Ok. So let's get to the example. Someone posts a 'noobish' thing in an otherwise non-subject thread. It is after all, in the OSM, where seriousness is normal (this doesn't mean jokes are not!). I post a serious information to clarify for that "noob" (well seriously I like to treat noobs fairly as I would like to be if I were in that situation). Then, someone tells me "SIRIOUS strikes again" or "chill out" or something. It's just meh

I agree with Ecoris. TheDeath and mvass simply post too much (not necessarily with Quote Wars) because they "attack" each other all the time (but they would do so with other members, only that others are not so stubborn to get into their wars), and a lot of misunderstandings occur. Just let it go sometimes, and not reply 100 times in a thread just because you have to "attack" everybody else who disagrees with you.

Seriously, just look at how you two "ruined" the Abortion thread

You have a very weird definition of "attack" Ash, and most times I was the most calm btw.

I know quote wars are hard to follow. How many times, seriously, are you going to keep on this? Are you living in the past? Seriously it's getting old already!

I agree quote wars are sometimes hard to follow, but I think the function "quoting a post" is very very important.

You will have the original post copied in your post, so even it it will be changed by the author, u still have the original.

If you post on a comment 3 or 4 days later, everybody knows to what point your answre is related.

Tha bad thing about quote wars sometimes is, the whole post is cutted into pieces, nearly every single sentence is quoted and an answer or a different point of view to that point is given....and so on.

The question is...is this really needed that way?
Sometimes I find it much easier to just put an "@mvassilev" on the left and write down what I have to say to him. And later I write "@The_death" and write my stuff to him. So all others can see on the first view towards whom my answer is related...and can decide to read it or not. But in quote wars, you often don't know from what
post the quote is.

And the other point The_death brought up...I have to agree aswell.
It is kinda boring to repeat "jokes" all over again. Be it "Sirious" or "k" or anything similar. The fun gets out of that pretty fast, and it becomes annoying. Not only for the one to whom this "joke" is adressed to, but also for the other members....

Asheera:
No. Never. When someone posts something that I disagree with, and I feel like discussing the subject, I will post, and debate and debate and debate. I will never falter. And I encourage others to display similar endurance. Debating must be done to exhaustion - until nothing more can be said. We ruined the abortion thread, you say? You posted just as much. And to say that we ruined the abortion thread is too much. If we did, it wasn't because we argued but because of quote wars. I'm yet to see calm debating ruin a thread. If you don't want to post, don't post. But if you post, don't be surprised to see some sort of response.

The Level of discussion

This is not provoction, this is a thought

anoter poor quality that OSM suffers is from a lowering level of discussion,IMO that drops everyday.
People IMo should think more and not post just to the point of posting,if they have no points to make, why post at all?
Here is a fewcases

At first lets talk about seraph, apperntly as he stats here:
http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=27246&pagenumber=1
Quote:
That's what I said anyway. It might work on the humans of the future with microchips.

And what he meant was:
Quote:
Never seen some SCFI stuff?I like the game Deus Ex(the first one only)

PPL get implants, midcontrolled than, and paradise would be on earth.Humans would be hive minded.

PS: sorry about my grim minded future; LOL

Yeah,i was thinking the same you just thought.
apperntly he just took a good thread made by baklava adn turned into VW metiral,i would like thouse parts delited, but not thhe threat itself.
Even though this comes in freedome of speech
Quote:
There are conspiracies, they say there is a underworld city of mindcontrolled humans leading the world.

just makes me whana hammer myself to wall Look at the level of discussin!? and thats not all,i do not talk about russia isent a supoerpower couse this is debate metirial, but i do want to talk about this guy over here

BTW young boys should not talk about such important things. You only repeat that what you heard from your parents or from TV...
(Plz mods beware on such things!)

and angelito pawned him over here
Quote:
Ever heard of "Free speech"?

and then he tried to pawn angelito back and failed epicly if i may so say
Quote:
Free speech of teenagers about "adult" themes?
Yes, heard too about wise mods so?

Not only he just said that everyone who isent 'adult' cant discuss politics becouse there 'stupid' but he also provoct angelito, and 50% of this community (the teenagers) becouse of one louzy adult?

I second what Antipaladin wrote at the top of his post. (I could quote it; it bears repeating, but since it's just a matter of scrolling, I won't).

I'll resist the temptation to chop up mvass' last post. (Yes, it is tempting, but it wouldn't look too good).
I can't figure out what you're trying to say with regard to the abortion thread. That part of the post is simply a mess:

After the last discussions about the mood and the quality of the posts in the OSM, we will handle those things more strictly now.

I would like to nominate Doomforges martial art thread for a QP. I think it's rather informative. There may not be a huge crowd participating but I think this thread is quite entertaining and informative thus I would atleast like the mods to consider it for a QP (just in case they hadn't already).

EDIT: And another thing which makes me feel all good inside is that it wasn't made for a QP's sake. I know that that shouldn't count as an argument but I personally enjoy that part very much since it unfortunately hasn't been like this often enough... atleast not for my (admittingly quite idealist) taste.

With regards to the whole "quote war" thingy - I'm not sure if I was ever really clear on what you guys were on about. I assumed that you were talking about the overuse of the quote feature - but it seems to me now that the issue is more about thread hijacking, when two people will turn an open topic into a forum for their own one vs one discussion.

Regarding that, I recently spoke to those involved, and I think it was resolved - I don't think we need to keep rehashing it unless it becomes an issue in the future. The members involved both seemed to understand why it was asked that they stop, and it doesn't seem to be happening.

The actual quote was this:

Quote:

To an extent this echoes what I've been saying about the maturity level of some posters. I personally do not believe that young people shouldn't be included in discussion - but more care has to be taken to what is said when they are involved. Its a simple fact that propaganda exists, and sometimes it takes people some maturing before they have the ability to separate what is fact from what they are being led to believe by other influences.

I would never say that they should not talk - but they should not be allowed to spread lies based on things they were told - but have never taken the time to research on their own.

Admittedly, I would not have said what he did in the manner that he did - but I don't believe it was meant to be an isult against all young posters, just against those who post things as fact when there is no real facts to be found...

I of course do not agree with is response to Angelito - it served to do nothing but further degrade the situation.

Once again, its a matter of people learning to respect each other.

The only thing that are "proof" in forums are arguments. There is no proof in a piece of text. Whether someone takes a guy that claims to be experienced as trustworthy, or "knows what he is saying", is questionable. That's what he actually implied with the "young" stuff.

But the best way would be to attack only arguments instead, rather than the poster behind. Would it be better if the member hid his/her age?

the post remains the same anyway...

You're absolutely correct in that. If he had a problem with what was said, he should have spoken out about the post - making no attack on the individual poster (s)

Its just not productive to the debate to express yourself in an aggressive condescending manner. If you think someone is misinformed, rather than just be angry at them for it - it would be much better to try to explain to them why you think that - and offer your own ideas in exchange.

But lately that seems to be too much to ask

No Seraphim, no one posts "facts". The only thing is, no one says that they have facts, unlike YOU. That's the problem. You're very well entitled to post ARGUMENTS, but do them with reasonable explanations, or a "I think" before.
