Asmodean's Music

Hey there, I just thought I'd share some of the songs my old band wrote while we were together, I'm pretty proud of them.
Let me know what you think

A million thanks to Pandora, who uploaded them for me

Is that really you?  No offence, but I'm surprised it was as good as it is.
I thought maybe Pandora was just saying that.
I'm keeping it saved on my computer if you don't mind.

Good music...

Wow...what a good mixture of elements in each song!

*The writing is well done, with catchy choruses.

*The use of an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar is a nice touch in No Guarantees.

*There is a nice flow in No Guarantees that is like story telling...peaks...valleys...fields.

*Love Declared is similar to a Canadian band's style, Bare Naked Ladies. I'll admit it's a little cheerful for my taste, but it doesn't take anything away from the fact that it could probably have been a decent single somewhere at sometime.

What did you play in the band?

P.S. "You gotta set me free"!

You guys are nice. Yes that's me singing, and I play most of the guitars that you hear.
The tune that sounds Canadian wasn't written by me it was written by our other guitarist Brian.
Unfortunately the band isn't playing together anymore, some of them got married and went domestic, and I moved to Manchester. But if I can find some decent musicians then I'll hopefully be starting a college band soon

@Wolfman - go ahead and save them, I don't mind. Let all your friends hear them too!

I'm not worried, I have full legal copywright for all the songs anyways.

@Leo Lion, glad you liked that one, it was always my favorite because I got to play a kick a** solo when we did it live (we shortened it for recording but usually the solo was about a minute and a half long - I do get carried away )

I have a few more tracks on CD that I need to extract to mp3, then I'll let you hear them.

Oh and if anyone doesn't like them, don't be afraid to post either - but I'd rather you said why you didn't like them rather that 'you suck'

Cue the next SPAM post that says: 'you suck '

A few notes...

So, Asmodean, you play the guitar and sing! That is lots of talent, buddy... I always had respect for musicians who could do both things at once and do it well.  (i.e. James Hetfield from Metallica)

Just a quick question, though: I read the "Nature or Nurture" discussion you had with Svaroq and have to ask how you felt singing about loving the ladies? You mentionned that you didn't write the song yourself, so I can understand that you were just singing it as part of the lead's duties. But, just looking to see if you wrote some of your own stuff that was about love, without being about the ladies? (a la Elton John or Melissa Ethridge)

Great stuff Asmodean! I really liked them both.

Can I ask who your guitar influences are? Being an old guy (who listens to old music) I thought I detected a subtle influence from Alvin Lee.

Was that accustic guitar a 12-string? It had a nice full sound to it.

I've hung around enough musicians to know they invite constructive criticism. The drum track on "No Guarantee" had a little of the small room accustics sound which gave it kind of a tint. I din't notice this as much on "Love Declared". (I was listening with headphones which brings out this sort of thing.)

Again great stuff.

Not too shabby. Usually I don`t listen to this kind
of music, but this realy isn`t bad at all. Especially the singing.

can anyone tell me how can i download those songs?

first song is excellent.
second song is just ok. too cheerful for my liking, and reminds me of too many other songs.
your singing is too good for an amateur band, at least compared to the instrumental section you guys have.
asmo, if you plan to play in a really famous band, i think you should be more bold experimenting and let that oldschool rock go a little. u need inovation, as so many other garage-bands which stay anonymous til the end of their neighbourhood careers. ur voice is great, tenderness and aggression combined. i like that in a voice.

i know i'm harsh. even proffessional critics are rookies for me.

My guitar influences?
Not that guy that you said, never heard of him.
Biggest influence is Slash from GnR. I learned guitar to play GnR songs, so it kinda infected my play style.
Also like the Edge from U2. That little repeating pattern you hear from the start of No Guarantees is pure Edge to me, simple repetitive and effective.

And no I didn't use a 12 string, what I did was record the acoustic track twice, directly over the first track, which is really hard to do!

@Svarog, I had heavier songs that I wrote, but it was a band decision over which ones got recorded. And to repeat, while I like the catchiness of Love Declared, I didn't write it.

In answer to Leo_lion, I'm realistic enough to know that the world's not ready enough for me to be singing about another man (unless it's a joke).
So don't worry about it and I won't
