Of course it is. But what will the OSM turn into if nearly EVERY thread contains quote wars refering to a religious issue? No matter what topic was intentionally started...it always turns into a GOD discussion.
And we are really tired of this. We have many complaints of users who completely leave the OSM alone due to this behaviour.
This reminds of William in his early days (no offense William  ). He posted somehting about his beloved Titans in every thread. Be it a topic about ice cream, Ronald Reagan or Kermit...,)

JJ: There was a time when religion was disputed at every possible topic on OSM, and it never was "oh, close the topic because believers may get offended", it was a major religion bashing. All the time, everywhere.
People grew so tired of it that mods started to delete those comments and close topics, and they did a wonderful job.
we have a long thread about religion where people can discuss it, and it doesn't need to haunt other threads. The situation went out of control once, and we don't need this to happen again.
I fully support removing religious/antireligious comments out of threads that aren't really about religion.

May I ask you to stop criticizing Mytical's work wherever you can?
Threads get cleaned if it is worth to do so. This feedback thread here is of course worth the work, because it is needed for many other things and for all members. This is NOT the case in the thread "Where do we draw a line".
If you think you have valuable posts made in that thread, feel free to copy them and put them into a thread where they fit better, or create a new one.

The reason the thread was closed was because of the toxic atmosphere these arguments were causing, and because despite numerous requests, even closing down the thread temporarily before to illistrate the point, and even begging did not work. If you had a clue about how many people had expressed their dislike for the endless debate..
So I created a thread expressly for the purpose to try to make everybody's visit to the OSM a more pleasant place. I also went to various threads where offtopic had gotten outta hand and cleaned THEM, and explained that a little offtopic is fine, but it should be contained. It is not like you can not create a thread to continue ANY discussion and not derail the other threads. But no. People have to have it their way, and heck with everybody else. No matter what I did, it continued. I did not single anybody out, but of course you didn't even check did you?
I know I am probably wasting my breath. You are not forbidden to take up your 'discussion' in the threads created just for that purpose.

Please stop saying I am unwilling to discuss things. I had not posted in several weeks because I have been very busy. When I came back and checked the threads I posted responses to a number of things you had said in the thread and a couple of comments to things Mystical had said.
Now, if want to continue the discussion then make a new thread called "Are all religions equally true?" or some such thing if that is what you want to discuss. Or "What religions should parents be allowed to teach?" or whatever else you may want to discuss.

Lets recap. Did I say anywhere that people can not continue to discuss whatever they want? Nope. Just that there is a time and a place for everything.
Did I single anybody or any topic out? No again. There are other threads that I went in, cleaned, and they stayed on track after.
Can anybody make a thread to discuss anything they want? (within the CoC) Absolutely. In fact I encourage it. Please use current threads about a subject if possible, however.
Does a single topic have to enter into every discussion. No.
Are there ways around this? Absolutely. If something comes up and you want to make a relivant post BUT it will be way off topic, create a thread about it or use current threads about the topic. Use the BB code to point to the original topic. Then the original topic stays on track, and people do not shudder every time they look at a thread.

You have every right to disagree, but my reason for keeping it thus far is valid. If you and Elodin are not going to do the copy and paste you can just say so, and I will clean the thread.
Simple, really. The thread was closed to keep the peace, and I explained that the best I could. Yet that was not enough, because apparently I had so wronged you. Despite the fact that if you wanted to continue the current vein in that thread you could have by posting in the thread made for such discussions or doing as you did and creating another. Instead it was made about how a couple of people were so wronged over the closing of a thread. I am sorry, but to me that is putting self over the good of the community. It was never about you or Elodin. It was about the fact that a topic (any topic) was not only finding its way into every discussion and making the atmosphere toxic. I really like this forum and its people. I don't want people to avoid the OSM, or leave, because of a single topic's ability to enter and sometimes kill a thread.
Yet in trying to keep the peace, I myself have ended up making it even more toxic. Simply because I am trying to make this a better place where topics can be discussed in the right place and at the right time. Am I taking a hard line about this, yes. I don't want this forum to end up like some of the others.
Thing is, I never even hinted that this topic or any other could never be debated. In fact we are even now freely debating the subject. Yet I feel I am still wasting my breath and that this will change nothing.

Missed the point I think. I was not saying open another thread called "Where do we draw the line.", but copying/pasting the posts there into say "What is or is not a religion". Sorry about the confusion there.

Ok I have started to clean the thread, and will finish tonight. Still have to clean this thread to get it back on track in the right direction. Don't worry I am not going to delete it all, as feedback is feedback. Just doing a bit of trimming (mostly my posts more then anything  )
Also, some of my comments (which I have mostly removed but believe me I am not trying to avoid responsibility for them) were not very friendly either. Though apparently a few disagree (not mentioning any names ) I think the new thread will be a healthy thing for the community.
Edit : Where do we draw the line cleaned. This thread 'pruned' (The gist should still be seen).

That's the whole point. There have always been fascinating people from all over the world on here, and learning from them is more rewarding than proving them wrong. For example, I enjoy reading Binabik's posts even if I disagree with pretty much everything he says.
