Time, what a horrible thing to waste!

For me: I figure that a Medium map, with No Underground, would take around between 1 - 3 hours to play 1 vs 1, when you set the turns at 4 or 6 minute maximums.

OH! That brings a new point...Maximum time on turns. Some like 10 minutes & others like 2 minutes. I prefer 6 minutes, and can settle for 4, but I would not play a ToH game with 2 minutes, personally!

What part of the world are you in Solo?

you can find my MSN handle by searching arogerpsy@hotmail.com (my email )

In germany, it is 6hrs difference, so I don't understand why France would be 9 hrs??? It is 4:50 pm when I am writing this. What time is it for you?

That example you gave is the prime example we where trying to tell you. You can see how it would be unfair to get a scroll of resurrect of chain lightning or something at the beginning, yet it is unfair for you because of mage guild level 3 max. You don't have to play with those guys, others (like Leo, Jebus and me) will play you no rules.

I'd like to defend the no lvl4/5 scrolls thingy :/

It is not correct that it is a disadvantage for stronghold to have such a rule, you will have plenty of other ways of getting high level spells, like secondary and third and fourth and fifth town

Also, I'd like to add one on the medium map thing, which I personally have noticed, is the that it seems to be more luck in a medium random map than a large and xlarge one. Also, if I see that a guy have only played medium randoms, I would stamp him as a point hunter, and wouldnt play him in any cause, xlarge maps looks good on the rankings

Gl with your games

I totally agree with you here! I played a medium and my opponent got a second town early week 2. he attacked my main and won the game. Pretty boring. I share your remarks with this, I probably won't be playing random medium maps for ToH any longer.

Medium Maps...

Lord Lazy,

Thank you for your insight! I agree that Random Medium maps have more of a luck issue going for them, but I had never considered how bigger maps would give players more of an opportunity to show their mad skills!

I had also never considered the "point hunter" issue and do not consider myself one either. I have to say though, that I wouldn't frown on anyone choosing to play the majority of their ToH games on Medium maps because I'm sure most us of don't always have 4 - 6 hours to spare. Personally, I'm lucky if I can get through 3 hours of play without having my wife start crying for me to spend some "quality time" with her.

On the other hand, call me old fashionned, but I like a game with action! (P.S. I love Halo) That is why I really enjoy playing HoMM3 in multiplayer matches on a Medium Map with No Underground. Sometimes I find that when you are playing on a big map, a multiplayer game can feel like if you're simply playing against the computer. (P.S. I don't like playing the computer) At least on a smaller map you can usually see or have a few skirmishes against your opponent after a few weeks.

Ah heck, maybe I just have an Attention Deficit Disorder...what were we talking about again? LOL!

You should maybe mention that the game was won because after your main hero died, you conceded the match to your opponent... (hehe)

LL:  I agree with you that medium maps depend allot on luck...(I was beet by a noob ((worse noob than me)) and I went to explore, his town was next to mine, he slaughtered my starting hero and took my town) But I find that on the zone, players can have very lenghty turns and I just don't have the time to play an large map with them.

Solo,
7 hours aint bad, especially on a weekend.  Let me know anytime you want to set something up....  I don't like to play with the rules that you tend to see (I'm old school) and IMO the game is made that way for a reason...  If the rule doesn't exist in the game, it shouldn't exist at all......

(Conan, you didn't warn him about triple posting???  Are you slipping on us or what???)  lol

Yesterday i played against my friend from LAN, i picked up StrogHold and Dessa(Logistic), he picked up Necropolis and some dude with meteor shower...
And i got humiliated, i am not very concern about meteor shower, but the number of skellies he got

That pretty much answers it....

But!

A. You can hit and run his hero. This tactic is used to hit his hero then run away, rebuy and start over.

1) You need a hero with good spells (advanced wisdom is great) and good spell power (so hire the right one). for stats, attack and defence don't matter and 3 or 4 for knowledge is good enough.

2) You place only fast units on that hero (1 fast unit should suffice) so you get to go first in the fight and a single level 1 unit (in case your fast unit did not go first)

3) Use your best spell on his skellies. If you can, make the fight last as long as possible but don't let him die! Usually you use your magic on his skellies and retreat or surrender.

4)Then you buy your hero back in your town and start over

He wont get any skellies off of you, but he will loose some, depending on your spell power. You can also do this with more than one hero, you just need the money to rebuy them in you tavern.

B. You can make his skellies do the marathon.

Indeed! When you are fighting him, since the skellies are slow, make them run around the battle screen. Of course a real player is not dumb enough to do this, but the AI is. With a human player, casting slow in the end battle does wonders. Let him bring all his troops forward, then attack his troops while the skellies are out of range.

Hope this helps!

How to beat Necropolis?

From what I saw in another thread, the only other Town that can keep up with Necropolis is Conflux: due to their high speed, growth rate, and all around good units.

Check it out:

There's nothing really special about castle except that there units are all-around good combatants.  But I'd say with some crusades, royal griffs, champs, archangels, and maybe some marksmen they're pretty good for beginners.  Tower's really good for magic, so they might stand a chance, but so is conflux if you manage to get their grail and use the magic university.  I'm not too fond of conflux or castle anyways.  Necro is my favorite.  I depend on vamp lords and necromancy and animate dead spell.

the problem with this is that depending on who you play, hit and run with spells is not allowed....  if you play no rules then great but otherwise.....  (this going back to the list of rules that we discussed) If you're playing AI then no problem...

Well, he was playing with his buddy on LAN, not for ToH I assume and no rules because he had Necro. Without necro or all the pheonix from the conflux, you are right, H&R is not tolerated. But in this case, he had necro, so there where no rules.
