at woock's request" the anti-n00b slayers and egomaniacal spammers " thread

i guess i should repost my mesage here:

and i was just wondering is that all that you do around here anymore?Chit chatting, hunting your precious stars like it's no tomorrow, making fun of any new person who dares breaking into your tiny circle of so called "honorable"...characters.It's that what it's all about? You talk about spammers who invaded the community, but check out the VW to see who are the greatest ones. You brag on how many posts you have but to post:"i'll go to sleep" 20 times is a common practice around here...Dingo.You are so proud to be "respected" members of the community, but who do you get that respect from?you all give respect one to another.that's why you can't see there are others here too.I know that others noobs think the same but don't say it for fear of the repercutions. But i don't care...

as woock said maybe others want to know what i have to speak their mind in this particular issue.
so noobs here is your chance to be straightforward and tell exactly how you feel about the mods and all the others vets around here.sucking up is no longer necessary because you risk to be offtopic. And if there is still someone "honourable"around here this won't end up in the VW section by tomorrow.

Okay, so why don't you make a list of what you find so very wrong about HC. Would be nice if you provided names instead of saying "many people do this and that and blah blah blah". See, if you look closely, there aren't any more cynics here than on other discussion boards.

well i don't like:
well here are some things i don't like:
-that newcomers are treated with dissrespect. Ex:” Firstly, the question was not for you and secondly, I don't care if you are dislexic or whatever”.sounds familiar woock?
Ok i admit the guy was annoyng but still..
-that if a subject was discussed 20 times before a new guy should know all about it and couldn’t possibly have the gut to open it again.Maybe we don’t have the time to check each thread before opening a new one. I think Jebus’s ideea of an internal search is great.
-that you are all so crazy about those stars and do everything to get them including spam.you wanted names: Dingo and Red socks fan 1,2,3…. are just two „honourable” members spamming a lot
-that the yellow stars are not distributed fairly.you reward a funny guy who gives a fresh air to a thread, not a guy hwo works his head in numbers for a tactics related thread and comes out with something new

Don't expect me to give more respect to newbies than I do to long time members. The rules of that game say that only the person asked is to answer. And about the spelling thing: if Stiven or Pandora or Dingo would spell so damn bad and say "I'm dislexic" instead of trying to do something about it, then what I would tell them wouldn't be much different.

I believe that this issue has been explained quite well in another thread. Dun remember which though. And there was a search feature on this site a while ago, but it was taken down because of technical issues. You can use google to search here so why not do that eh?

You say that we're all star-crazed, while you only provide two names. Looks like huh material to me. Also, spam isn't a very effective way of getting many stars because the only place where it isn't killed on sight is the Wastelands, and people who mainly post there don't tend to have high post counts because of the rules of said subforum.

You must understand that the yellow stars aren't actually "distributed". The yellow stars depend on post count and nothing else. Or did you mean red stars?

Don't be angry with woock about grammar corrections, he has some kind of fetish about it; I suggest just ignoring him on that point...

And about the whole board, it's stars. You must realize, those people were here long enough and contributed something to the community. That's they are all honorable, legendary or so... They're here quite for a long time and I don't think they could change in some way; it's like trying to change a human person, quite hard isn't it? I suggest, that you would react softer to their replies, since your replies makes them even more opposed to you.

I think there is a difference between a simple spelling correction and being outright rude. I don't think anyone should be belittled for poor spelling here, nor should they be made to feel like their opinions hold less value because their english levels weren't satisfactory.

I do not agree that names must be named either. If a new member has a problem with how they percieve they are being treated, they should be able to express it in the manner they see fit. If someone feels that they are being treated poorly by veteran members, how can you blame them for not naming names and risking further alienation?

As of late we have seen a few complaints arise about how new members are treated, and we would be happy to listen to everyone's opinions here -- but I will caution everyone against letting this topic degrade into a flame war. It happens far too easily, and if we see that this should begin to happen penalties will be awarded.

