Possible Spoilers:

Zasalamel- (SC3) new death scythe wielder
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/zasalamel/ZasalamelProfile1.jpg

Cassandra- (SC2-3) sword and shield I like her better than Sophitia
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/cassandra/CassandraProfile1.jpg

Taki- (SB-SC3) female ninja has been in every game of series
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/taki/TakiProfile1.jpg

Mitsurugi- (SB-SC3)has been in every game in the series EXCEPT the Korean version of Soul Calibur.
The reason? Koreans have a hatred for the Samarai. In the past there was a war btween Japan and Korea, that koreans will never forget. That is why the Samarai represents repression in their mind. Kinda similiar to the image that "Crusader" bring up in arab countries.
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/mitsurugi/MitsurugiProfile1.jpg

Siegfried- (SB,SC,SC3) -German swordsman and my favorite character. Stupidly replaced by Nightmare in SC2, brought back in SC3 (which is one of the reasons SC3 is 100x better than 2)
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/siegfried/SiegfriedProfile1.jpg

Nightmare (SC-SC3) -An Armored Knight that has been consumed by the soul edge. A cool character but Siegfried is better.
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur/images/profile1/182.jpg
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/nightmare/NightmareProfile1.jpg

Ivy (SC-SC3) -a "fetish" chick wielding a whip sword. not one of my favorites.

Astaroth (SC-SC3) big strong axe wielder

Voldo (SB-SC3) Outside of Faust and Zappa from Guilty Gear, has one of the wierdest movesets of all time.

Tira (SC3) new "Ring-Blade" wielder
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/tira/TiraProfile1.jpg

Kilik (SC-SC3) Was not in Soul Blade but is as popular as any of the others.
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/kilik/KilikProfile1.jpg

Xianghua (SC-SC3) ditto Kilik
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/xianghua/XianghuaProfile1.jpg

Maxi (SC-SC3) elvis
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/maxi/MaxiProfile1.jpg

Seong Mi-na (SB-SC3) long reach with blade

Yun-seong (SC2-SC3) also called Yunsung Korean Swordsman very similiar to Hwang
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/yunsung/YunsungProfile1.jpg

Talim (SC2-SC3) Wrist Blades
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/talim/TalimProfile1.jpg

Raphael (SC2-SC3) Fencer my third best character. pity he is french
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/raphael/RaphaelProfile1.jpg

Setsuka (SC3) new girl very fast and deadly conceals sword in umbrella
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/setsuka/SetsukaProfile1.jpg

Yoshimitsu (SC-SC3) similiar to his tekken counterpart

Rock (SB,SC,SC3) character got screwed like Siegfried in SC2 better with the Axe than Astaroth IMO

Sophitia (SB-SC3) famed girl w/ sword and shield

Olcadan (SC3) a new edgemaster this is a man with a snow owls head that can use all weapons.
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/olcadan/Olcadan_Profile1.jpg

Cervantes (SB-SC3) -pirate with two swords
http://www.soulcalibur3.us/soulcalibur3/characters/cervantes/CervantesProfile1.jpg

Lizardman(SC-SC3)

Abyss (SC3) unlockable boss

Hwang (SB,SC,SC3) another stupid substitution in SC2

Amy (SC3)

Li Long (SB,SC3) This was one of my favorite characters until they got rid of him (because they are idiots apparently) But finally SC3 (God Bless it) brought him back

Arthur- (SC*,SC3) This was Mitsurugi's replacement in korea. A pirate looking dude

Revenant- (SC3)

Greed- (SC3)
Miser- (SC3)
Valeria- (SC3)
Hualin- (SC3)
Lynette- (SC3)
Abelia- (SC3)
Luna- (SC3)
Girardot (SC3)
Chester (SC3)
Demuth (SC3)
Aurelia (SC3)
Strife (SC3)
Spawn (SC2) (XBOX ver. only)
Link (SC2) (GCN ver. only)
Heihachi (SC2) (PS2 ver. only)
Charade (SC2) Soul Calibur 2's version of Edgemaster. Appears in 3 but not as a character
Necrid (SC2) This is the chief reason I do not like SC2. Everyone universally hated this character (made by Todd Mcfarlane) and cause such a ruckus that he didn't make it to 3 which is the best thing Namco has ever done IMO

Berserker (SC2) cheap ripoff of Rock
Assassin (SC2) cheap ripoff of Hwang
Inferno (SC) boss
Edge Master (SC) Master of all styles
Soul Edge (SB) Boss
Seung Han Myong (SB) XTRA character.

