Results of the Global Vote

I made a thread a few weeks ago titled "non-americans can vote!"  Poorly titled that it was, it had a link to a site that let anyone who wished cast an unofficial vote in the US election.  The results were just released, and here they are:

Quote:

Dear global voter,

You asked to receive the results of the global 2004 presidential election. Your vote was one of 113,552 votes from 191 countries (confirmed votes from countries other than the US only). The winner is John Kerry (Democrat) with 77.1% of votes.

The votes are as follows:

Candidate Votes Percentage
Bush 10221 9.0 %
Kerry 87446 77.1 %
Cobb 4347 3.8 %
Nader 7622 6.7 %
Brown 2292 2.0 %
Peroutka 345 0.3 %
Badnarik 1279 1.1 %

The results have now been released to the media. Thank you for supporting our project, and may whichever candidate you voted for win on Tuesday!

No, it’s not really interesting.  That was completely predictable.  Most Europeans are far left of center on the American spectrum, which would rule Bush out as a choice.

Look you made it onto CNN.

It is interesting that Bush had the majority of his votes come from the Middle East though.

If we are so far to the left, how come Kerry won? He's conservative by European standards...

And there are more parts in the world than just Europe and North America, is it not?

Indeed, but if the nationality was determined by IP, also US troops in the middle-east counted as locals.

Wouldn't you vote to unseat Bush, and not necessarily vote for Kerry because you like him?  I know that's what many Democrats here are doing.

The whole world only consists of Europe and North America, where did you learn your geography?
Seriously, I would be willing to bet most of those votes came from Europe and North America.

I'm pretty sure the votes didn't come from Kenya.

There were quite a few votes from Australia.  Given the recent elections there (and my imperfect knowledge of the candidates' positions), I'd be curious to know our Australian members' opinions of the GlobalVote2004 results.

Australia:
Bush: 681 (8.5%)
Kerry: 5725 (76.2%)
Other: 1103 (15.3%)
Total: 7509

I thought more Aussies would have voted for bush as Howard won our elections again a few weeks ago. But I personally voted for Kerry, just like I voted for Mark Latham (Howards main opponent) in the Aussie elections.

Why do foreigners want to vote for the American President?  Is it really that big of a deal outside of America?  I don't want to vote for the head of Germany, it's none of my buisness.

The leader of Germany can't really affect your life very much either.  The "Leader of the Free World" may have an effect on their lives.

People voted for Howard for his strong economic policies, not for his foreign policy with the US, so its not surprising that Bush didn't get many Aussie votes. Plus, the majority of Australian are against Bush's policy concerning the war in Iraq.

True.
But that's betraying your ideals; voting for someone you don't support. I can understand that other people do so, but I'd never do it (except in the more extreme cases. Hitler vs. Bush as an example. Bush'd get my vote ther, of course.)