I personally do not look too much at yellow stars, all they tell me is how long a member has been here -- or how much they like to spam I think they are helpful in that maybe you may look twice at what they say, as they have been a part of the community for a long time and know what goes on here, however I do not feel anyone's opinion is any less valid because they don't have more than 2 yellow stars.

Red stars to me a little more interesting, i will often look to member's with several red stars and read through the posts they recieved bonuses in - as I find it tells me a lot about the member's style of posting, and what I should expect from that person. I personally have never felt any inclination to give someone a QP simply because they already have so many I'd like to add to their collection though.

The way i see it maybe it will be a nice ideea to open a forum for new members only, where they can post their "nooby" questions. That way you would get rid of so many therads going offtopic. All newcommers should be able to write only in that forum for a while, and not be considered a full member yet.Mods and older members assigned by the mods  should take their turn in answering the questions issued in that forum, and only at a member's suggestion should a new guy be promoted to full member. In the meantime they can read messages from others forums and be able to quote.
About that internal search i don't think it's such a big effort to make, as a google search is booring and often inaccurate. There are alot of people with good initiative here, for instance angelito posted a detailed guide on playng online, which is great!maybe his post should be qouted in the Faq area. So maybe someone could do this internal search for the community. It will be of great help

@Dingo - sure you do, but I was talking about people whose posts are mostly located in the Wastelands. There are lots of your posts in the other forums and at least part of them is not spam

@Tigris - I don't really like that idea, although I understand why you see it as a good solution. The way I see it, putting the newbies in a "sandbox" would further alienate them. Still, if people think it's worth a shot, then I definetely won't mind.
As for the search thingy, the way it was done before it required a duplicate database for search purposes only. As you can easily imagine, it became an unnecessary burden. Implementing this feature more efficiently may require major code changes, but I wouldn't know much about this.

the whole ideea was to bring the vets and the nOObs closer to oneanother.as i said earlier a full member can invite a newcomer in as member. In the meantime they can talk more, things you don't see verry often nowdays.
For change, it will be a suplimentary job for some people, but nevertheless good for the community.
for crist sake, one day you will have to break that tight circle of yours and accept others as equals!

Oh, but you have to understand that this isn't as tight a circle as you think it is. I remember when many people here were newbies, like RSF, Asmodean, Dingo and some others. More recent ones would include Daddy. Bah, I was a newbie once too. And here's a hint: it DOES matter what kind of entrance you make.

And a question. Do you feel alienated? Do you feel you're being treated as just another n00b?

This is too much like the way the Communist Party was arranged in Soviet to my liking.
Also, it depends heavily on older members actually taking some time off to read all these n00bish questions over and over and over again; time they might be more interested in using on themselves.
Like Woock said, this will only lead to further alienation of new members, and that is not what HC needs.

As for n00bs, I still consider myself one, and I've been a member for 2 years. It's just the last 2 months that I truly has become active.

Be patient; you can't expect to be included in the "inner circles" of HC after being here for only a few months.

This may be off topic, but in a thread at Guardians Grove, where I asked what people thought of GG, many people said they came there because the atmosphere of HC is too unfriendly. I disagree with that. HC is one of the most both friendly and open forums I'm a member of (Civ fanatics is a much more unfriendly place, and Wotmania is much more intern).
Link to thread were HC was mentioned: http://www.guardiansgrove.com/showthread.php?t=1371
Most of the HC related stuff is on page 2...

No way. Noobs can go in the Wastelands and stay there. They belong in wastelands cause they post crap. Right Dingo? That's why you like Wastelands, cause it's the only place you can be King, cause face it, you could only be King of the n00bs anyway.

Don't feel bad though Dingo. You make a great Wastelands king setting great examples of how to spam. I mean if it wasn't for you, our n00bs would forget to go to bed and they wouldn't remember to Chill Out. We'd have a bunch of n00bs that stay up all night and get pissed over everything.

Dingo deserves a QP for teaching our n00bs the importance of serenity and good sleeping habits. Let's ask the n00bs. How much sleep have you been getting since coming to HC? Do you think you have remained calm?

I personally think we have a very tranquil group of members here. Our new members have all been very friendly and positive. All thanks to Dingo.