SC3 is totally crazy lol, they changed the movelists and commands for like all the old characters. Its back to being a noob lol. The character creation/customisation system is awesome, and along with all the things there are to unlock, the possibilities seems endless

And also, is it just me or does the game seem more button-masher friendly?

My friend beat me button mashing at the arcade.  I'm standing there playing the right way and kicking his ass then he starts just hitting all the buttons all at once and hits me with two combos right in a row.  Once I got my character back up (he was playing with nightmare) he pulls off that jab move and knocks me off the edge.  That freakin sucked because I bragged to him how cool of a game it was and how good I'd gotten.
I don't like button mashers.

naw it ain't button masher friendly. It is designed for the casual gamer but if you can become good at a character you can pretty much whup.
So far the only dude who has gone back to him "roots" is Siegfried and Nightmare has a completely different moveset.

But since I don't want you guys to be busted out there I will teach you how to use Cervantes.

If you are having troublee with noobs pick Cervantes and see if the noob is hit by the 6 A+K (his new gun move) especially if the dude is about to get up. It won't work on good players.
For them:
1A and 11AA are good low moves and easy to do.
8A+B - Very nice to close the gap on your foes, hits low and mid. Launches on CH high enough to follow up with 8A+K if you time it properly.
4B+K Teleport use to escape.

214 - This is his GDR stance remember it.

if you can pull of GDR stance or iGDR (which is instant)
GDR B, B+K, 2B+K you might miss with the last hit
GDR B, 4, aB, 2 A+B does more damage

3B, 8 A+K is a great way to RO

WC(while crouching) A+B, B can fool them

4B+K can bust characters like Ivy

22B do this on a downed opponent for a laugh.

214, B, B+K, B2 'nother GDR move

BB, 4B, 6B -a safe move

3B -don't be afraid to even use this except against like sophitia and taki

here is an experts move
if you can get em' near the wall and use
44A+B, 8A+K, 8A+K, 214, B, B+K, B2
that takes 1/2 their life

but if you want to make a noob get pwned so bad he may literally never want to play against you again
236236 G+B

Remember in a game like this even noobs can win. That's just how Soul Calibur is. Once in awhile even I'll get beaten by my idiot friend and his retarded repetitive jumping moves. But because I bothered to master a few character I usually will win. Probably about 85% of the time. But even when I lost I remembered that I had done something stupid and I didn't make that mistake twice.

dkolb...

thanks for the effort, will try to clean that list up somewhat but hey, good to have them all in one place...

just a sidenote though... both Li Long's absense and the appearance of (K)Nightmare are products of alternative endings of Li Long and Sigfried in Soul Blade ...with Li Long dying (not sure if thats the one he defeats SE or not) and Siggy the boy wonder claiming SB for himself, thus being consumed by its power and whatnot

That is completely true, however I would argue by that same token that Namco has sorta an on-going joke about always kills of Maxi in the endings. However at least he always comes back the next game ("surviving somehow")

I would not called SC a casual fighting game... a seasoned pro could Ring Out you in a matter of seconds

And from what i remember, Li Long was killed by Cervantes at the very beginning, when he managed to find the Soul Edge shards for the first time.

Just a quick question:
In SC2, I have Soul Egde (Growth), but I was wondering where to find Soul Edge (Complete). I haven't found it yet and I've got almost all weapons (bought all from the strores and completed a lot of extra missions)

Compared to many other fighters it is a casual game. I don't have the time or patience to master many 2D capcom game characters because their moves are too long, too complex and too much of a pain to input. But with this I didn't spend very long learning the new characters. I was able to do it in my spare time as opposed to devoting myself to it. So what I'm saying is that if you are good you can beat a noob on this but you won't spend as much time at it as say Capcom vs. SNK2.

And Li Long was killed by Cervantes but my point is that Maxi always seems to die but he always comes back, so Namco enforces some storylines and not others.

I posted a looong time ago about not being able to do Ivy's butt kicking moves...(Calamity Symphony and Summon Suffering.) I've gotten to the point where I can do it in practice, but I'm not yet speedy enough to do it in a battle.  Mark my words, I'll get there someday before we trade in our gc. >.<
So SC3's out...what's it like?  It looks so awesome, specially that one new girl with the ring-blade...I wanna fight like that. XD

Number III

I just picked up Soulcalibur III for my PS2 and I have to admit, it is one awesome game.  I have been addicted to the Chronicles of the Sword part.  I love it.
The Character Creation mode is great as well.  I've made quite a few interesting little fighters.
