether it's pro or con, it's more a formal issue. Well thought-out, good points, new angle, good summarizing and so on...

Fact is, moderation is not prepared to disclose reasons; either they don't have any sensible ones, which would be bad, or they don't want to - because they feel they don't have to or it's none of my business or they are pissed or whatever -, which is like flipping the finger, yet again.
It's not for nothing that there is this rule that judges are not supposed to preside cases they are involved in themselves, and I do think that it would make sense if a moderator couldn't moderate a thread he or she posted in, since it seems - and not for the first time - that the double function poster and moderator doesn't come without its pitfalls.
Of course I know that I could just as well save me time and effort and shut the hell up, because the result or effect would be the same, but when you don't know anymore why you made a decision in the past, sometimes being reminded of the reasons isn't so bad, which is what I can take with me, at least.

I suggest every time when a QP is about to be awarded in a topic where JJ has also posted, to consult JJ - being the established final instance of logic and everything reasonable - whether this QP should really be given to the would-be awarded post. This will drastically reduce the future size of the feedback thread.
Supposedly the same rule can be applied to the -QP policy.
Discuss.

JJ, if this was a case of favoritism then it would have happened the day I posted, not three weeks after the fact. I get the feeling that there was a decent amount of debate in this time, and that the weight of personal feelings would have sort of died down by that point. I can't pretend to know the mod's minds though, so maybe you should shoot them a personal message?

As to your "question", gnomes's post was awarded a QP primarily because it was an excellent post by my estimation AND because it was asked for in the feedback thread. Historically, I award +QPs to most specific posts which are so nominated. And regarding the ridiculous accusations or suggestions of bias, I'll point to the fact that the person to whom I believe I've awarded the most +QPs is Elodin, with whom I almost never agree, so that should take care of that.

The reason it took so long was chiefly because I was out of town for over a week. Aside from that, I don't usually like to award +QPs right away, because I like to see how a thread develops in response to a post I have in mind to award.

Come to think of it, I think you are right, and I'm just *****ing about, probably because I wasn't able in that thread to keep the discussion from philosophing about animal rights, when it's about human rights, actually.
Maybe also because I'm just pissed about myself that I entered a discussion again, against better judgement, and waste my time thinking about unimportant stuff again.

Post 7 is a 2 line post with very little substance, are you sure that you intended that for a nomination?
Though, I don't see anything special or outstanding about either post.

Also I recommend a sweep of that thread, been reading far too many posts that attack the individual rather than their argument.
Then again I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single argument left.
