Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War - May contain Spoilers.

I bought this game the 22th of October, it rocks. It's better then warcraft(except for the campaign) and the graphics are smashing. This game contains new nice details to your army. There are screenshots ahead.

There are 4 races; Space Marines, Chaos Marines, Orks, and the Eldar.
The first race i tried was the eldar, they just sounded smashing.

Here we have their best unit, the Avatar of Khaine. It's the best unit in the game, some people say it's the Squiggoth(Orks best unit) But it's just to slow.

I don't want to go all specifik on the races, but i can tell you that the Eldar are fast, Marines are overpowered, Orks are in big numbers, and Chaos.. i don't know what specific to say, but they are good.

This game has got a feature a lot of games has got, the zoom feature. But when you see it in normal size, you think that zoomed in it would look HORRID, which it doesn't, it's beautiful.(take in mind that this is in JPEG, which craps the shinyness a bit)

Chaos has also got a Ultimate Unit:

I tried to take a screen while it was just landing, which was a complete horror because i was playing online and my ally was lagging like there is no tomorrow, it it didn't work the way i wanted, but i still want to show you mr.Bloodthirster, the Daemon of Khorne the blood god.
The bloodthirster can be summon upon on of your heroes, or a Squad-Leader-Thingie. It costs a lot and takes a long time to research(you have to research it again when used). You can only have one active at a time, and the one you have in play must die before you can research it again, which is fair enough.

The Campaign: The Campaign is a big set-down, because you only get to try the Space Marines and a lot of answers are left unanswered when the game is done(Buy the game and see for yourself) but it leaves room for a nice expansion.

This game has also got another nice feature, you can choose the color for your units(just some of em). It gives a new form of freedom to the game, because you can color some units just how you like it.

All people who like RTS games, buy this game. It's simply great. (The campaign lacked somewhat)

                                                     9/10

Chris

I recently got into this game because my friend made me try it, now we play online some days after school about once or twice a week online, in a clan

RD, maybe we should play sometime?

I wouldn't say that Space Marines are overpowered (i've only played the expansion I don't know about before) but terminators are pretty damn strong, and also Assault Marines with terminators.
Gotta love dropping a force commander into someones base and orbital striking them

I would say that Eldar are the best, the base cloaking is unfair it makes it much harder to rush (need a commander to see their base) and (like my favourite technique)
And their vehilcles like wraithlords are good, and fire prisms are obviously the best tanks in the game

And I think that they should make orks stronger, they are the one team I think are too unbalanced to play. They just can't match up to the other races, although the Warboss and Looted Tanks are pretty damn cool.

And Imperial Guard aren't that strong later in the game, redeeming themselves with kasyrkins, leman russes and of course the baneblade

I like it how the Chaos can get jumping troops (raptors) so early, even though they are expensive. Especially if you use forced labour to build the Chaos Temple. And possessed marines are just awesome

The expansion's campaign is ok but I prefer to play online, it lets you play all the races in two campaigns: Order and Disorder. Order is Eldar/IG/Space Marines and Disorder is Chaos and Orks.

I love this game.

The new expansion Dark Crusade just came out.

Everyone buy it. You don't need the original to play it.

It's so cool, it brings the number of races up to 7 (as opposed to war crafts 4 and RoL's 3, BFME2's 5 i think etc), being;

DAWN OF WAR:
-Chaos Space Marines

The heretic space marines who worship demons.
Strongest Unit: Blood Thirster demon prince

-Eldar

Advanced, ancient wise race that rely on technology and psychic powers.
Strongest Unit: Avatar god

-Orks

Incredibly populous, brutally strong race with primitive technology.
Strongest Unit: Squiggoth armoured beast

-Space Marines

Superhuman race fighting for the emperor. More expensive and fewer than most races, but each unit is individually a strong and powerful weapon.
Strongest Unit: Land Raider tank

WINTER ASSAULT:
-Imperial Guard

The Imperial Guard are like humans today, and are allied with the Space Marines, but not as individually strong. They have more numbers on their side, and vehicles, and diverse weaponry, and work well as a team.

DARK CRUSADE:
-Tau Empire

The Tau are basically the good guys. They are an advanced, humanoid race which is allied with various other races to form the Tau empire. The two main ones are the normal Tau, which are blue skinned, weak humanoids who rely on speed, heavy battlesuits and advanced technology. And the Kroot, which are reptilian, dinosaur type creatures who have brute barbarian strength to compensate.
Their strongest unit is the Greater Gnarloc, a giant dinosaur type Kroot monster.

-Necrons

The DOW equivalent of undead, they are relentless killing robots with the sole intention of wiping out all life in the galaxy. They have regenerative metal frames which can gather themselves back together after death, an ability of the Necron Lord. They are slow and often few but powerful and can come back to life.
Their HQ, the Monolith, can fly and is a killing machine in itself.

Their most powerful unit is the Nightbringer, which the Necron Lord can transform into for a short time. The Nightbringer is like the grim reaper, except as tall as a skyscraper and is invincible.

the campaign is really cool.
There is basically a map with a bunch of territories on it, and each race has their own stronghold and a few territories. Your commander can lead an army to take over a nearby territory to gain more bonuses and abilities, and can buy bigger armies to carry over territories, reinforce current ones or buy new buildings etc. like in Battle For Middle Earth.
Each territory battle takes place as a RTS battle, and then goes back to the map.

You can also upgrade your commander with new weapons/armour etc.

If you take over an enemy stronghold you eliminate that race. However each stronghold is really heavily guarded and can take up to 3 hours to take over, involving special sub objectives and bonuses to make it easier and perks to make it harder, and all the more interesting, including sparring dialogue with the enemy commander.

I tried the campaign with the new race Necrons to get familiarized with them.

My monolith (Necron HQ) attacking the Ork Squiggoth in the Ork Stronghold.

My Necron Lord doing his finishing move on an Imperial Guard Commissar.

lol. Here I teleported my Necron Lord into the middle of the Ork HQ in their Stronghold, and here he is mid-transformation into the Nightbringer

This is another fight, showing the Nightbringer.

My base getting owned by Imperial Guard

Space Marines Land Raider in multiplayer.

NOTE: this is played on my laptop. the graphics are so much better on my desktop lol.

edit:
I cranked my graphics up on my laptop and to check it out I started a battle with Tau. Here's the Tau commander;

In the campaign you can then upgrade him with like 100 extra weapons

I’m looking into getting the actual figurines that you can paint and then make your own landscape. Anyone here ever done that or have recommendation where to pick some starter kits up cheap?

It's an expensive hobby.
You're not going to get it THAT cheap.

Games Workshop is the official owner of Warhammer, they have the basic price, and I'm pretty sure that other shops that sell it would either be the same price or maybe a bit more expensive...

But your best bet would be Games Workshop, because they have everything you need (most of the models, all the paints, terrain equipment, brushes, ppl who can teach you how to play) if there's one near you, but any hobby shop should be fine.

If you're starting off you can get starter kits from these shops pretty cheap, but the starter kits are  Empire and Orcs if you're collecting warhammer, and I think Space Marines if you're going for 40k, so you don't get to choose your army. But they do come with tons of basic models and that.

Or you can get a basic set for an army of your choice, kinda like a starter kit but not as many models, or manuals or anything.

I used to collect like mad with a friend in primary school. It was REALLY expensive then (for a 10 year old or w/e  i was lol) but my friend happened to be rich and have lenient parents who'd buy him so many

I collected Dwarves for Warhammer Fantasy, I still have my set in storage somewhere probably. I also got the starter kit, for fantasy and for Lord of the Rings warhammer lol, and some bits of other armies.
